[Highlight] — Nikola Jokic makes NBA history as the first player to have 30 pt - 10 reb - 5 ast - in under 25 minutes of play.
His statlines have moved past “not since Wilt” to “first ever”
It’s the highest rung on the ladder.
To be fair to Wilt, he’s probably never played under 30 min in his career.
I thought he looked great, good game, happy vibes.
76ers fan glazing Jokic (i approve). We’ve come a long way
I’m a fan of good basketball.
Why doesn’t that surprise me..
MVP?
If he ends up qualifying, then likely yes
Nah. Shai is close enough in impact where a likely 10+ games played gap should be the deciding factor. And by “close enough” you can make a case he’s slightly ahead even in per game impact, though if I personally think he’s just a hair under. Both of their seasons are all-time great ones.
Definitely 1st team all-NBA if he qualifies though, and almost definitely top 2 in voting too, especially considering everyone else who could be in the conversation missed quite a few games too
OKC has lost the momentum of all time great team and Shai’s MVP is vulnerable. It’s absolutely still a toss up with 30 games left
I still think the voters will weigh that a lot. The only way I see Jokic winning it (besides a Shai injury) is if Denver actually surpasses OKC and get the first seed, or at worst they come very close and at least go 3-1 in the season series. But I think all of it is very unlikely even considering OKC’s relative drop in level at this moment. They are still a very good team, and Denver will miss at least Gordon for most of those games
There’s no difference between playing 65 games and 82 games though, as long as Jokic qualifies games played should not be a factor.
If you’re not playing you’re providing zero impact/value to your team. I disagree with the 65-game rule even existing because there shouldn’t be a hard cut-off, but availability is often considered heavily when it comes to the MVP debate and rightfully so.
10 extra games of MVP level impact (which is what Shai gives you) is a lot to make up for.
If he doesn’t miss 2 more games then yes. He is so clearly the best player in the league by a massive margin. He just came back from a moderately severe leg injury after weeks and didn’t miss a beat.
What a historic moment that nobody will forget
“Where were you when Jokic dropped 30?” Your kids will ask. And you will remember.
Imma just pull a date outta of a hat
That behind the back was nasty
safe to say as a lakers fan i missed watching this man dominate!
This guy definitely saw Luka’s statline at some point prior
What? No one had those statlines in under 25 minutes?
Nope, apparently not.
It’s a stupid record tho. Jokic had that stat like 80 times, but he continued to play over 25 minutes. Players usually don’t play 25 minutes. I mean yes, still impressive, but literally his average game
No, it means no player has ever recorded that stat line in a game when that player played fewer than 25 minutes in that game.
Not just a 25 minute stretch of a game.
they are saying that even if jokic has done this exact thing within playing 24 minutes or less, he has continued to play in the game because he is not often coming back from injury. a fair criticism of this specific record tbh
Yeah you’re right it’s a fair criticism.
The number 25 wouldn’t seem quite so arbitrary except they had said before the game that he would play less than 25 minutes and then that’s what he did he played less than 25 minutes and then, wow, look what he did in under 25 minutes and now I wonder who else has done that in under 25 minutes etc
Which makes it a stupid record
First game back and he’s making history
Zubacs and Harden going, “what the fuck, I thought you had him,” on the Bruce Brown 3 at 0:58 is pure comedy
After not playing for a month
A little more cherry picking please.
That’s 40+ pts involved in under 25 minutes… Unreal
I was coming here to find the postgame interview he gave where it was all “good job everyone” answers, and I find this
The league is fucked now that Watson Pickett and Spencer Jones have bloomed. Legitimately 11 deep now.
Denver front court insanely stacked now.
Can take their time getting Gordon back.
Jokic Valanciunas Spencer Watson can eat a lot of mins. Plus have cam Johnson and braun coming back soon.
With how good Spencer is can try and use Holmes and a pick swap with nnaji In a deal
Luka just had a 30 point triple double before playing 22 minutes, how is that possible? I just checked and Luka logged his 30th point at 21 minutes and 24 seconds of play time and he also had 10 rebounds and 11 assists. This title is either wrong or misleading
He is the first to do that in a game in which the player has played less than 25 minutes in that game, not just any random 25 minute stretch.
How is that an important stat
How is any stat important. Why is it important to have a triple double in a half
Because the fact that Luka tonight and whoever else who’s likely accomplished this many times didn’t sit out the rest of the game after reaching this statline doesn’t make it any more impressive
So I guess his injury wasn’t as serious as they wanted people to believe.
I mean he did have to miss 16 games…
Who is “they”?
It was all a conspiracy to get the rest of the team extra play time and build their confidence up.
