[Lowlight] Colin Murray-Boyles pulls a Ben Simmons for one of the worst plays of the season
Wasted that slick pass by Mamu
When you press “dunk” on 2k but the button gets stuck.
Actually perfect analogy
Or in fifa when you accidentally press pass instead of shoot with a wide open net
The panic press 😪
It’s like me playing EA CFB, seeing that B is wide open but my finger slips and presses Y and it’s a pick six
I coach middle school ball… definitely something I’ve seen before.
why do they do it? are they scared or they just forget?
Really depends on the kid. But most of the time I’m going to attribute it to a processing glitch of trying to be unselfish, afraid of getting blocked, trying to make the right play, etc, all happening in their brain at once.
Nothing better than getting that cleared up by your middle school coach…now that you are in NBA
awww yeah that’s true
I’ve definitely been afraid to get blocked like that before. But once I see that first defender fly by and I can see 3 of the other defenders in my line of site I’m going for the layup lmao.
Also while it seems easy cuz you are close to the basket, if you a kid, it is easier to miss that close shot depending on the angle. And the kid prob worries about missing an easy shot. CMB has no defense here tho cuz he isnt a little kid
Bad awareness of where the defenders are. He assumes he’s triple or double teamed (because both of those defenders should be doing that), but instead the defenders are frozen in no man’s land (and flying off the court).
I am not in middle school but I do stuff like this a lot because I get disoriented very easily and have a hard time knowing where I am relative to the basket. Both how close I am and which way I would have to turn.
aw I understand, I do that literally just in life lol like someone will ask me a question I’m not ready for and then I’ll like freeze but want to make sure I say the right thing but then I’m like wait did I understand the question and then I’m like oh I’m taking a really long time to respond and then I just blurt out something
Feels a little more understandable in middle school tbh. A bit of a tough angle for a left-handed layup.
When you can just dunk it in though…. yeah lol
Dude doesn’t even look at the basket
The magic bench dying lolll
Who on the bench was doing the “He stinks!” gesture? 🤣
Ironically someone who gets less minutes than the rookie.
Looks like Goga lol
I know you’re joking OP, but there’s a massive difference between doing this in a game 7 vs doing this in a random game in January.
And there’s a huge difference between a rookie doing this and a 5⁄6 year vet
All-star, all-NBA even…
He also has a thumb injury probably doesn’t wanna re aggravate it
Yeah, one actually has pressure and can scare someone. This doesn’t lmao. Hopefully he learns from this, but this is just as braindead
I think it’s important context that he’s coming back from a hand injury. It hurts to dunk he probably just hesitated.
He didn’t even have to dunk it.
He dunked like 2 or 3 times before this and each time he was grimacing hard. The last one before this he let out a very audible “FUCK” because it hurt.
Also it’s a rookie making a brain fart vs a multi year vet, I don’t think he makes this mistake again after looking at film and talking to coaches
what’s the difference that would cause someone not to dunk the ball unguarded during a game with any stakes at any level
The likelihood of brainfart vs succumbed to pressure is different.
regardless of the cause it’s inexcusable. “brainfart” and “pressure” are both excuses. If you can’t dunk the ball or recognize that you should dunk the ball while you’re standing under the basket unguarded it’s a pretty big problem
Everyone has brainfarts. It happens. But if the pressure gets to you then you’ve got a big issue that might be tough to deal with
ever seen Lebron/Chris Paul/Kevin Garnett/etc. do this?
They’ve had dumb turnovers
The difference is due to the relative level of stakes in each scenario. In a January game, this is just a lowlight that will be quickly forgotten because there’s still 40ish more games to go. A week from now this will barely be remembered, let alone discussed.
In the playoffs however, it’s do or die because your season is on the line. Every single possession carries importance, especially in a game 7. Simmons has (justifiably imo) never lived down that failed dunk because he put himself above what was best for his team. He was so scared of shooting free throws that he gave up an open dunk.
and my argument is that the stakes shouldn’t matter at all. Dunking the ball while standing under the basket unguarded should be second nature. All players can dribble the ball once unguarded or inbound the ball unguarded. All players can go up for a layup unguarded. If anything what CMB did was much much worse because the stakes were low
The difference is one dude is a rookie who’s smaller, less athletic and not a 6 year vet like Ben is making a brain fart vs the other as a featured star and much better player doing it
What does it matter that he’s a rookie or less athletic than Ben Simmons? When you get to the NBA you have played hundreds of organized basketball games in your life. You are standing under the basket unguarded and you’re 6’7”. You’re in a regular season game in the 2nd quarter. Dunk the fucking ball.
