Is there any real reason why he hasn’t gotten a shot for more than like 2 games per season? Not saying he’s going to make it in the league, but why wouldn’t a team sign him for a few months after the dunk contest just to sell a few jerseys. Putting in a dunker for garbage time minutes for half a season isn’t going to tank any team’s salary numbers.

I feel like the All-Star weekend shit is going to be brought up in some CBA down the line.

I would guess that owners and the league benefit the most from all-star weekend. The game essentially never matters and is never played competitively. The dunk contest is a joke. The only real draw the past few years seems to have been the 3-point contest.

I think they should take the whole weekend away and just shorten the schedule to have the playoffs immediately follow March madness.

They should just make it part of the all star game and best in-game dunk wins the title. People might actually try and defend if they want to protect their chances at winning

Castle had some great dunks last year. Maybe he should’ve dunked by grabbing the ball from someone using a bowflex whilst eating a Costco hot dog. I mean, props were what the judges and crowd liked.

One time they brought in James Flight White who wasn’t even in the NBA. He didn’t even do well lol. The dunk contest and NFL pro bowl just need to go.

I remember in the 16-17 season they put Derrick Jones Jr in the dunk contest. It was a little different as he had a roster spot with the Suns, but they kept him assigned to the D League most of the season. He did pretty good too iirc. And he’s carved out a nice place in the NBA for himself.

I think it’s a cool pathway to get guys more recognition. Mac unfortunately hasn’t stuck around when he’s gotten called up but maybe the next G League dunker will.

Have those guys do the contest with the players giving the scores. Could be fun.

He has NBA level O, but his size means he has to be a 3 and D player and he’s a turnstile on D at this level. It’s really a shame cuz he’s electric, but he just can’t hang on the other side of the ball.

He’s only good when he has the ball in his hands. At his height he needs to be an elite shooter and defender to get NBA minutes.

Ehh I use him all the time as an example of how bad the G league is comparatively.

He’s a 6’2 guard who’s not a good defender and not a good enough shooter to make up for it as a specialist and is not a good enough ball handler and playmaker to be a point guard. Really not had to understand why he can’t hold up vs NBA size physicality and talent but can be elite in the g League.

And none of those other guys were in the NBA either.

I don’t know why he isn’t even getting a roster spot just for the hype. You figure after winning the dunk contest a tanking team would sign him for the rest of the season just to cash in while people are interested. Just put him at the end of the bench and trot him out for the last 5 minutes of each game to put down 1 dunk and hype up the crowd. But nope, he’s only checked in for 9 games total over 5 years.

It just seems like easy money to put him at the end of the bench and sell merch for a few months. Not even asking him to play real minutes.

If Bronny and every other end of the bench guy are getting into 20+ games a year, why is Mac getting 2 per year?

Many of the best dunkers in the world are absolutely in the NBA, it’s just that they make too much by virtue of being the NBA to want to risk injury by being in a dunk contest or even devote the effort to it when it’s not what they’re being paid for. Make the prize the equivalent of a player’s maximum AAV and you’ll see everyone across the league clamoring to participate
