Once they think you’re on their side you’re good and everything you do is good (if sometimes distasteful)—you’ll see conservatives sometimes grouse about Trump’s classlessness but they’ll never question whether he is actually doing good. Once you’re bad everything you do is bad (no matter how obviously good)—see how conservatives talk about empathy being “toxic” lol as if it wasn’t the very thing Christian values are based on.

And to go off on a tanget about prayers… as a praying man myself, it always infuriates me when people in positions of authority/power talk about prayers. Like yes, I believe praying works, but those people can’t expect God to help if they do not try acting as well, especially since they’re the ones who have been given and willingly taken the responsibility. At least, that’s how my own personal experience goes, if I need help with something and pray, I notice God helps more when I actually try helping myself too rather than just expecting God to fix everything himself while I’m lazy. Those politicians who are all “thoughts and prayers” need to realize the same lesson.
