[NBA on Prime] Steve Nash kick-assist to Dirk Nowitzki for the night-night
I miss those guys being in the NBA.
These guys?
perc nowitski and steve hash
I never got to watch Nash and Dirk play together, that must have been a blast.
It was what got me back into the NBA after not paying much attention for a few years after Jordan retired the second time. The league was still full of teams that walked it up the court and dumped it into the post and then there was the Mavs running and gunning and spamming pick and roll and scoring over 100ppg which was a lot back then.
Crazy thing was they pushed the eject button on that pairing before it really got to take off.
They played together for 6 years while they were in their mid 20s. Were they supposed to get an entire decade to take off? You’re under the impression that Nash got better when he went to Phoenix when the reality is he didn’t, the circumstances changed and the Mavs needed to get better defensively to win around Dirk. Nash was almost always one of the worst defensive guards in the league as a starter and that’s the reason why Dallas and Phoenix couldn’t get over the hump
And Nash and Nowitzki fit great as a duo, but it left Steve a little shackled. Mike D’s system really went all in on Nash’s elite skills whereas Dallas’s offense was “feed Dirk.” Nash still got to lead the team as a point guard, but there were a lot of times he would become a spot up shooter after giving Dirk the ball.
In Phoenix, he would get the ball and they would run and he would find STAT. Or Matrix. Or Joe Johnson (for one year.) Or Barbosa. Or Diaw. But basically, it was rebound the ball, get it to Steve and let him cook and we will all get our points.
They were great together but they were even better apart because they both got to maximize their strengths.
I just said this in another reply lol. I think Nash is overrated and I’m a lakers fan so fuck my opinion but I did watch and somewhat enjoy the early 00s Mavs just from a basketball standpoint. You can tell people are thinking “if we take MVP Nash’s stats and put them with MVP Dirk it would be a l super team” but that’s not the reality of how any of it went. Nash’s skills as a passer with a bunch of shooters and an offensive coach that told him just go score as much as possible is what unlocked both him and Suns. That offense never exists in that NBA with a ball dominate halfcourt scorer. Also the defense really was a thing. They were both really bad at that point. Dirk got better but Nash was always bad and it was always an issue.
A Lakers fan hating on Nash? Color me shocked as shit!
I stand behind my biases but I also said nothing wrong
Yeah, if it was going to take an entire decade to get them a decent supporting cast, that’s what they should have gotten. Letting nash walk as a free agent for NOTHING IN RETURN definitely wasn’t the answer. Look at who they ran at center and off the bench. Fixing that mess was the move not saving pennies on a star PG.
Anyway, Dirk came into the league at 20 to a disaster of a team for the first lockout shortened year out of those 6 seasons. Nash was literally getting booed off the court during that first season because he was so bad at first. The franchise was completely turned around by year 6. That was when the window was OPENING not closing. Of course they were supposed to get more time. Those mavs teams were overperforming because of these two, if anything.
It wasn’t for nothing. Cubes spent that money he could have spent on Nash on the great Erick Dampier. When a guy has one semi-decent season, you gotta pay him to get him on your team.
Yeah you definitely weren’t watching the league then. Nobody was upset that Phoenix paid him near max money after watching Mike Bibby and Tony Parker wear his ass out. But you’re right there Mavs did need a better supporting cast. Part of that was getting rid of a defensive hole and Dirk not playing as soft. Again Nash didn’t get better at 30. He played with more freedom and shooters while having full control of the ball. In Dallas he didn’t have that because Finley and Dirk were good enough scorers that his job was to feed them. There was nothing Dallas could’ve done in reality to keep building around that core constantly banging its head on the second round.
I’ve been watching the league religiously since 84, and I lived in Dallas at the time. Everyone was upset. Stop making shit up.
I’m not talking about dumbass fans. As you’re showing watching doesn’t mean you know what you’re looking at buddy
Temper your expectations, they were actually sober most of the time on the court.
Dirty AND Nasty? In THIS economy?!
