Stephen Curry despite the loss: 38 points, 14⁄27 FG, 8⁄15 3PT, 2⁄2 FT
Stephen Curry scored 38 points on just 2 free throws despite the loss. Elite at 38, get him some help
Source: https://www.espn.com/nba/game?gameId=401810485
His best chance to get a 5th ring is to find a time machine and:
A. Go back to june 2016 and tell draymond NOT to touch lebron no matter what
B. Go back to june 2019 and tell Klay NOT to attempt any dunks
C. Go back to november 2020 and tell Klay NOT to play any offseason pickup games
D. Go back to october 2022 and tell either Draymond or Poole to skip practice
Go back in time to tell Lacob that time is linear and there can only be one timeline
And draft league ready prospects in Haliburton (2020) and Franz (2021)
Silliest thing the ownership has ever done. Steph never needed a big man superstar to win so how would drafting one help.
KD is 6’11, but not a true big man. Wagner would’ve been a good prospect since he’s of a similar formula. Kerr wanted those two and Lacob said it’s my way or the highway. I can see why he wants to retire.
People are predicting a massive drop off with the dubs when Steph retires, and rightfully so, but I’m also truly worried about Lacob with this team. He’s only used to winning, wants to spend money, and has an absolutely awful track record for the players he’s meddled with.
That combination just sounds like an owner who will get desperate to grab over the hill stars and turn this team into a perpetual mediocre shitshow
Steve Balmer says hello
Lacob & Vivek gonna have a Golden State mid-off in a few years
It was a perpetual mediocre shitshow before Steph so theyll just go back to normal.
Its kinda how the bulls were ass then got Jordan and then were ass again forever.
We’re going to turn into the Kings aren’t we
Wagner on the warriors would’ve been so fucking good.
They were never gonna pick Hali at 2
Rumors were they had offers to trade down and get a role player in exchange (some have said Wendell Carter Jr for example) but it’s unclear how true that was.
Ya. They drafted for need (Center) but I do wonder how in-person interviews would have changed things. Maybe they would have been blown away by someone else or thought Wiseman was more of a project than they realized
People like to rewrite history, but the guy was a unanimous top-3 prospect at their biggest position of need. Was basically a slam dunk. If he had played more than 3 college games, his flaws probably would’ve been more pronounced. With that size and athleticism most folks figured at worst he’d be a solid rim-runner.
As a Michigan fan who watched Franz for 2 years, I can assure you nobody saw him as a “league ready” prospect at the time. His shot was very inconsistent his whole time at UM. He was elite defensively, but was viewed as pretty raw on offense.
The Magic were clowned for “reaching” with the Wagner pick.
Tbf his shot is still very inconsistent, he’s just an amazing slasher and finisher around the basket.
Two timeline thing might have had a chance if they hadn’t drafted the biggest bust from one class and then draft Kuminga and moody with players like Franz, Jalen Johnson, Sengun and Trey Murphy on the board.
Go to 2020 and not pick James Wiseman lol
Of course the one year in the 2020s that didn’t have an elite big 😭
They were much better off just taking the best player, as usually is the case. Of course in hindsight it’s easier to make the decision
He was viewed as one of the best players. Consensus top 3 by pretty much every outlet was Edwards Melo Wiseman top 3. On top of that he fit a need they had so if they decided to keep the pick it was a no-brainer.
Which was wiseman lol. It was between him or Lamelo and I doubt GS wanted Lamelo
Tbf I bet like 90% of the draft busts are like big man. Bagley, Ayton, Wiseman in recent years, could name a couple others right now
There are a ton of non-bigs who were busts too:
Killian Hayes
Pat Williams
Jalen Green
Culver
Fultz
Josh jackson
Ntilikina
Dennis Smith
Hezonja
Mudiay
Pretty weak draft looking back on it.
Something something Lamelo Ball
I doubt Lamelo fits well into that offense. It would be a JK 2.0 situation
Haliburton we coulda got, we were gonna trade the high pick or snag him early
Insane lamelo hate he has no issue being a distributor OR making great passes
To compare Lamelo Ball’s fit on offence to JK is an interesting take to say the very very least
There’s a decent amount of stars. Haliburton, Maxey, Edwards, Avdija and I guess Lamelo has made an all-star once but he’s pretty inefficient. The top 3 though could all reasonably make an all-nba first team, and tbh not impossible for Avdija either.
And 2021 and not pick Kuminga while you’re at it.
