This leap was not predictable at all, and I am someone who was always very high on Peyton’s skillset and ceiling. Its not like he progressively improved on offense and you could be very sure of it coming, he was an extremely limited offensive player still just last year (his one decent skill was making corner 3s) and all of a sudden has evolved at an explosive pace in a ton of different areas. Not just the scoring from all 3 levels, today he had only 1 TOV per 3 assists and a massive scoring load, when before that (even earlier this season) he was a turnover machine everytime he tried to do a bit more.

And the noise is that he was asking for a relatively big contract in October, around 20M per year. Obviously with hindsight those 20M would have been good, but if this leap doesn’t exist it could be a scary ass contract very quickly

I think everyone knew he had the athleticism and some of the raw skills, but he hadn’t put it together. Plus, he frequently made mistakes and looked offensively limited and one dimensional. All of a sudden his 3 is falling and he’s developed a midrange game… in like a month. That was hard to see coming.

Teams hardly practice during the season anymore. Its basically just the training camp and the games. Watson doing a completely different role too. Some of the shots going in sometimes look awkward around the rim. You dont know what translates and what doesnt without game experience.

His play was already quite good while Jokic was around, but he was able to scale up his production and role without losing the career-best efficiency he found. It’s been quite a few games now and he’s varied from good to great throughout them, it really looks like he’s found both a new consistent floor and a far higher ceiling. Doesn’t feel like a fluke to me cause you can really see that what he’s doing better is from practice and coaching if you’ve been following his progression during the season, especially the midrange shots he’s clearly been drilling insanely cause they’re smooth as hell now. And ofc the three-ball just looks instinctual to him lately.
