On a somewhat side note, I know people love to meme Uncle Dennis. Rightfully so for the shady dealing stuff but you gotta appreciate the bond they have. He clearly stepped into that father role for Kawhi since his dad died.
it gets a lot worse, he played a basketball game the next day and broke down crying in his mum’s arms after it was announced at the game i assume to offer condolences. something his coach asked them not to do but they did it anyway…
uncle dennis was at the game with kawhi’s mum as you know moral support and in the article i read it talks about how in the car on the way home with his mum and uncle, one of the only/the only thing (i can’t remember) that kawhi said was “my dad is dead” :( i think uncle dennis has been protecting his nephew from that moment onwards (whether he has gone about doing it in the right way is up for debate). in the articles i read about him all the sources just say he uses his relationship with kawhi to ask for some ludicrous things from the organisations…but they say so do a lot of other player’s families, it’s really just par for the course. there was one source that basically just said yeah he asks for insane shit but so do alot of other people and really all he’s risking is them saying no to whatever request, so what’s the harm in asking? like he just pushes the envelope to see what he can get lmaooo
i wanted to do a post on here about a bunch of this stuff cos i did a huge deep dive one day and if you understand more context about kawhi’s life it’s a lot easier to understand why he wanted to go back to LA instead of running it back in toronto and likely why he seems to have the personality he does. wanted to put my degree in criminology & sociology to good use to explain and highlight some of the factors and context but im also chronically ill so i still haven’t gotten around to it