E. Have MDJ grow some balls and trade all the damn picks
F. Tank and trade Steph so he has a chance for #5 elsewhere
G: tell the warriors go to draft any of Franz, sengun, Jalen Johnson, TM3, Herb jones, Aaron Wiggins instead of kininga and moody in 21 draft and peyton watson / jaylin Williams / Andrew nelbard with 2 of their 3 picks in 22 draft, tell them to draft
These guys developed on lottery teams. They wouldn’t be the same players with less minutes.
This should be obvious to everyone, but for some reason people insist on assuming these players would be the same having played with Kuminga’s short leash.
I’d push back on that notion pretty heavily. Herb was arguably at his best coming into the league, Aaron Wiggins would get more minutes on the warriors then he had on the thunder, same for Jwill and sengun. You could argue that case for Jalen Johnson, Franz and definitely TM3 but for the rest I think you are wrong
H. get Steve to name his son Nicholas instead of Nick
Side note, I don’t think dunleavy is popular enough to earn an initials nickname.
F is terrible, Steph as anything but a Warriors lifer is blasphemy
[deleted]
F. Go back to 2016 and do NOT slip on sweat in Round 1 vs. the Rockets
G. Go back to 2001 and stop 9⁄11 and maybe also the patriots dynasty and don’t buy beanie babies
Nah, it’s the slipping in round 1 that did Curry in.
Hahaha. Klay said what???
E. Go back in time to the 2021 draft and have the Warriors select Franz and Trey Murphy.
F. Go back in time to the 2020 draft and have the Warriors select Haliburton.
Add go back to July 29, 2021 and tell the warriors FO to draft Sengun over moody, and Wagner over Kuminga
Or request a trade, unfortunately. Steph to Spurs for Fox, Harper, maybe a pick. Up to Steph though. In Golden State its a wrap
Spurs don’t wanna give up Harper, he is part of their next core 3. Could do Fox and someone else and actual picks.
Tell kd to sit the rest of the game after he scores 10pts
I mean, it’s not hard at all. He just needs to ask for a trade.
Asking for a buyout and signing a min with OKC would also probably do the job
The reverse KD
Or tell the FO to not fuck up their draft after the Looney year.
a leads to no kd
Dont draft Wiseman. If they hit the jackpot that day, it would have changed their trajectory forever. Imagine Haliburton with Steph.
Without A. KD doesn’t sign with us and there’s no guarantee we win 2 more rings.
it aint B. I’ll tell you that much… Raps almost won that series in 5 with a healthy Klay lmao.
Nah game 3 was a critical game and Klay missed that. GS had just stolen homecourt in g2 but gave it right back in g3. To this day idk why they didn’t allow Klay to play that game. He was even wearing his warmups
Anyways that dunk i’m referring to happened in G6. Instead of having Klay in the 4th, Quinn Cook was on the court and it still came down to the final shot
If A happens, then 2017 doesn’t happen, so still no 5th
This would fuck the timeline worse than Barry ever did
Or go back to 2016 and make sure the organization file a complain on the ref straight after game 5 to make sure game 6 ref is not biased as fuck
Doctor Strange to Tony Stark: one while putting his pointer in the air
Give me D at least when Steph retired our future seasons wouldn’t look so bleak
Steph’s still elite but our owner’s been planning for life after Steph for 3+ years now. i hate this shit man
The owner started his bullshit two timeline crap when Steph was 31 lmao
what a fall from grace from Lacob. went from hiring the right people and letting them do their job to becoming NBA’s Jerry Jones
Dudes a clown I have no idea how he of all people gave up on Steph when he was 31 considering the entire franchise is a Steph merchant
I mean going for Jimmy and staying with Dray isn’t exactly the work of someone who isn’t trying to contend with Steph in mind. They had some horrible draft picks that ruined plans but even then they still won a title post Klay injury and KD leaving. Most teams never see a title.
Jimmy move was good but should have made a similar deal years before
The two timelines thing could’ve worked if any of Moody, Kuminga, Wiseman weren’t bums
Moody isn’t a bum. Good but not great 3 and d player being developed
Then they’re bad at drafting. Still the fo fault
I’m not sold Kuminga is a bum, whatever is going on behind the scenes isn’t about is ability when you look at who’s been getting playing time over him.
All their cap is tied up in 35+ year old Steph, Jimmy, and Draymond.
To say they are playing for the future is pure science fiction.
They have repeatedly refused to trade future picks. It’s just that Steph’s longevity has made them current picks.
Podz, Moody, Kuminga, Wiseman All shoudlve been traded before even becoming picks for actual players.
I never saw credible rumors about anyone offering anything significant for 2/7/14. The idea that there was a great package for immediate help is purely hypothetical. Podz was a relatively late pick. He’s better than a vet they would’ve gotten for that pick.
