Bridges has been objectively worse the Grayson Allen this year. And Royce O’Neal has been one of the best shooters in the league this year. Suns would have to give up both to make the money work in the trade. It’s not worth giving up either, let alone both. It’s the opposite of peanuts. It’s a massive overpay for a guy who massively hurts our spacing and doesn’t move the needle at all.

Besides, a LOT of players don’t/won’t care because there’s still a lot of people out there who think that beating your family members is cool, and a lot of professional athletes grew up in a world where no one ever told them no. They grew up entitled, so when people around them act out in entitled ways, even when its violent and abhorrent, some of them are still going to be fine with it or identify with it.

I don’t think either the Bridges deal or the Bane deal is really viewed as a starting point for any serious teams. They’re both viewed as fairly disastrous for their teams (in Bane’s case this is more due to his poor performance this season than the trade itself, which did include compensation to entice Memphis to take KCP’s contract). If the Knicks had to do it all over again, they would almost certainly decline– the picks they shipped out could’ve easily made up a decent backbone for a Giannis deal.

If anything, I think those two deals are holding the majority of teams back from making Godfather deals this deadline season.

I’m not the biggest Bridges fan, but people forget that he was on a super team friendly contract at the time. For a team looking to avoid apron implications, a locked up quality starting player making like 16% of the cap is massively important, especially one who never misses games. This isn’t like trying to trade for Ja, who is making 25%+ of the cap while underperforming.

I don’t think he is meant to be a high volume guy, we’ve just been forced to use him that way because all of our actual high volume guys have been hurt. If he gets shipped to a team where he has a defined roll as the #3 or #4 guy on the roster, I bet he would fit into that mold really well.
