Derrick Rose’s jersey is unveiled in the rafters to complete the jersey retirement ceremony.
This is all the money Reinsdorf will spend on the Bulls this year, and consequently the White Sox.
The White Sox signed Munetaka Murakami what else do you want them to do?
They’re spending a grand total of 67 million dollars and that’s less than half of what Chicago Bulls payroll is
I was trying to be sarcastic
Okay fam
MLB is in a worse situation right now
Yeah MLB needs a salary floor and cap
Pretty insane lineup of banners
The times the Bulls are good we have some pretty darn good players. Unfortunately, we’ve been bad when we dont have the GOAT and Rose
Do you think Jimmy Butler will get his jersey retired with the Bulls? Because he’s definitely getting it retired with Miami (all-star/all-NBA selections, 2 finals run, 2nd in franchise points)
Definitely not. Love Jimmy but he didnt have the accolades nor did he mean D Rose levels to the city
But he was a much better player both in peak and overall career and contributed more in wins than Rose.
Rose didn’t get his jersey retired based off number of win shares though
Which is why I don’t feel he deserved to be on the rafter. He’s just not that caliber of player.
The only reason he’s there is because he was the homegrown first draft pick that got MVP. It’s a circumstance thing. I get why he qualifies, but it’s my personal opinion he doesn’t deserve it.
But thats because you arent from Chicago. “He was the homegrown first draft pick that got MVP” is exactly the reasoning. Imo, somebody that means that much to the city deserves to have their number in the rafter. Even without a ring, Rose had such a big impact on the city. That means something
I am from Chicago. I’m literally 31st and halsted.
I genuinely don’t care for Rose. Like I said, I understand why some might feel he’s worthy, but I don’t think so.
He could have been deserving. He could have won more. He just didn’t work hard enough for it. And the “we men” stuff doesn’t help either
He worked harder then most people and players in the league. Came back from a bunch of leg injuries and went on to have a great career, and even scored 50 in a game. Im sorry you dont care for him
It’s hard to explain his importance to a team if you’re a bandwagoner.
Easy way to discredit someone else’s opinion without putting much effort, good for you.
Lakers fan from Chicago? You’re right, took 0 effort to know.
Jimmys not better than Rose was
That’s just not true. Butler’s better in almost every way.
Better shooter.
Better passer.
Better playmaker.
Better isolation player.
Better career numbers. Longer career.
Better playoff success, numbers, and performance.
Tell me, MVP aside, what else does Rose have over Jimmy? A rape case?
Explain how Jimmy had more playoff success as a Bull than Rose did, genius. We haven’t won a series since Rose was on the team
Hmm, Rose was a career 42/32/85 in the playoffs and shot under 40% during his MVP year.
Jimmy went to the finals twice and went through insane gauntlets to get there. It’s literally not a debate.
Jimmy didn’t go to the finals with the Bulls, I don’t care what he did for the Heat if the conversation is about getting their numbers retired for the Bulls
Bro just admit you didn’t watch Rose play lol it’s obvious you have no idea what you’re talking about.
I don’t think he’ll get one for the Bulls but definitely should be for Miami
Hell no
The 70s teams that Love and Sloan were on are underrated because some people act like the franchise never mattered until Jordan arrived. Those 70s teams consistently won 50+ games but just couldn’t get over the hump and had some tough game 7 losses in the playoffs.
The Lakers and Bucks just always beat them. Kinda shows the difference between a team led by an MVP-caliber player and one led by just All-stars.
I like how the bulls retire only their real franchise stars. Like, Kirk Heinrich would be up there given how many franchises would retire long tenured guys that werent all stars.
The mental fortitude that he wields to have played until ‘24 has got to be one of the most inspirational stories in sports. His career statistics will never show it, and I fear he may just be an old heads “remember him” conversation a couple decades down the line, but man was his game beautiful to watch.
That’s what I take from his struggles, he is a wonderful story of resilience.
You really can’t quantify it but this guy is basketball to a lot of us.
Probably one of the luckiest players ever to take an MVP trophy. I was raised in Chicago but I’m not sure his achievements are “rafter” worthy.
Without the colored goggles on, he was never the league’s best offensive player. Never an elite defender, playmaker, or offensive engine. He was the quickest player with an insanely beautiful layup package but never evolved his game beyond that.
After the injuries he became a 40% 3point shooter and almost sparked a knicks comeback in 2021 so yes I’d say he was a very very good player that deserves his flowers
Insane take - he was the best offensive player in the league in his MVP year and was a key cog in what also was the best defensive team in the league
Lebron was the best offesnive player 2010-11 and its not even particularly close. Rose’s TS add that year was a measly 32.3 compared to lebrons 187. Not like Rose was a great passer either. Im a chicago native in refuge from Jerry’s horrible ownership. I watched most of rose’s games. Rose was a zero on defense too, calling him a key cog in that teams defense is the true insane take. Great story but he did not deserve the MVP.
