Pretty nice moment there. Aguirre’s acquisition for Detroit probably couldn’t have worked out any better than it did. I’m of the ilk who believes the Pistons could have won with Dantley, but that time was in 1988. That ship seemed to be sailing and Mark came in and bought in, paving the way for a back-to-back championship run.

As an aside, I always kinda wished 2K could carve out a little Mark Aguirre signature set. He had a unique, Dr. J-like tendency to grapefruit palm the ball on his post moves inside.

Mark Aguirre had a lethal career with Blackman as his partner before he went to detroit. I know we are all a bit young to have watched live but I always group him, Dantley, King and English as those mid-range gods who topped the scoring charts in the 80s.

I wish there was more footage of all four of them cause they seem very interesting and a dead breed.

I mean not all humans need companionship the same way. MJ is married maybe that’s enough for him. People can be wired differently. My stepdad hasn’t had a friend in years, and really is only close with me. He’s totally content to keep it that way, he does things and is social but has no interest in really being close with anyone.

Edit: just to clarify I don’t think it’s normal and i don’t view it as a good thing either. I don’t necessarily think it’s a bad thing, it’s just how different people are.

My life has gotten better since I’ve trimmed down my friends list. got rid of all the users, negative friends, dysfunctional friends, and my life has gotten better. As you get older (I’m 40), it does get harder to make friends but in a way you enjoy the ones you have more.

I think the argument that not all humans need companionship is the kindve thing that sounds nice but when you really think about it’s like saying we don’t need Oxygen for respiration. Social interaction is the literal most important aspect of brain development for kids. There is a metric shit ton of research on how dangerous isolation is for anybody’s mental state. We are by definition social animals.

Local DFW pundit Mike Fisher told me once that Aquirre is a great guy irl, do anything for you. I attended a DePaul game when they were #1 and Aquirre put on quite a road show vs NTSU back in the day.