I fail to see how prioritizing vets like Butler, Horford, Melton, and Seth is giving up the present for the future. Some Warriors fans are just in their feelings and not being logical. There are things you can criticize Lacob for, but he’s not a penny pincher or someone who punted the present for the future. By all accounts the team has made runs at Lauri, PG, Jimmy, and LeBron in the last few years. They’ve been proactive about trying to find a winning formula. If you think this is apathetic ownership, some of you have never really experience that.
He nixed the OG trade cause muh picks
He never made an offer for Myles Turner cause muh picks
He was wasn’t willing to trade for MPJ before this injury because muh picks
Stop lying to yourself that Lacob hasn’t wanted to move on from the Steph Curry era for 5 years now. He’s on the record saying dumb shit like two timelines, “Joe Montana didn’t retire a 49er”. It doesn’t take a genius to read between the lines
Sure bro, nothing says “giving up on the present” like trading for 35 year old Jimmy Butler and signing him to a $112M extension.
Delusional.
He gave up 1 pick for that and not a future one, he gave up the pick from that year itself. And didn’t give up any of the young players to make it happen.
Wiggins is a better player than Podz/Moody/Kuminga, hence why Miami did the trade for him and not “any of the young players”.
If Lacob had to give up Kuminga and picks for Wiggins right now, do you think he would do that deal?
I don’t. Because he likes Kumingas future and “potential” over Wiggins who’s ceiling is known, even though Wiggins is a better player
He’s not willing to give up those picks for MPJ even though MPJ is better than Trey because MPJ is older and wouldn’t be apart of the future
As the commenter below me said, Podz was UNTRADABLE for Lauri.
That says he’s focused on the future not the current
These are mostly unconfirmed nonsense rumours. That was the only sticking point in that possible trade, since Ainge is an otherwise generous and willing trade partner?
It only took him and the FO 4-5 years of sitting on the fence before they finally greenlit a trade for some help for Curry though. Without any significant asset losses. Theyve had options, theyve just not taken them.
They got Wiggins in 2020 and won a ring with him in 2022.
Wiggins wasn`t really a trade where they lost future assets though.
And they promptly rewarded the 2022 championship team by drafting 3 new rookies, and having the defending champions go out there and defend it with a roster comprising of 1⁄3 rookies and Wiseman.
Pretty sure Lacob and Myers even admitted that they thought the dynasty was over in 2019 and did nothing to try and help retool the team. Curry just happened to backpack them to another ring, and even then they refused to make any significant moves all the way till the deadline last year.
They refused to trade Podz for Lauri.
Not sure if that’s ever been confirmed. I thought the rumor is that Ainge demanded everything but the kitchen sink: Podz, Kuminga, and multiple FRP/swaps. There was also no indication that Lauri ever even wanted the move. I’m not sure we need to invent pretend offers that never existed so we can get outraged about the team not accepting them.
If we’re doing that, then let’s go all the way. They refused to trade Gui for Jokic. Kill Lacob!
you’re right. ainge wanted literally all the young players and the picks. the warriors said if you want Podz, then we’re not giving you all of the picks. They were willing to trade podz, but not at the price the jazz wanted
Kuminga and Podz and a pick for Lauri would have been amazing for us. The Warriors considered both Kuminga and Podz untouchable.
Don’t make me bring up Lacob drafting Wiseman with the #2 pick, considering him untouchable, then trading him for GP2, a player we already had lmao.
The one big miss was the offer of WCJ and pick 12 (I think, or maybe 14) that was one the table for number 2. Kerr wanted it because he wanted to draft Hali.
I imagine if Giannis becomes available they’ll try to put up a good offer
Because that is pivoting off Steph curry. Lacob doesn’t want to build around Steph and hasn’t since 2019.
Read some of his interviews and you can tell he wants to be known as “the reason” the Warriors are successful. Steph was a previous owners pick and gets more credit for the success which bugs Lacob.
they’ve been on this two timelines plan since 2020. If they really were playing for now they would have traded Kuminga years ago, and also their draft picks they used in Wiseman and Moody
Let’s give them more credit. They were the highest spending team from 2020 to 2024
Yeah I never understood this. What exactly do people want them to do to “get Steph help”
They are famously not interested in trading their picks post-Steph, I think at this point its the smart thing to do because I mean like what are they gonna do, get MPJ for Jimmy and picks and win? Not really. But people are just upset that they are not considering trading those picks and a lot of Warriors fans are like I don’t even care what happens after Steph retires anyway.
I’ve never understood Lacob’s approach after the 2022 title. Unless Steph fell apart or demanded to leave, why wouldn’t they trade every pick or younger player to maximize another championship run?
