Joel Embiid after last night’s win: Every time I step on the floor, I become emotional because the last 2 years have been really tough….I’m just happy finally being consistent and on the floor. I don’t take it for granted.
Im sure he’s tired of being injured. Not only for basketball reasons/goals but those injuries affect his daily life. Pretty sure he has young kids, it must be tough to not be able to play and interact with them how you always want because your rehabbing.
He gets a ton of hate around here over the years which I feel is kinda unfounded.
Unfounded?? Nah we ain’t doing this shit
Im an Embiid fan but the hate isnt unfounded.
People hated him before he even started flopping. It’s crazy
If you guys hate Embiid cause he draws fouls and flops then yall keep that same energy with the rest of the league. But I know you all won’t.
It’s not just the flopping. The dude can be reckless with other players too.
Yeah like his own teammate Danny green
I mean hate def strong word but one this dude one of the worst floppers out there and second he failed at playoffs (for his caliber) majority of the time. Again hate is strong word but he def deserve critism. Im one of those people who think Embiid one of the most unique NBA player ever had btw. Guy with that body being that agile and shotmaker just insane.
Unfounded is quite possibly the least apt word to utilize there
The guy flopped and ended Danny greens career. I don’t even like Danny green but that was his teammate. Also he scratch and sniffs his on free throws
unfounded? no way… don’t let them off the hook, I GET why people dislike him
but it definitely went WAY overboard.. you woulda thought he did something to peoples families the way he was talked about
man couldnt even say he wanted a MVP without getting sht on like its something you can just make happen
Lmao, good one man
Proof that time heals everything
Unfounded? Dude talked trash, played recklessly, threw teammates under the bus
I want Embiid healthy, for sure. The league is better when he’s playing at his best. But that’s partially because he’s a great heel
How is it unfounded
He’s one of the worst foul merchants in the league, is a massive shit talker, and plays so recklessly that it’s no wonder he’s always hurt
Bros a “troll” but can’t take any of it back?
How has Embiid himself acted in any way that he can’t take it back. It’s not like he is in charge of dan reactions
Embiid draws very weird reactions from NBA fans. It’s crazy how much people dislike guys that get hurt a lot
I’ve removed NBA discourse almost completely from my life because of it. I barely even check this sub anymore for the same reasons. Just so immature and toxic
I feel for you. Even as a non-Sixers fan, I literally get mad reading Embiid discourse. Ppl disrespect the man so much it’s crazy. He was playing some of the highest level basketball ever in his prime years, like the start of 2023 before the injury. From 3 level scoring with guard level skills and shooting at 7 ft, to great defense with rim protection and switchability, he could do it all. And yet folks act like he was a bum given a “pity MVP” (I despise when ppl say that).
That ESPN article really changed people’s opinion of him in recent times atleast. I heard the toxicity used to be bad-bad back in the day.
After he won the MVP over Jokic there was literally a hate thread about him daily lol. Multiple usually if you count all the NBA subreddits
Less than a year ago people on this sub were trying to tell me he wasn’t even a hall of famer, and that’s still not nearly as insane as the discourse around him during his peak. Shai definitely seems to have taken the mantle from Embiid in terms of guys that fans love to hate, but Embiid’s gotten hated on his entire career, I’m just glad the tides seem to finally be shifting a little bit.
No way he’s not a hall of famer. MVP, olympic gold, 7 all star and 5 all nba. Those people are stupid.
Exactly, it’s clear as day. And I was getting downvoted to hell for even suggesting it lol
It’s still bad — but yes, it was worse when he won MVP. I actually think the reason it’s less bad now, is simply bc he’s not an elite player anymore, so he’s not discussed as much.
For whatever reason, ppl could not handle Embiid being in MVP convos / in convos with Jokic / etc. a couple years back. The vitriol was out of control.
Still pretty bad, anytime he doesn’t play or move well. Check the last time they lost to your hospital team.
It was funny as hell watching that game. I’m pretty sure our starting lineup combined made less money than Tyrese/PG/Embiid individually.
Best decision you could make, I bet games are much more enjoyable now
Ehh, I’m still a Sixers fan after all.
What you don’t like losing by 50 to the fucking Hornets?
Sorry I don’t know what you’re talking about I just watched them drop 140 on the Bucks
Yeah ngl PG putting up 32 felt pretty good. I still maintain he has one of the prettiest shooting forms maybe ever.
Lmao, that’s true. But at least it stays on the court
I feel like this sub in general is more and more focused on drama, toxicity and off-court narratives
Most fun I’ve had since 2021 tbh. No real pressure, but we have things to be optimistic about; watch Maxey become a superstar, VJ being so good, Embiid being a positive player (he’s averaging almost 30⁄10 since December lol), and now McCain giving some sprinkle of life?
