Alperen Sengun in Rockets’ win: 33 PTS, 9 TRB, 6 AST, 15⁄17 FGA
Senguns best game back since return from injury, trying to get these rockets into a steady groove. Him and KD combined for 66
That one sequence where Sengun kept frying Aldama and JJJ stepped up next possesion “i got this shit” and got fried with the exact same spin
That was hilarious
Seriously it was like 3-4 possessions in short succession where he just did the same spin move and got a wide open layup
You can be a one trick pony if nobody knows how to beat the one trick
(Not that Sengun is, but that sequence was hilarious lmao)
Arjen Robben approves lol
Tbh that spin is his signature move. Is there anyone in the league spinning better than Sengooner?
Spingoon
You know, actually no lol. I think the Goon might have that title for now, his footwork is one of the best in the game
it’s between him, Siakam and Randle
Dominated everyone they put on him. Grizzlies certainly didn’t help themselves by trying to have Aldama guard him one on one.
I thought they were dumb for not putting JJJ on him for so long but JJJ also turned chicken nugget.
Which is wild because JJJ is actually one of the few bigs that’s given him particular trouble in the past
Jonathan Isaac is by far the big that’s given him the most trouble, then JJJ and Wendell Carter Jr. Good to see him take it to JJJ tonight
I would say Dray-Isaac-Davis are the big 3 of Alperen stoppers with Hartenstein as an honorable mention.
AD is a good shout tbh
Dray yeah he also fits the question, I guess I was thinking more about traditionally sized bigs when I wrote it
Grant Williams as well, he defended Alpi very well last season
Wendell carter jr is also a certified jokic stopper lol
It was one of the funnier plays this season for me. The entire game he flames Aldama, then in the 4th its like he cooks him in 2-3 straight plays, and next play we see JJJ show up like here we go, and bro gets done by the same exact move. Some great comedic timing there
Grizzlies didn’t have a healthy center tonight, Santi drew the short straw.
Is JJJ playing injured?
He’s not a center and never has been.
He’s not a power forward either. He’s basically a 6’11 mediocre shooting guard.
JJJ is not a center
JJJ just isn’t very good anymore. I laughed when Zach (who had JJJ on as a guest years ago and is notoriously pro-NBA at this point in his career) claimed he’s been DPOY-level this season. Completely ridiculous.
Santi Aldama going to have nightmares about unstoppable Beyblades for the next few weeks
Embiid, you are the next. Shouldnt’ve fucked up with an injured Sengun.
More like Wemby next.
Wemby always goes crazy in a revenge game
Doesn’t mean Alpy is not gonna absolutely feast on him next game as he usually does.
Why didnt he feast him on the nba cup game in san antonio ?
He was full from all the feasting he’d done in his 45 pts & 15 rebs game against him.
Oh brother 🙄 that was two years ago and Wemby was a rookie.
He feasted on him last Tuesday lol
He did good and Wemby played terrible, but that’s not the game they were talking about.
He was so dominant that they had to resort to triple teaming him.
Which made them give Kevin fcking Durant open 3s, games like this shows you why this guy is so elite. Been in a slump recently but he is back
Eh, he’s not “so elite.” He had a great game. But his TS% this year and last have been lower than they were two seasons ago, and well below average. Meanwhile the NBA efficiency has increased the past two seasons. And I used to be a big fan of his. He just hasn’t improved offensively the past two seasons.
Well… obviously there will be a drop in efficiency from two years ago when Fred fed him with P&R spams to this year when he needs to self create most of his points without a PG. I think it’s a miracle that the fall in efficiency is limited.
I remember this guy hitting Dirk-esque flamingos at an insane clip his first two years. Shame that it feels like it’s hit or miss now :(
He’s marginally less efficient while being much better defensively, has his career high in assists by 1.5, a career high in points per game, and a career high in FGA. He’s obviously gotten better.
He’s not marginally less efficient. And he’s okay defensively. He’s not anything special. He’s basically Domantas Sabonis 2.0. Definitely not “Baby Jokic.” His turnover rate has increased proportionally with his assist rate. More FGA on worse efficiency is not improvement to me. The hopes were much higher two years ago. Let’s please try to be objective.
Sabonis wished he is as good as Sengun. Fuck outta here with that bullshit
He’s arguably not even better than Sabonis’ peak. You are underrating how efficient Sabonis’ offense was. Again, you’re talking to a dude who has long been a big Sabonis hater and was super high on Sengun. I’m just actually as objective as I can possibly be while always being willing to change my mind based on evidence. Sabonis’ offensive highs were much higher than Sengun, and his defensive lows much lower. About equal or Sabonis being better all things considered. “Fuck outta here with that bullshit” is you getting into your emotions about it. Not a cogent perspective.
Lol. Sabonis got dogwalked by the warriors in the playoffs. That didn’t happen to Sengun.
