1984 is the only year both have made it out of the first round. And the J Kidd Nets started literally the year after Ewing left, so even those two teams didn’t overlap (granted Ewing was done by that point).
Thank you, that little run in the early to mid ‘90s is what I thought of as probably the most consistent period when both teams were winning. The Derrick Coleman/Kenny Anderson Nets weren’t nearly as good as that era of the Knicks were, but they were at least a somewhat decent team.
Going further back, the last time the Knicks won a championship in ‘72-‘73, the following year the NY Nets won the ABA championship in ‘73-‘74, with Dr. J as the MVP. Then they won it again a couple years later in a year the Knicks didn’t make the playoffs. Still though, that mid ‘70s run was pretty great. I know my parents were fans of both teams, and I’m certain they weren’t alone.
He actually did play in a loss to the Knicks his rookie year before KD and Harden came over.

I hope we trade for him, but I think he’d be too expensive.
You guys don’t need to trade him as he fits your timeline, you have no incentive to tank next season, there aren’t many good C’s available on the trade market or the free agency market this offseason, and you don’t desperately need more assets.
Another factor is that as there aren’t a lot of C’s available for trade this season, teams in need of a starting C, such as the Celtics and Pacers would also likely bid for him.
When you consider both of these factors, he would require a considerably overpay that I don’t think is worth it for us when we have limited assets.
The main reason to trade him would be to sell high for this draft and go forward with Clowney who has shown flashes. But I don’t know if there’s any return we get this year that makes it worth it.