If another title (or even a deep run with a chance to win a title) cost 5+ years of terrible losses as they rebuild after Steph retires, isn’t that worth it?
A lot of people confuse luck with skill. Lacob probably thinks all of Warriors past success was on him, so kept pushing for his way.
I guess it looks a little worse in hindsight, because I mean what if Steph just fell of hard during these years, and Dray also same issue, maybe if they knew Steph was going to be averaging near 30 on great efficiency at age 37, they would have been more aggressive but who knows.
And they’ve utterly failed at it too. Once Steph is done, their best player for the future is who? Pod? Moody? The front office should get a grade of F for how they’ve utilized the value of those lottery picks and post curry build
I’m not gonna be as up to date as you about his failings but I feel like the trade for Jimmy last year was a pretty big all-in move, no? How much does the new CBA let them do outside of that?
Feels like the real problems have been injuries, the decline of dray, and completely striking out in the draft despite high picks.
That’s not an all in move when it was 2 1⁄2 years to late and they gave up nothing because he was disgruntled.
All Joe Lacob had to do was open the check book and butt in
Jacob paid almost half a billion dollars in salary + tax some years. So much so that the new CBA was written to stop him. Is he enamoured with mediocre young players? Yes. But he is not cheap.
6+ year actually
2020-21 Warriors are back baby.
That means Warriors is 2026-27 Champ?🤔
Or just Curry will be champ again in 26-27
Yall don’t want to see them next year
Curry deserves better man. Seeing my favorite player like this hurts me a bit
Steph will go down with the ship into his twilight ala Dirk. Don’t feel sad. He is the Warriors through good and bad. The run doesn’t last forever.
I don’t think anybody feels bad for the dude with 4 championships
Obviously he could retire tomorrow as one of the greatest ever, but it’s still bittersweet imo watching him continue to ball out on a painfully mediocre team
At some point it had to happen though. He’s been so good for so long that it’s hard to get new talent to build around him
Kobe played his final few years with garbage team too
Kobe was washed from injuries, Curry is still one of the best players in the league.
Kobe was not one of the best players in the league then
That has been LeBron‘s career for the last 9 years except for that one year
And like 500 million in career earnings
I love Steph and I hope he never leaves Golden State.
That said, he’s 100% in control of his own destiny now. If he does decide he wants to be on a team that is still in contention for a championship I absolutely want that for him. Rack up as many rings as possible, then come back and retire a Warrior.
It’ll be extremely hard to argue for him not leaving GS if he’s putting these kinds of numbers up still at the end of the year, cause we straight up aren’t going to be seeing 6’2” guards doing this at age 38+. He’s a true one-of-one.
Nature of the beast
We’re going to be getting a lot more of these kinds of posts.
Kerr putting Curry in lineups with two offensive negatives, Draymond and Payton is malpractice. It’s not 2016 anymore.
Kerr’s trying out new lineups on the fly. has no choice too. Gonna be tough to play Dray with Steph if Dray is gonna continue playing with no effort
these lineups are new?
seeing the same 3-4 guard lineups Kerr loves so much when Dwight fucking Powell is dominating their ass on the boards and Mavs are scoring in the paint at will
who should he put in instead?? Jimmy and Kuminga are out. Draymond is playing like garbage. Horford was good when he played but he cant play that many minutes. TJD isnt good enough. and Post cant get rebounds at his size. Im not blaming kerr when he’s coaching with a limited roster at the moment
Please share some of your lineup ideas that don’t feature two offensive negatives to match with Curry’s 32mpg. This roster is ass.
It’s unfortunate how much the team has to bend just to make Draymond playable and he’s still bad.
Get him some help
Apparently Giannis is coming to SF any day now
Send da picks
Kuminga and a few picks, who says no?
Kuminga + dray + picks
Is there a limit on the number of picks we can send?
Giannis and LeBron on their way.
Draymond is like Anti-help at this point too. Dude is so bad at basketball right now it’s actually shocking.
Regardless of what this season turns into, it’s just cool to see Steph operate at such a high level at this age.
I have no hopes for the team to win games, but it’s still fun watching Steph still be that dude. Only one other player has ever been this good at age 37, and that’s Lebron. Steph is just special and I’ll always be thankful I got to see him play for my favorite team
Same.
Ethical GOAT
2 fts
someone knock out draymond right now
Feels like we’re going to get a lot of these “despite the loss” Curry posts this year :(
Trade curry to San Antonio. Let me cheer for him again
I would absolutely love to see that. Your team is so fun to watch, and Curry would instantly turn one of your greatest weaknesses (3pt shooting) into one of your greatest strengths.
