A Spurs fan makes the halfcourt shot off the shot clock to win $10,000 (with replays)! Jordan Poole and the ref are stunned
That’s a turnover but rule of cool finally wins
Fuck them rules lol
I also like that they didn’t try to fuck him out of the money by pulling out the actual rules.
That’s what they do later.
The sponsor of that shot might not pay him because it hit off the shot clock
Isn’t it usually an insurance thing? They will def get out of it if so lol
Except I believe the sponsor is the insurance company. I expect them to pay him.
You uhh…ever dealt with a insurance company?
Dealt with many, even used to sell it. This company actually provides my insurance and isn’t quite so money hungry as most. Even gives dividends to insurance holders every year.
Mind you, I’m not implying they’re perfect.

You understand you can invest in stocks in other countries too, right? In fact the first stock market was in Amsterdam to fund voyages. So stock markets aren’t even an American invention.
So maybe you aren’t too non-American. You’re just too ignorant.
They do those things for publicity… denying him that (for them) pittance of money on a technicality (as insurers usually do), would be very bad publicity.
Yeah, I think they’re smart enough to:
Tldr 10k cheap for advertising and the reputational damage given their industry would be a massive own goal. They’ll pay the man.
Arguably this is a way better result than him just banking it in, it GETS THE PEOPLE GOING.
It’s literally point 3. Just give the fan 10 grand. That’s a fucking rounding error to these massive corporations.
$10k isn’t worth bad press. They’d screw him if it was a lot but that’s a rounding error for most insurance companies.
I’d even venture to say they hope people make the shot for all the clips that get spread around and attention drawn to their brand. Worth way more than $10k.
I’m not saying they won’t pay, because they probably will, but companies do all kinds of stupid things that give them bad press over relatively small amounts of money. Just look at when the Hornets pretended to give a PS5 to a kid and then took it back after the cameras were off. That was over a $600 item.
It might depend also if it’s actually USAA self insuring the contest or if they are using a third party insurer and the money is “courtesy of USAA” because USAA bought said policy. There are companies out there that sell what they refer to as “Hole in One” policies to pay out large bonuses for rare skill contests like hitting the half court shot. You’ll see a lot of charity events have stuff like this where they are paying a few hundred dollars for a policy on a 100-1 shot so they don’t have to pay out 10k+ if someone gets lucky.
The companies that write these policies have very specific wording/ documentation requirements where I’ve seen them not pay out on a half court shot because the person’s toe was over the line. In that case the school stepped forward and paid anyway, but these contest insurers don’t really have reputations to uphold so they don’t care about bad press.
Now since USAA is a insurance company it makes logical sense that they’d just self insure, but I’m also not sure what kind of regulations or legal bullshit that might entail where it might be easier to pay another company that specializes in that sort of thing. Does the marketing/pr department at USAA really want to go back and forth with legal and underwriters when they could just purchase a “off the shelf” product from a company that specializes in it and be protected from disputes?
I still think this guy will get paid by either USAA or the team if the insurer denies the policy, to avoid bad press just think it’s weird there’s this whole third party insurance industry for this.
Here is your check for $10,000 and your bill for repairing the shot clock you damaged
Unfortunately the bill is \(12,000. So you owe \)2,000. However, if you sign up for our insurance plan, as a courtesy, we can offer you $500 off your first installment
You know that USAA is only for military vets, or families of vets, right?
And Gronks, I’ve seen the ads
Give the man hos money
HE BYET ME
Zat is how the cookie crumbles
Zeh cookie, nyet?
You sayin he a pimp?
Baller, shot clocker.
The insurance company will say that’s a no go.
They are the insurance company. This is super cheap advertising!
We could have used his shooting in the actual game.
Should cover a few weeks of groceries
The Jets would have disqualified him.
The Spurs did not earn this tonight
Send da check!
Is it me or did that ball seem really flat? Worked in his favor.
Fuck i need 10,000
Hits shot clock, no pay out. Time to start a gofundme lol
Why did they play the “Mario Died” song when he made it? Why not the successful end of the level sound if you want a random Mario sound?
Plinko’d it in
Is his name actually Holden
better than Curry
Someone needs to gently tell the woman with the mic that baggy black leather pants are not flattering.
Omg that was classic. Missed it but still go it in. That’s a miracle. ⭐️
