The reality is that everyone complaining would be leagues worse at it. I can’t imagine a more annoying, impossible job. No one likes you, you get chirped at all game by players, coaches, and fans, and you have to make 50⁄50 calls all game long by the best athletes on the planet who work on moves to specifically deceive you. On top of that you have the league incentives on certain things that don’t really align with fan enjoyment (at least in my case I’m fine with physical defense and play, but the league this year pushed for right of way for the ball handler. And this is what gms and coaches wanted based off a sixers interview with darryl after the season last year during the playoffs).
All that being said, the plays like the one in this thread are dogshit and idk wtf is going on here (and it’s against my team in this instance). But I also think that ppl are not rational when it comes to how hard it is to ref these games.
My theory is that ppl get more upset now than they did in the past bc players used to be much more resigned after bad calls. And obviously we have hi-def tvs and things are much clearer than they used to be during a watching experience. But society has changed where over reactions by everyone are tolerated and blame is shifted constantly.
In this instance it doesn’t matter how good or bad the refs are, no one is perfect but just look at the fucking video and call it correctly. Especially when it’s on the last play of regulation
They already waste way too much time on reviews. They either need to start doing all reviews off site to speed it up like the NFL or they need to continue to be careful not to inflate the number of reviews any more than they already have.

There are no quick reviews in this league. Every time they review something the game stops for multiple minutes.
Even when they do a review, the refs egos are too fragile to admit that they missed a call. They would never alter the course of the game because then they would admit that they did something wrong.

I know that as far as the nfl is concerned when the refs review a play, they can only use camera angles that are available in every stadium. So viewers and the broadcast actually get to see more angles than the refs.

Maybe have a game integrity bunker in Secaucus that coaches or refs can flag a play for review (it’s not undermining the refs, it’s clearing them from suspicion of manufactured results, because they are no longer a single point of failure). They could press a review button, and the review panel calls it as they see it.
If a majority exists on the call between the on court team and the three panel judges, it’s overturned. If not, it stands. (Yes this biases towards refs on a 2-2 split, but we are only overturning things that are obviously wrong, and 2-1-1 splits are possible.)

KD gets away with whatever at the end of games. Opening night, he should’ve gotten a tech for calling a TO in OT when they had none and the refs just let time expire and it went to 2OT. Thankfully the Thunder still won but yet again, he gets bailed out for game losing plays

Also insane that they didn’t just give the role to the Sixers Radio Thunder God Tom McGinnis, who does both play by play and color all by HIMSELF for like the last 30 years (most importantly was hired right as Iverson was coming into his own in the late 90s.) The motherfucker was must listen RADIO (yes I said radio) anytime he was calling an Iverson lead game. Can’t tell you how many times my friends and I would stay in the car to listen to another 10 minutes of an electric McGinnis radio broadcast calling some random Sixers game in the middle of February.
