My 3D Printed Skydome!
I’ve never been to Toronto and I have no affiliation with or strong feeling toward the Blue Jays in any way.
But it will always be the Skydome to me.
It’s one thing when stadiums open with corporate names. SunTrust Park and then Truist Park: whatever. Mercedes-Benz Stadium: fine we can nickname it the Benz.
But it is the worst when established venues get corporate names. The historic Rosemont Horizon is the All State Arena. Yuck. New Orleans Arena is the Smoothie King Center. Worst one yet. “Skydome.” That’s a name!
My favorite are the corporate stadiums that don’t even feel like they’re corporate sponsored. Like Coors Field or Great American Ballpark.
I grew up near LA and I refuse to call it the Crypto.com arena, that’s the Staples Center!
I went to Milwaukee a couple years ago to see the Braves. I refused to call it anything but Miller Park. No Brewers fans corrected me.
It’s funny, I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone call the Rosemont Horizon “historic.” But thinking about all the legendary bands and wrestling matches that have passed through over the years, that’s a fine way to describe it. Most people in Chicago now just think of it as that venue out in the suburbs that’s hard to get to and hard to get out of.
I generally agree, but the Giants’ home will always be Pacific Bell Park to me. It just fit in a way that SBC, AT&T, and Oracle never have.
This is so cool! Did you make the model yourself?
Thanks so much! I did!
Where did you pull the Skydome STL from? I have never found one thats even semi decent online
I made it myself! I’ve uploaded it here for people to download: https://makerworld.com/en/models/2275130-rogers-centre-with-cn-tower-toronto-blue-jays#profileId-2480511
Any questions please let me know!
What software did you use to model it?
I used SolidWorks for Makers
Cool, I’m a SolidWorks user myself. Nice looking work!
Whole collection and painted, when?
This is pretty cool. How big are they, and do they show a good amount of detail?
My painting skills will only make it look worse, lol. The base of it is around 160mm wide x just under 160mm deep. The tower is about 200mm tall.