Embiid has one of the craziest stories to elite level super stardom in the NBA including dealing with the loss of his little brother. I will always root for this guy. Hope he can stay healthy and get a real playoff run this year.
When Marcus Hayes used his brother in an article to attack him man… Wow
People take sports hate too seriously.
I will openly shit on Embiid for his self MVP campaign and whining. That said, by all accounts he’s a really good dude.
Nothing personal, it’s just connected to basketball . I think he’s funny as hell.
He’s Jokic’s mortal enemy in the minds of many in this sub. That’s really all it takes. After that it’s just a circle jerk of parasocial hatred.
The second SGA took his place in MVP debates, SGA became the new devil of this sub
It’s so blatant
Yeah. It’s blatant. It can’t be that they are both are foul baiters that the defender can’t/couldn’t even get close to.
No it’s all hate
The embiid hate is beyond normal vitriol
We seen the playoffs. It wasnt the air hurting players, it was his flopping.
Yes because Sengun elbowing on literally every possession is getting the same hate, or Jokic literally ending the career of a morris twin, or all the bullshit he pulls in the playoffs. Someone wrote a slandering article about Embiid using the death of his little brother as part of the hate.
Jokic is a cool dude, but there’s a subsection of his fans who are completely unhinged.
Call Embiid or SGA floppers, that’s cool. But let’s not pretend they are/were amongst the best players in the league, and they were worthy mvp winners and that Jokic really should’ve won the last 7 MVPs.
Nobody was calling SGA a foul baiter until November last year when he took the lead in the MVP debate, that’s when the switch flipped. The season before that when he came second to Jokic nobody cared and it hadn’t become a talking point.
The fact that both of them are notorious for shooting lots of fts surely has no effect on that.
It must only be because they are MVP rivals of Jokic, which sounds like you are accusing people of being racist.
Both can be true. There are plenty of fans who racist and use fouls as a way to shit on Embiid and SGA to justify it. It becomes more obvious when Reaves or Doncic don’t get anywhere near the same allegations or hate.
Maybe because they aren’t frontrunners for MVP.
If you were to pull up a list of players with highest all time FTA per game, how many players on that list do you think would be frontrunners of thier MVP races?
I’ve already done this, so I’ll save you some time. All of them.
Trae Young has never been a frontrunner for MVP.
Luka was the odds on favourite for years in the pre-season for MVP. Luka was seen as the 2nd or 3rd best player in the world after getting the Mavs to the finals. That same year, he absolutely was an MVP front runner and didn’t nearly get the same hate, are you trying to act like that didn’t happen?
That didn’t happen, Luka has been getting hate for ages for yapping at the refs too much.
I swear this sub loves jokic but they don’t even watch him. Hes constantly flopping and drawing fouls. Your favorite fucking player does too no matter how much you won’t admit it.
Yup that’s exactly it and after Embiid had been hurt for so long that he couldn’t really be considered in that debate Shai took his place.
It’s normal for sports because it becomes a fiery argument between fans of that team and/or player who see his POTENTIAL vs general fans who just don’t see it because the player has not proved themselves beyond said potential to justify the hype.
Normal for sports doesn’t make it any less weird lol
as a Suns fan Jalen Green is starting to get that treatment now and Bradley Beal set the tone. By the time Suns bought out Beals contract fans absolutely hated him.
Mostly it’s just the media honestly. This is how it is with all things. Media goes from loving you to shitting on you at the flip of a switch. The moment that starts everyone piles on.
Knicks and Celtics fans are the predominate users of this sub, so it’s no wonder the reaction to him here is hostile. Knicks fans take it further than anyone tho
Him trying to injure other players doesnt help
Always gotta be that one whining ass bitch in the comments
Yeah, those no team flair bitches =)
I used to love him until he intentionally injured Mitchell Robinson during the playoffs. Dude is a dirty player who should’ve been ejected that game (should’ve had a 2nd automatic technical foul for throwing the ball away in frustration, but they’re cowards and don’t enforce their own rules on marquee players)
You respond this same way when Brunson poked hardaway in the eye last playoffs and only got a flagrant 1?
I think part of the reason is because he seems to intentionally fall all over the place endangering himself and others far more than the average player
That clearly is a ridiculous claim, people just use whatever excuse there is to back up their own biases. It’s a weakness.
I just did a quick YouTube search, none of these are normal plays to be falling to the ground on
https://youtube.com/shorts/8Y5c6D1YkHA?si=fUSZyxjvhj38Oae5
Dude singlehandedly ended his own teammates career after flopping. His name is Danny Green.
This didn’t happen.
