trump 2 is a lot different than trump 1. it wasn’t like this 2016-20, athletes were quite outspoken. probably a number of reasons why but i imagine a big part is the realization that it wasn’t a fluke and people were overwhelmingly eager to run back to this guy

I feel like it’s because it is white people being murdered and not someone that reflects majority of the league. I think if either of them were black, there would be more uproar from players for the executions. Even though black and brown people are also being snatched up.

There’s also the defeated feeling of Trump not only winning but thriving. Project 2025 being so successfully implemented and making it so much harder to fight back. And it feeling like no one can/will stop republicans as they do whatever they want to the country.

I’ve been disappointed with the NBA all season. Tail between their legs. Especially when so many players spoke up in Trump 1.0 and so little are speaking out now. Shameless.

I think after they lost the election to him again a lot of people just became apathetic. Hard to be political when you showed out for Biden and then got absolutely 0 fucking results because he wanted to be bipartisan. Because that moniker is not really accurate, they mostly only care about social causes if it’s directly relevant to them. The league is majority African American, so they spoke up on the BLM movements, since racism against African Americans affects them.

Otherwise, almost exclusively crickets outside of a few guys. Unless it affects them, they’re just like any other rich person, ain’t gonna say nothing that could mess with their money

I think that is still true, but i also think that the nba never was as woke as it seemed with BLM. If you look at a lot of players, there are a lot of guys following people like andrew tate and co. BLM was different in that regard, because it directly affected a lot of the players and their communities directly. Those circumstances and the fact that basketball isn’t a sport as deeply connected with conservative values like football made it possible, that the league took such a stand for BLM. But i don’t think that it was in any way indicative of the overall care for social issues in the league. I’m still disappointed that there aren’t more vocal players and a little surprised about the lack of statements from the usual vocal players like kyrie or jaylen brown.

people like Hali and KAT have a good head on their shoulders as well as big hearts. incredibly rare when you understand that most of these guys have coasted through all levels of education because of basketball talent and likely never developed good critical thinking skills… i’m not saying it’s an excuse but it helps me understand it. add a lot of money on top of that, its a lot easier to look away

From a German, it’s getting increasingly obvious that ICE is going to run rampant as long as someone fights back and an officer gets killed. At that point, Trump will have a reason to invoke the insurrection act and postpone elections. He’s been openly fantasizing about it for a while.

Trump is gearing up to cancel the midterm elections. He will provoke civil unrest and use it as a pretext.