Who among us
These 2 really won 3 season mvps total
I miss dirk so much
sucks to see him barely being able to walk tho🥺
Dude definitely sacrificed for us most of his career. His body especially that last year mentoring Luka
he’s such a fucking legend man… Loyalty Never Fades Away….😭😭😭
Biggest legend to ever come through this city
Not Aikman, Irvin, and Smith?
Nope. Not in regards to the loyalty of the city and the team. At least in my opinion. He’s bigger than anyone here in regards to his legacy. Even if we are a football town first. Dirk is above that
Yup I couldn’t agree more and he sacrificed close to $100M in FA to stay with us while also taking pay cuts so we could be competitive, there truly won’t be another like the big German.
Dirk is straight up Dallas Royalty. They don’t rename streets for just anybody.
21 years with the same team. Brought home arguably the heaviest championship ring of all time.
He’s literally an iconic part of the NBA story. You can’t tell the history of the NBA without Dirk Nowitzki
Nah, Dirk is bigger than them
These dudes are talking nonsense. It’s an age thing. The Triplets are still revered here in Dallas. They all retired 20+ years ago and Dirk won his title 15 years ago so if you’re 20-30 you became a sports fan right after the Cowboys dynasty ended and right as Dirk started to take off
That ankle surgery he had his final season really messed with his mobility. It sucks to see
I was afraid he was gonna shatter when Nash went to that celebration.
Same. That form wasn’t his usual 😔 but at least it went in.
Taylor Rooks wearing the shit out of that outfit
Bro when is she not
She’d made a trash bag look good

Basically every NBA player she interviews, so don’t feel bad lmao.
Okay but this is adorable
Nash kicks it to Dirk
Prime got the best NBA show now easy, the post game is excellent and perfect
I was unaware that Martin Nash, former Canadian national soccer team player and current coach for Vancouver FC, had a brother. What a neat fact!
See Dirk content. Like.
See Dirk happy. I smile
[NBA on ESPN] SEE SHAQ’S OLD FAT ASS ATTEMPT A DUNK PROP BET BROUGHT TO YOU BY DRAFT KINGS KIDS REMEMBER TO TAKE YOUR OZEMPIC RINGS ZZZZZZZZZZ

Taylor Rooks could ruin any man’s life
ESPN tactically eliminated NBA on tnt crew by buying them lol
Buying them and then barely using them. Because folks just looove NBA Countdown.
lol damn Dirk with the night night
Man Amazon’s spacious set makes NBC’s look claustrophobic in comparison
Fuck me steve Nash has to be one of the most multi-talented athletes of all time.
I imagine if you put this dude on an elite ultimate frisbee team he could compete.
Do I know that he can throw a frisbee? No.
Would I bet he is elite at throwing frisbees? Yes.
Nash, among others, is the reason kids NEED to be multi-sport athletes growing up. Sure, specialize when you’re a late teen, but you pick up so many more skills playing multiple sports than just playing school basketball and then summer AAU.
Steve grew up playing hockey and soccer. He only picked up basketball in like 8th grade. But because he played other sports, he picked it up insanely quickly.
I’ve missed these guys!
“what can’t steve do?” not get hip checked robert horry
The rumor was always that Shaq stole the idea of “Shaq vs.” from Nash. I always wondered what that show with Nash would be like. Dude is a crazy athlete.
It wasn’t really a rumour, Nash hired a lawyer to consult and ended up with an executive producer credit to avoid a full lawsuit.
Chill as fuck?
It’s so great to see that this crew is exactly as awesome as we all thought they would be
It must be challenging going to work every day with Taylor Rooks. It’s, well it’s a lot.
Why does Dirk’s jumper look a lot smoother than when he was actually playing lol
A nice refresher compared to the usual from earlier seasons, just guys who are passionate about the game and know what theyre talking about.
LETS GO HOOOMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEE
New Basketfootball sport when?
Put Nowitzki’s night-night on a T-shirt.
Nash is my goat.
Has to be said that shot was much better than the pass lol