Last season 63% of Sabonis’ 2 points fgm were assisted. This was only 46,3% for Sengun. Sabonis isn’t nearly the hub Sengun is. Sabonis’ lowest assisted 2 point percentage is only 4 points lower than Sengun’s highest.
Like I said. FOH
You are far too emotional, immature, and frankly unintelligent to successfully analyze basketball players. I’m not paying any more attention to anything you say. Ever.
EDIT: To the dude who responded to me:
You have a short memory. Or maybe you weren’t even around when Sabonis was 23. He was a first-time All-Star, just like Sengun will be this season. They’re very similar players. Notice I didn’t say shit about Sabonis this year being equivalent to Sengun this year. You dudes have the worst reading comprehension and the worst critical thinking. That’s why I’m so dismissive of your replies. That trend will continue with you.
I can’t respond to you because I blocked the other idiot and Reddit doesn’t let me respond to thread chains when you’ve blocked someone from it.
Bro the inefficiency criticism is valid but Sabonis is not even in the same tier as Sengun, let alone better than him. Insane you would even mention that PRA farmer.
A lot of it sounds like just box score watching. If you really think Sengun has regressed offensively, I don’t know what to tell you.
His biggest issue in his early years was he was a traffic cone. The biggest leap he’s done has been on the defensive end of the court where he’s solidly above average.
Sabonis was and is a great player, but Sengun has way more potential, and seems to rise to the occasion.
He’s definitely not solidly above average if you ask me. The Rockets have a ton of defensive talent surrounding him. Ime Udoka is one of the best defensive coaches in the League. Yet the Rockets, despite having this great defensive personnel and great defensive coach, are not a truly elite defensive team.
Sengun needs to be protected with another center. If he was able to hold it down as just the center, and you could put spacing around him, it’d be totally different. You still have to hide him and shield help his way. And he’s just not good enough offensively for that to be worth it for a championship-level constructed team.
Rockets are a top 5 defensive team and were top 3 last season. What exactly is elite to you?
Our team has actually suffered when doing double big and we’ve strayed away from that even before Adams got injured. Our best lineups are when we start Tari Eason and Okogie, and those lineups are much better defensively.
It’s very clear you don’t actually watch games and are just comparing box score stats. Probably a Jokic fan.
Monster games totally dominated
Do you think Chet vs Alperen would make for an interesting old style boxing match from the early 1900s, say they have to follow the old style, and rules?
Which weight class?
The original eight traditional weight classes recognized in the early 1900s were:
Heavyweight: ≥175 lb (79.4 kg), later adjusted to 200 lb (90.7 kg) in 2003
Cruiserweight (then called “lighter-heavyweight” or “junior heavyweight”): 175 lb (79.4 kg) maximum
Light Heavyweight: 168–175 lb (76.2–79.4 kg)
Middleweight: 154–160 lb (69.9–72.6 kg)
Welterweight: 140–147 lb (63.5–66.7 kg)
Lightweight: 130–135 lb (59.0–61.2 kg)
Featherweight: 122–126 lb (55.3–57.2 kg)
Bantamweight: 115–118 lb (52.2–53.5 kg)
The NSC’s 1909 rules and the Walker Law’s 1920 standards became the basis for global sanctioning bodies like the WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO.
They would both be Heavyweights per this.
Unless Chet goes up to his weight, Sengun would fry him
Sengun, KD, Adams, Reed Sheppard for me are the only untouchables if Houston wants to win a ring.
every other player/asset I would trade to get Giannis.
Sengun, Giannis and KD would be the best trio in the NBA and it would make them the clear favorites.
Amen?
No way, Amen who is 22-23 won’t be traded for a 31 y/o Giannis who is basically injury prone at this point, that’s like the Clippers PG trade except if PG was older and Shai was more proven like Amen
Also all that for not even a good fit. If it was for like a star guard that can shoot but old, fine but another big who can’t shoot in this roster? I mean Amen also can’t shoot but he is at least a guard
But we’ve seen many big 3s fail in the past there’s no guarantee. Plus the spacing would be very questionable.
Big threes don’t work in the NBA anymore.
If you don’t have a deep bench you’re cooked.
They combined for 69*
They didn’t
https://www.espn.com/nba/boxscore/_/gameId/401810517
the box score had KD at 36 at the end of the game but when i updated it, it went down to 33. seems to be the cause of the confusion
Would’ve been nice
If the Rockets want to be a serious contender they should trade him while his value is high.
Otherwise this will end predictably once they’re forced to overpay him.
A Center that can’t protect the rim, needs the ball to be productive and isn’t talented enough to be an offensive hub, can’t win with one of those guys being a key part of your team.
isn’t talented enough to be an offensive hub
lol
He’s not
The fuck would a nets fan know about championship players
has top five offense and defense best player can’t protect rim or be offensive hub.
has top five offense and defense
best player can’t protect rim or be offensive hub.
Who cares about regular season noise lmao
Wait and see in the playoffs
Bro averaged 20 , 11 and 5 assists in the playoffs last year.