Because rookies make more mistakes or bad decisions when they have less experience vs guys who have been in the league for a long time, so I think it is fair to acknowledge it was a bad decision but also knowing players less sure of themselves or being nervous is going to be a problem with said lack of experience. Are you really going to act like players in any sport (or just people in general) are going to make more mistakes with less experience and that it’s not a factor? His role has also been more compartmentalized compared to College where he was the go.to guy on South Carolina and I can understand as well where him being asked to do more playmaking or at times pass out for 3s after drawing attention lead to him overthinking and not wanting to make a mistake and get pulled even when it looks very simple to us as spectators.
Are you really going to act like players in any sport (or just people in general) are going to make more mistakes with less experience and that it’s not a factor?
No, I’m saying experience is not a factor in this particular situation.
What experience do you need to know that the point of basketball is to score more points than the other team, and that the best possible shot that anyone can ever have is an unguarded dunk from directly beneath the rim?
Do you need to have been in the NBA for any amount of time to know that? Did he know this in college? What about high school? Junior High?
That is some bizarre ish.
“Scared money, don’t make no money” what a call in the moment.
Oof. That’s worse than i imagined
I thought it was about the first drive and thought “well that’s not so bad” but then… whoa…
Rookie brain fart
He had quite a few blunders last night but he’s been dealing with a thumb injury
He was fucking up all night from the dunker’s spot. He’s had some good games working in actions from that position though, and he just returned from injury. Coaches will point it out I’m sure.
Cut the rook some slack. He’s been such an essential rotation piece for the raps.
I will accept no CMB disrespect. If there is no one left to defend him it means I’ve died
Just a glitch.
Second hand embarrassment
YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH WITH THAT
lmao 100% a Ben Simmons
Rookie!
His hand is injured he didn’t want to dunk or shoot all game, he’s amazing though, ain’t worried about CMB.
-BBIQ
Brought to you by draft kings
If you check the Lakers page, you will see Gabe Vincent pass out of a wide-open layup and pass to LaRavia for a three that he bricked.
Mark Jones really needs to go. He’s just so fucking bad at his job.
Scared of the T-rex arms
He disrespected that Mamu pass. He must be sent to the G-League for at least one game as punishment.
I mean obviously he’s an NBA player, dunk the freaking ball, but I have a little sympathy here. Sometimes you catch at an awkward spot and sometimes you feel like you lose a little awareness of your surroundings: “oh shit, I’m not sure if their big is right behind me”.
Travel
He had a rough night, not common for him tho, onto the next one.
Looks like he didn’t realize where he was cause he didn’t even look at the basket
You can be too unselfish
He wasted another pass for an easy dunk later in the game too.
This is really rough, but CMB has been so excellent in the past month or so, so I’ll let it slide. He’s still building confidence and I’m sure he won’t be passing that kind of shit up for long.
His thumb’s been injured and got worse since Luka swiped at it. He can’t properly handle the ball and seems afraid of dunking. Shouldn’t have been playing if it’s that bad.
Love the kid but his Ben Simmons trait is scaring me.
Ben Simmons would never
Let Ben Simmons rest
6’7” and can’t dunk?
I cannot fathom not dunking that. Bro you’re an nba player haha
Eh, I don’t think so. Bane came flying in to contest that.
What about the 3 seconds after when every other player basically gave up lmao
yo delete this shit
Dude is not ready for the NBA if he blunders this. Yikes. This dude should go straight to the G.
Get ready to learn Chinese buddy
And this guy can’t be included to the trade for Sabonis
Yes, because Sabonis is awful.
CMBs potential is in his defense and playmaking.
then why trade for Sabonis? Sabonis is awful will trade for him sounds dumb
Im not the Raptors FO
A rookie having a brain fart and making a mistake ? Wow gather the pitchforks and get the guillotine. Kid works so hard and is a defensive menace but one misplay and lookout.
Dude relax it’s just a funny play
You are quite literally taking this more seriously than anybody else in the thread. It’s such a Reddit thing every thread there has to be somebody reacting to something happening more than it actually happening.
Based on their reaction I will now think he sucks
Yeah seriously. A lowlight is a lowlight. You chuckle and move on. Nobody is saying the kid isn’t good because of one play lol.
Someone’s sensitive huh
If you can’t watch this without having a chuckle that it’s def something Ben Simmons would do then you need to go outside and get some air
This is the internet. Measured takes are few and far between. Many are here to laugh
Found his girlfriend’s Reddit account lol
lol
Tbh I just like watching basketball plays even if bad. He’s not garbage and worthy of hate because of this.