Don’t ever question my negative Philly facts
Lol and there was 0 reason for him to dive on the ground there
Have you seen him play? It’s really not. I’ve softened a lot on Embiid and I’m glad he’s staying healthy, but he’s still a massive flopper and a dude known for reckless/dirty plays. Let’s not act like there’s 0 reason to dislike him
I love Embiids game but he’s a pretty dirty player. Likes to trip people up and flail around on the ground
Embiid has talked a lot of trash in his career for a guy that has never gotten past the second round.
He has also been one of biggest floppers in the league throughout his career.
Let’s not act like people dislike him for no reason.
Not trash talk!! The horror!!
I, a Bulls fan, cannot fathom rooting for a superstar that likes to shit talk opponents! 😤
Oh it’s not horrific at all.
It was actually hilarious to see him bust out an airplane before being sent home in a very humiliating way in playoffs.
The “weird fan reaction” is due to his own actions. Wemby doesn’t get those reactions for a reason.
Even with all that if he was from former Yugoslavia this would be the most upvoted post of the month.
I can’t qwhite figure out why lol
I love the guy, but he did have an elite “throw himself exaggeratedly hard to the ground” flop yesterday
He did it to himself.
He was bitching for years to the media that he didn’t get the same respect as Giannis and jokic and would always pretend to be a victim
he would frequently show up to the season out of shape
before he ever even played a game in the league he was shit talking on Twitter.
he was a dirty player
his foul baiting playstyle did him no favors especially when it came with a playoff decrease in production year after year
He has clearly been humbled a bit all the haters he has he did it to himself
Bitching for years? He said a couple of times he wanted the MVP, that’s it. The rest is in your head.
When Wemby does it, it’s “aww you’re so sweet”, when Embiid does it it’s “hello, human resources?!”
He was hated long before he got the dirty stamp. That happened after his MVP.
This is the one it really comes down to, and it’s valid criticism. The thing with Embiid is that he’s almost Shaq sized, but shoots 90% from the FT line, so he has an incentive to go there. The other reason people hate him is that he’s an MVP candidate and Jokic having a lot of Balkaners who are great at mobilizing.
I hope he gets a deep play off run before he has to retire, dude is too good, injuries suck
That’s my biggest wish as well. I just want to see rNBA have an aneurysm.
If this can Happen and OKC win another one and Shai wins another MVP r/NBA might full on shut down 🤣
OKC will have to avoid the Spurs.
At least he’s got that well-deserved Olympic gold medal; it’s the last time I can remember feeling genuinely proud of my country and I’ll remain grateful to him for his contribution.
I feel like I’m in a twilight zone, why are so many people being nice to Embiid all of a sudden?
Because they are human and can enjoy seeing a guy overcome obstacles and cheer for him especially when he is being vulnerable like he is in this clip.
If he goes back to flopping, and playing reckless and potentially injuring players, it will be just as human to flip back on him and remember why many people didn’t like him much.
But as of now, it’s cool seeing him bounce back and appreciate the present.
So true. Rooting for the guy.
Would be wild to see 76ers vs Clippers Finals.
The Doc Rivers matchup
This will be absolute drama! PG against his old team? Embiid vs the robot that made the most clutch game 7 shot probably ever? Doc Rivers old team but that one is meh lol
the league is better when all the stars play to their capability
i know it was only half a season and the regular season
but that season after his mvp season, that player was the best player in the league very clearly
ALL STAR HIM
I broke my ankle pretty severely. Everyday of that healing was miserable, and that knee scooter is not fun. I can’t even imagine going through that whole healing process as many times as he has.
Can’t imagine making someone else go thru it on a dirty play either.
Thank you for beating us. Need that draft pick this year
I don’t understand why your team is bad. Maybe not enough good guards?
With that being said, if you can I think you gotta reset. Trade Giannis for as many picks as possible, full fire sale.
It worked for Philly even though the league tried to sabotage it. It worked SUPER well for OKC.
Rollins and Giannis are the two players I want to keep with Turner at a maybe. Doc is a terrorist and doesn’t know how to manage the roster plus Giannis has been out most of our season and when he is there he looks checked out and depressed. If we can get a top 5 pick we might have some glimmer of hope. Really don’t want to lose Giannis but sports don’t hurt me anymore after years of Packers and Bucks losses at the worst times
I don’t know how Doc got that job after the job he did with the Sixers. I can’t believe he gets another job after this.
How he got a job even after the clippers stint where he lost 3-1 and choked every year. Literally the worst coach in the league right now and still riding off a chip almost 20 years ago
Hate embiid, but I respect him all the same. His mental toughness is underrated. To come back from devastating long injuries over and over again since he started takes a lot of toll and not all players have the mental fortitude to keep working to get back and recover over and over again. Hate him, but also would love to have him healthy. A healthy embiid is good for the nba
You can see how much playing is important for him. Honestly I’m happy for Embiid, really hope he can have some good playoff runs in the following years
Embiid gained my respect this season. Ill admit I was a hater. I 100% thought he would be happy just playing the bare min and getting his paycheck. But hes working his ass off to get in shape this year. Playing more min than anyone thought he would. 40+ min in OT games and every game besides B2B’s at this point. The guy clearly wants to be out there.
