This game was closer than it looked. No one but Sengun could buy a bucket that first half (Reed 0/7 from 3, yikes.) Grizzlies were great at hitting the boards and beating us in transition with our TOs.

Sengun’s scoring and Amen’s playmaking kept us afloat until KD locked in the second half and made his shots. Then the Sengun-KD two-man game couldn’t be stopped since Sengun was scoring well and Grizzlies sold out to stop him (doubling off KD is certainly an idea). Even then, he scored on the exact same spin right move to the rim so many times.

In general they seemed super focused on crowding the paint. Led to lots of easy kick outs even when they didn’t get close to the rim.

Good to see this team rely on defense to hold the opponent off until they can find their shot again. This team was super hot to start with their shooting. They need to be able to win without that given their recent shooting slump this past month or so of games. Healthy DFS and Tari help a lot. With no Adams, having our wing room back healthy is important.

That 15-17 from Sengun was insane to watch live, dude was literally unstoppable in the paint no matter what Memphis threw at him. Memphis basically had to pick their poison between letting KD cook from outside or Sengun feast down low and they couldn’t stop either

Something that immediately stands out to me besides the absolute carry job by KD and Sengun is Amen recording 14 assists! Is that a career high? Really impressive for a dude playing out of position with big shoes to fill.

Amen was actually drafted as a PG, but he is probably one of few players in this league where has no clear defined position simply because he can functionally play every role quite effectively. Although he came off the bench last season, he was the injury replacement for every player from PG to C.

He still has a long way to go as a PG, but from what Brian Windhorst himself said, Rockets consider Amen to be the most untouchable player on the roster (above Sengun and any other player). It’s also not surprising because he has really strong advance numbers, leading the Rockets in both minutes and practically leading net rating as well (only other players above him do not play many games, nor minutes).
