[Spears] Spurs say tonight’s Spurs-Pelicans game at the Frost Bank Center will be played as scheduled, tipping off at 6:00 pm CST.
be careful Spurs fans heading into the FBC
For both kinds of ICE
Whatever roads are frozen/icy from last night should be thawed well before tip-off. Also, no more precipitation expected for the next couple days.
Reading these comments as a Canadian confuses me. Do things get cancelled when theres ice on the ground?
We are usually woefully unprepared for winter weather. Very little salt, no snow plows.
Sand should work just as well to help gain traction on the roads.
I understand the underprepared stuff though, considering you probably dont see much ice/snow
They simply don’t have the trucks set up with spreader. Sure sand is easier to get, but they still don’t have a way to lay it down. The majority of the mid/southern US isn’t equipped to deal with it.
Thats insanity. They should consider a small fleet for at least the main roads which im assuming the arena would be on.
Even smaller towns here have a way of delivering sand/salt. It would only take a truck or two working the roads.
Im assuming its because they just dont get nearly enough ice/snow for this to be a viable option.
In San Antonio’s case, it snows about every 5 years. And when it does get below freezing, it’s very rare it stays below freezing during the day.
Oh damn. Okay, that makes a lot more sense lol. I cant imagine keeping trucks for a place that snows 1 time every 5 years lol
That’s why the 2021 storm was so bad. It snowed a few inches, ice led to power lines breaking, them not preparing well for such cold temperatures led to equipment failures, and it stayed below freezing for about 4 days straight. That’s a wild thing to happen in San Antonio. It’s warm enough in the winter that people grow citrus trees here.
Damn im jealous, not of the 2021 storm, but just that its warm enough to grow tropical fruit year round.
We are currently having our umpteenth snow storm and im just sitting here dreading the fact im going to have to go shovel all the damn snow soon.
On top of that, work and school wont be cancelled even though we are expected to have 40cm of snow by Monday morning.
That and it will probably melt the same day. The US climate zones very greatly from what Canada has to deal with, it would be impossible for 1000’s municipalities to equip themselves for a freak storm that may never happen.
We can’t budget an apple into a kids lunch. Let alone a fleet of plow trucks for a city that averages 65°+ year round.
Cities that rarely see bad winter weather don’t have the equipment to deal with bad weather, we have tons of overpasses that accumulate ice easily, most of the drivers have no idea how to drive on ice/snow, and at best people have all season tires.
Fair enough.
Use to live in Texas.
When there’s any level of snow/ice/cold, things shut down.
They simply do not have the resources to keep roads safe in bad winter conditions.
A lot of cities that don’t usually get this type of weather don’t have the infrastructure to deal with snow
It makes sense honestly. Not a lot of ice/snow down south, so dont really need it, but they should have some sort of way to deliver sand off trucks at least on the main roads
Texas is not a state that has infrastructure to deal with icy, snowy conditions because they almost never get that cold. That’s why they got wrecked a few years ago with the massive freeze and snowstorm, and also why it’s newsworthy for this year’s snowstorm.
The state and cities are not even slightly prepared for snow/ice, don’t have the equipment or nothing for it. Additionally, the people (read: drivers) here do not know how to handle it.
Driving in SA on a good day is still somewhat like Mad Max…add in ice/snow, a few drunk drivers (it’s a huge problem), and a bunch of irrationally confident people with no experience with winter weather driving unnecessarily big trucks without the proper tires above the speed limit and ignoring traffic lights and stop signs, you get problems!
Houston is shut down tomorrow despite the forecast being Sunny with a high of 40 F
Schools are canceled in San Antonio Monday. It’s cold. That’s about it.
Depends which part of Canada tbh, it can be just as bad. Vancouver rolls over and dies every time it snows a little bit
Even though there was some light sprinkling in the morning, the roads should be thawed by the afternoon.
Was there any indication that it wouldn’t?
Weather
Probably snowstorm related (Texas cant freaks out when they see 2 cms of snow)
Or the roads are completely iced here and it’s a risk for people to drive but okay
Don’t mind him. He can’t survive 5 minutes of heat in July
We dont get snow in the south, just sheets of ice on the roads when we get anything…
Its not even snow (in San Antonio). It rained while cold for 4 hours and everyone destroyed our local grocery stores because of it.
Very annoying.
They took all the perishable foods 😭 lol
I went to the grocery store for milk and it was all gone except the organic stuff. Why!?
COVID already proved this but we’re cooked if something deadlier breaks out because its just mass panic and no thought.
I used to think how people panicked in zombie movies was over the top. If anything its underplayed.

I hadnt heard this quote. Thanks for this.
You’re welcome. I’ve also heard three meals as well, but the original quote I first heard during the COVID lock down.
Kind of like how yall freak out and start dropping like flies when the temp hits 99 degrees when to us that’s a cool spring day. It’s infrastructure. We just aren’t built for winter weather.
do you remember how you felt the first time you ever drove on snow/ice and lost control of the car briefly? now imagine that everyone down there is experiencing that but without standardized infrastructure in place to keep the roads clean, without winter tires and everything
as always poor people are the ones disproportionately affected by this shit as well
youd be the first to bitch out about our summer heat where it regularly gets to 110°F
It’s not snow. The roads here are covered in ice about 2-3 inches thick.
It’s called the Frost Bank Center – they have to play.
It’ll be fine. Everything is thawing and it’s sunny af
Is the weather really that bad all the way down in Texas? That’s wild.
For us it is. It’s still icy outside my house ( in San Antonio)
FUCK YES
damn…
Fuck ICE
