Prior to the trade their net rating was -10.7 and after the trade which was on january 7th their net rating is -11.4 which is only just slightly worse. I think this shows the growth of the young core despite missing 2 rotation players and not having any serviceable players replacing them. Tre Johnson (15/2/3 on 38% shooting from 3) has especially been playing better as of late with him getting a career high 26 points vs the Hornets yesterday. It’s also worth mentioning that Bilal Coulibaly who is their best or 2nd best defender has been missing for the last 5 games as well. Overall the Wizards are losing like expected but it hasn’t been as bad as I thought it would be.

Trae elevates teammates and can run a game like nobody else on their roster can. He spent last year wasting a year of his prime developing Hawks young core and Dyson won MIP and JJ would have been MIP candidate if not for his injury.

Wizards now have one year of Trae running their team and developing their guys without any long term commitment. Whether they want to move forward with him as a part of their franchise or just use him for a development year can’t be determined now.

Edit: forgot to mention attendance. Next year they could start winning some games and fill some seats. Even a potential play in run would be huge for ticket sales.

I wouldn’t say this shows growth lol. It’s so early on man, we’ll likely see individual growth from a lot of guys, but as a team the wizards are going to put up some really bad games rest of the season and I don’t think it’ll necessarily make them a better team. They’ll get better by adding more talent and replacing some guys.