Yeah no reason you ever should have thought he would be happy playing the bare minimum. Dude has always left it all on the court his whole career through a long list of injuries. There are legit criticisms of him, but him not caring/not wanting to play has always always been utterly ridiculous
Happy to see he’s able to still play at this level, alot of the injuries the past year has been people falling on or into him so it’s not even entirely his fault.
Good to see him smiling. Hope he stays healthy!
I’m happy for him. I’ve been injured and it sucked. Some of those injuries affected my daily life.
Embiid’s injury took him away from the court and probably affected his daily life too.
Rehab is brutal. On another magnitude even, to return to NBA level of fitness.
I’m dealing with a knee injury right now, and it’s crazy how much it affects everything. I can’t kneel or crouch down, if I sit on the ground I have to be helped back up. I have a crock pot that I need to put away in a crowded bottom cabinet in my kitchen and I’m absolutely dreading it. And I’m half the size of Embiid, I can’t imagine struggling like this while being 7 feet tall and 300 pounds.
If he stays healthy, which is a big “if,” then this could be the dark horse contender in the east. This is the weakest the east has been in a few years with the last few champions of the east being hobbled. The pistons are good, but far from a lock for the finals. A few good games from role players and Philly could make some noise
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
He’s been pretty good lately. With how ass he was to start the year I thought it was looking like he might be nearing the end.
You deserved to suffer
Hadn’t stopped being emotional since the Raps sent him home in game 7!
Always weird that people hated on a third year Embiid for deeply caring about a devastating loss
Raptors fans are some of the rudest people towards Embiid, and it’s kind of ironic considering the general portrayal of Canadians being too nice. Embiid has gone through hell trying to stay healthy. You think he doesn’t want to be on the court? He finally has joy again this year, putting together his longer stretch on the floor since his MVP season.
Remember when KD got injured in the finals and they cheered? Yeah.. I don’t think they’re that nice as people thought.
They are scum bags
The fans and even the color commentator cheered when Embiid broke his orbital bone in garbage time against them in the playoffs. To be fair, they probably didn’t know he actually broke anything in the moment, but were still cheering him getting hit in the face.
He did an airplane celebration once and since then they treat him like a war criminal.
Umm, it was clearly a B52 imitation so he’s basically a war criminal for real
Still haven’t forgiven dirty ass Siakam for what he did in the playoffs to Embiid in garbage time. I know Embiid has been careless at times but he’s also been repeatedly injured by others in the playoffs.
Yeah that was annoying. Clearly intentional too
Most of the dicks are fans that support the team because they live there, not because they love basketball from what I’ve noticed. Anyone that loves the sport should be happy abt this man being healthy
No point in arguing with fans who audibly CHEERED when KD tore his achilles. Don’t let anyone convince you otherwise. One of the grossest sports moments I’ve witnessed
I’m a Raptors fan from Toronto and this is true but it’s because we have the same ppl in our country that yall do lol Canada has really good PR but people are people and you’ll find some are reasonable and some are not and most ppl who talk the most shit online are cowards no matter the country or fan base.
Y’all Sixers fans are supposed to be tough and ruthless. Is that just when dishing it out? No way a Sixers fan having class if the tables were turned and it was Joel hitting the buzzer beater. I’m not a Raptors fan or Canadian either but way to take a shot at another fan base while claiming you’re being mistreated 😂. I’m a basketball fan who doesn’t like when the biggest and strongest man on the court throws himself all over the place trying to get a foul. He would probably have less injuries if he just quit flopping everywhere.
Dude using AI to create the worst rage bait of all time
Honestly I agree with some of his points. You don’t know what it’s like to get written off as a franchise for so long and ppl just disrespect you left and right with Rudy gay and Joe Johnson and 55 year old Paul pierce in the playoffs eliminating you, and then we had the trash brothers everyone clowned on and demar, and then the fucking sixers hav u ever tried losing to a sixer it’s like you walking down the street during streettalk NYC wearing the wrong jersey they will berate you. And fuck jimmy butler fake hard working ass and fuck Joel embiid he is a bum who will never win a ring.
Grandmas basement energy
Good one, you should do improv or standup. Your timing is amazing and that reference is super fresh !
When player I like is being emotional after losing: He’s got that dawg in him, he lives and breathes basketball!
When player I don’t like is being emotional after losing: He’s so soft, little cry baby
Time and place pal
it’s really not a bad thing to cry
