But in reality, Sabonis is a high usage player that takes a quarter of the cap but cannot be your second or first scoring option if you expect to go far in the playoffs. And he has significant defensive limitations.

In the playoffs teams just sag off him on the perimeter because he’s a reluctant shooter and in the post teams lock on to the fact he has like 2 moves. DHOs don’t work if defenses just ignore you for 40 minutes. Defensively, not much has to be said there. It’s not a guarantee he caps you as a first round exit team, but his limitations and contract mean you got a real tough needle to thread to go beyond that

It’s an effort thing. They play lazily against lottery teams and really only lock in during the 4th quarter (hence why they’re in an ungodly amount of clutch games)

On one hand that might not be an issue during the playoffs due to the importance of each games, on the other they might not make the playoffs due to losing too many close games