This is huge revision history/bias.
The Bulls were a middle of the pack offensive team. They were the best defensive team in the league.
Rose was not a defensive player ever. He averaged <1 steal a game and has 0 defensive merits so I don’t know how you’re even saying this.
Y’all are negative as fuck in this thread
That’s kinda the downside of how social media has progressed. Negatively has always existed, but there’s more outlets for it now. I feel like that’s why universally loved players kinda don’t exist anymore. (Unless your a role player that doesn’t get enough attention to attract the hate like Yuki or something)
Some are. Most don’t seem to be.
I think this is great. He deserves it.
So deserving. Nobody will ever match what he brought to the city
Michael Jordan….?
I mean going forward
Ben Johnson….?
Anthony Davis….?
Patrick Williams….?
Goodnight (this actually made me laugh though) lol
Josh Giddey?
For the team sure but for the city of Chicago Rose means as much as anybody and is way more beloved than Jordan is
Why though? Zach Levine was a better player and the stats back it up. All Bulls fans did was trash on Levine and talk about “Man, what if Derrick Rose, this and what if that.” Sorry you don’t hang a number over what ifs.
Jesus, one of the worst takes i have ever seen on this website. Nobody who watched both eras would ever say something like this.
Zach Levine should have pulled an Aaron Gordon and played third banana to an actual real star
Fuck ICE.
I’ve been waiting for this ceremony the entire night, I’m so glad I stayed up for it.
Rose prolonged it a bit here and there, but it’s okay, you deserve it king.
Respect
That was pretty nice. Well done by the Bulls org.
That’s my goat thank you for everything Derrick Rose 🌹
Respect to Derrick Rose. Hate injuries.
Also it will be interesting in 20 years when so many numbers are retired everyone will have to wear crazy numbers like 67.
In 20 years most teams are unlikely to retire more than one number. Teams aren’t running out any time soon.
I think the number will rise going forward. Look at a lot of the older guys. Lebron, KD, Chris Paul, Paul George, guys who could retire any season now.
lol who’s going to retire Paul George’s number?
He started in Indiana and forced his way out, they don’t like him there
And every other team he’s been to he hasn’t done much and been a mercenary
KD is in the same boat, his only chance is if the Warriors do it or if he wins with the Rockets, because the Thunder, Nets or Suns definitely aren’t
And the CP3 thing just became a disaster, I doubt that relationship with the Clippers is repaired
Do you think every team is gonna retire Chris Paul and KDs number or something?
Before this season I would’ve said that the Clippers would retire Paul’s number. And I could maybe see GSW returing KD’s. Maybe.
I don’t think the Warriors retire KD. Steph definitely, Klay probably, Draymond maybe, but I don’t think anyone likes KD enough to do it.
I don’t think KD has really endeared himself to any fanbase despite being one of the best players of all time, outside of his little fan club.
They 100% reitre both green and Klay. Those 3 were the dynasty, and are all gettung a statue together.
Yeah probably, I just wanted to show how far KD is from getting his number retired at GSW
Wizards Chris Paul banner
Clippers have enough jersey spots open for Chris Paul
Paul George isn’t getting his jersey retired anymore. Closely might be Indy, so I don’t think pacers fans think that much of him
That already happens on our team.
The 🌹 that grew from the concrete
He’ll always be a legend in Minnesota too for that 50 point game.
always loved him in Minnesota
His 50pt game is basically the biggest highlight of the pre Ant era
One season wonder. Won maps only due voter fatigue.
Dude barely averaged 20 a game.
The song at the end is 🔥
“Yeahhhh I’m 1 of 1”
Wonder if toni kukoc will get his retired
So I’m assuming Zach Levine’s number will be hanging there too since Levine’s numbers blew Rose’s away. I don’t understand this. This is blinded by nostalgia and blinded by “what ifs”. Bottom line is Rose never lived up to his potential, was there 8 years, and during his 8 year tenure barely averaged 20 a game. I don’t get this.
what has this clown achieved for the Bulls to get a jersey retired?
An imaginary ring? 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
Wasn’t good enough for a jersey retirement
all the downvotes from braindead ppl.
what has he fr done for the Bulls? an imaginary ring??? 🤡🤡🤡

How the fuck could it have been better. Always a negative mofo commenting
People out here wanting it to end with Reinsdorf getting the Mussolini treatment lmao
They missed a perfect opportunity by not dropping it as the crowd counting it down hit 1
Literally how
That man gave his everything, including his health, for y’all’s team.
