His defense made him unplayable for long stretches of time and his offense only sometimes made up for it. I love Mamu and he’ll forever have a spot in my heart but until this year he always profiled as a guy who could provide a spark on offense on the right day but wasn’t NBA level on defense

Its true, Denver really gets cooked by Mamu + many similar floor stretching guys like him. It’s probably due to the fact that Jokic and Val are too important to guarding the pain & rebounding that they often leave Mamu too open or assign a smaller player who has difficulty contesting that shot.

Eh We had a logjam in forwards when he was with us. And he’s a tweener so he wouldn’t have developed how we would need him to defensively. So we cut him to give him opportunities elsewhere. So great to see him actually flourishing and becoming a legit nba rotation guy.