Please do. He and Wemby would be so fun to watch together
I could root for the Spurs. Might have to anyway. :(
Oh man. That’s my dream. Two of my favorite players on one of my favorite teams.
And have a double-Steph lineup with Castle.
I’ve already become a spurs fan since we have no more hope for this season (and many to come)
I hate Curry. I hate his face. I hate that he chews on his mouth guard all game. In fact, that’s 95% of the cause of my ire.
He’s higher than Lebron on the all time list. He just is. Second best behind Jordan.
Checks flair
Yeah sounds about right for a team who was vassal state of eastern empire of Lebron James for the last decade.
Just let the dude say it for the memes.
It’s not a fandom issue. I am also (obviously based on flair) a Pats fan but I think Josh Allen is the best QB currently in the league. I don’t let my fandom biases cloud my judgement.
Allen had a really rough game in the Divisional unfortunately. But right now I still think him, Mahomes and Lamar will be the 3 best QBs in the league next year maybe. Drake is still young and developing, but he’s already up there too. Stafford had an amazing season but from here on out it’s gonna be the next guys up. Burrow is stuck on the Bengals.
I’m as big of a curry fan as you’ll find and this is just an awful take. I hate lebron more than any athlete in history and I have to begrudgingly acknowledge he is a firm #2 all time
I love Curry, I love his ESPN commercials, how he’s just an aimbot with the three, how he won us our last Gold medal, when they were underdogs, when they were the best team of all time, the wars with Lebron… all of it… I hate how he chews on his mouth guard. It’s so unsanitary.
Dunno, but I wrote it from the heart I assure you. The drunken heart. The most honest kind of heart.
Delusional take
Also a -25.
That’s a problem that the players he is playing with are causing his minutes to be negative. That needs to be figured out ASAP if we are to have a chance.
Steph is our only hope to build a lead and can’t be playing with players that cause this.
That’s two games in a row. Hopefully Kerr and Tran figure it out.
Shit I didn’t realize Steph was that old (37). Holy F. Insane work ethic and focus.
Trade him.
what can the Warriors realistically do to become contenders without moving Steph
Mind control every other front office
Get Nico Harrison hired somewhere
Send him to San Antonio. Wemby is too thin.
Obtain the Time Stone
I don’t even think Giannis could save this roster. Better to let Steph request a trade for a decent team, he deserves to go out on his own terms
Giannis and LeBron would do it.
Trade Draymond, Butler, and literally every pick for impact players and pray Steph goes nuclear for 3 weeks in the playoffs.
It’s not really feasible or possible but the only way is either Giannis refusing to go anywhere other than GS and so the dub get him for pennies on the dollar, or some miracle buy low on a star like Zion or AD goes literally perfect (like one in a million perfect).
They can convince Lebron to join in the off-season. It’s an unction but he fills in everything the team needs, can play in Steve’s system, can tank 50 dray punches, and positionally versatile
Naji Marshall had 8 FT’a lmfao
Naji is shooting like 65% in the paint.
I dont wanna see Steph waste the last years of his career in a shitty situation but at the same time we know he wanna finish his career here because he dont see himself anywhere else
He should ask for a trade
Great shooting, to bad nobody else could help him
Giannis please ask a trade to GSW already… that team has assets MIL would love
The warriors want to have their cake and eat it too. The warriors want to make a move that enables them to win with Steph, but also don’t want to give up draft capital. You can’t do these things simultaneously.
Current warriors FO are trynna speed run post Jordan era Bulls Irrelevancy.
Get this man some help.
He can run around only for so long.
They shouldn’t have signed that Dray contract.
Their system isn’t working anymore. It hasn’t worked for the last several years. Their system is basically give Steph the ball.
Everytime Dray or someone else rebounds it, they don’t even try to attempt a shot. They just are looking to pass to Steph who is almost always never open.
He doesn’t have long left and is in a bad spot. The Warriors should consider trading him to us to give him a chance to win another title.
2026 FRP
2028 (swap)
2030 (swap)
cmon warriors, just get him on the plane now
Get him some damn help
Lol
unbelievable
is +/- bugged? why -24?
I’ve given up on the Warriors bringing in enough help for him to make one more realistic run at it. I think they should trade him to a real contender. I would love to see him team up with SGA, Jokic, Giannis, Luka, Cade or Wemby
Seen enough. Trade him somewhere he can win. ;)
Trade this man. He deserves better than this trash heap roster.
“Despite the loss” will never not be funny!
Steph should forfeit the season
Cone on defense, but shit like that gets upvoted.
GET THIS MAN HELP
