The ending was a bummer for sure but the ride during that whole season was so memorable. As it gets further in the past I look back fondly. There is a 2016 regular season steph highlight on youtube that’s 7 hours long. Just that season. Every game he did something absurd.

It’s like saying do people care about regular season MVPs, DPOY, Scoring title, All NBA, etc… if they don’t win a ring? It’s amazing achievement and requires a next level of dedication and focus to the very last game. To win it all was a very possible if we are being objective about the injuries they suffered to get this record.

Yes, of course they care, and it absolutely matters. They’re the only team ever to go 73-9 in a season. They had an amazing season. It’s unfortunate they lost in the Finals after being up 3-1, but it is what it is. They’ll always be remembered for having the best regular season record ever.

I watched the warriors make the playoffs one time over the first 15 years of my fandom. You bet I still care that we had the greatest regular season of all time. Nobody can take that regular season away. The finals loss stings but the path to get there was still special. And the fact we won 3 more after losing those finals definitely makes it sting a lot less. Getting KD shortly after those finals also made it sting a lot less lol

Plenty of teams have won a title - including that core group of Warriors with 4 Chips in 6 finals. 

Who else has gone 73-9? No one. Objectively one is harder to do than the other. 

Would have loved to win against Cleveland (again) but you know I’ll take the overall victory against Cleveland, the dynasty, and the all time wins record.

Obviously the ending sucks but I’m not sure I’ll ever have a sports experience quite like it again. I think I watched 90% of the games that season (Shoutout u/handrewbrozel for the streams back then) and it was just absurd. There were so many games they had no business winning and they’d throw out the death lineup and erase the deficit in minutes. That’s not to mention that 72-10 was seen as one of the more unbreakable records in sports, just so little room for error to break it, just can’t take any nights off. Sports is about magic and they had a whole fucking lot that season.

Something people may not know is that year the warriors had excellent health from their stars. Steph, Klay and Drey missed 6 games combined. They were a well tuned machine.

Injuries have also decimated the Pacers…..and hella other teams in the league.

Not only that, their ‘preferred starting lineup’ is still technically experimental since they didn’t have proper runtime together. It ran awkwardly and it just caused a lot of issues since it wasn’t usually done with the expectation of Dort and Dub shooting under 32% from three during that stretch. IIRC, Dort especially was really bad. The spacing was horrible and it honestly costed them a handful of quarters and even games.

Its not just the schedule. Team has constant injuries from day 1. 2 of the best 4 players have missed almosr half the games. Only 3 players have missed less than 5 games
