Butler is a better player than everyone I just listed clearly, and it absolutely sucks that an injury happened to him- but it allows for some creativity using future picks. The franchise is going to suck once Steph retires

Salary dumps are pretty valuable. Especially if it’s salary dump + picks for a good player that a team is willing to offload in order to tank.

Now, who knows if that’s the warriors plan or not, but that’s definitely a very attractive trade package for several teams I would imagine

A bad contract player on a longer deal who can provide value in exchange for an expiring contract that’ll be a nice trade asset for a tanking team next season, mostly.

The low-effort observation would be something like Kuminga+Butler for LaVine+DeRozan, though I’m not sure if it’s even possible to get the cap close. Alternatively, maybe DAL really wants off Davis, and the Warriors would rather have him come back late in the season, while DAL could use Butler as a flippable asset before resetting further around Flagg. Same ideas with, say, the undesirable players on big contracts in MEM and elsewhere.

If the warriors wanted to offer picks with his salary for a productive player or a handful of productive players I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t say that’s a realistic option.

There’s an important reason: expiring contract next year. If a team wants to clear out a bad long-term max contract, trading for Butler would be helpful.

Warriors have plenty of great picks to attach to the deal. If they wanted to swap him out for another player(s), there is easily a market for him.

Imagine a world where Warriors offer the Bucks the 27, 29, 31 first rounders plus 26, 28, 32 first round pick swaps plus maybe a 2030 second round pick. Also, Giannis and Butler have identical salaries this year.

It might be one of the best offers they get considering the Warriors might be bottom-dwellers in 2031 & 2032 if Giannis gets injured or he leaves the team.

Dubs fans were saying this for years. Just give Steph another chance at the title. 2022 title showed that there is still a lot of gas left in the tank. After 22-23 season moves had to be made, but they weren’t. Then again after 23-24 season.

Each time it was a little bit, but not enough to move the needle and then they finally settled on an old star mid season of the last year. Even that wasn’t all in that fans wanted and the team needed. Especially when they looked at Knicks and Orlando going all in just to compete.

Especially since Curry has barely slowed down with age, any reduction in stats could easily be attributed to having a worse team. They could almost certainly get Gianiss with the right package, but as you said it would cripple the team for a while, still worth it as a fan.

They just went 12 and 4 and went from 8th to 8th. Their window since their championship is play in especially since steph insists on keeping his appendage

Even if they get another “Ok” star for Butler, they still have would still have an extremely top heavy roster with a terrible bench and a League were their are plenty of deep teams currently in a contending position.

I don’t think there’s any move the Warriors can make that makes them any better then a play-in team that maybe puts up a fight in the first round before going out.

If Curry fans want to watch his career go out on a high note then it’s obviously better off for both him and the Warriors to just trade him. They could always trade Curry as an expiring next year for even more value and have him re-sign the following year for a retirement tour if retiring a Warrior is that important.

i don’t really like this perspective because they signed Al Horford who just became hella washed. I hate when people try to spin this narrative smh.

If they have him after this coming trade deadline, there would be no point offloading his contract. They want him to stay because he actually fits well with Dray and Steph. Both of them combined unlock Stephs ability to go nuclear, which is something Steph hasn’t been able to do casually for many years now, probably since Iguodala was around healthy. Unless they can find a forward with court vision like Jimmy who also defends well they won’t move from him.

Those first rounds are very valuable so I don’t foresee them doing it.

Why not just blow it up and let curry jack up hella shots on a retirement tour? Trade Jimmy for worse contracts and get a pick back or two. Maybe even offload Dray

GM is tied because the head coach wants guards. The owner still believes in their drafted young players. The fans wants evrryone gone aside from Curry.

They are awful, but this situation is a bit complicated now that Jimmy is injured. Quite lucky we didn’t make a move before this because the teams needs are very different without him.

I dont envy them their choices. We now have 50 million in overpaid dead weight after going all in on jimmy. We have a ton of mid youth that would be benched on most teams. And a legacy player who is like the king with no clothes.

For me this front office is the best one we’ve had in all my 50 years of watching this team. Although kudos to larry Riley. I will put the bad lottery picks at the feet of Bob Meyers. I’m not sure if dunleavy is strong enough to make his voice heard against joey and can strip dray of his influence. His voice is involved in most of our picks including Jacob Evans. He’s done fine with his late round and second round picks so hopefully he preserves post steph picks. I’m not one who blames lacob for every thing bad. But I can see how he is intimidating.i would give up no first round picks past 26 as we already have 25 wins. We will need all of our chances at a good player. I would just patch this shit together with silly string and duct tape. Concentrate on making this team entertaining and not just mid. I felt i got my cherry on the top in 22, feel stephs legacy is set and am not part of the everything for steph brigade.

I’d gladly take jimmy’s remaining 1 season expiring contract that I could likely also trade again the next season over some other bad contracts in the league like Patrick Williams for example.

I love Jimmy but I think even he would understand a trade happening here, if there’s no bad blood he could even resign here after his contract ends if the money worked.
