Acuña can actually play OF pretty well, he’s really fast and has a very good defensive mind. He’s got a lot of upside - he saved season a few times last year (even though it didn’t work out in the end).

Tbh of all the infield prospects we have, he was the best one for a team who would want to try him in the outfield. 31 games in AAA in 2024 and half of his winter league games this year, plus 6 in the MLB last year but I wouldn’t see that as relevant. Definitely much better as an infielder but I wouldn’t count him out.
I am sure you could pick up a free agent or two looking to rebound and left unsigned as the off-season wraps up as stop gap options.

As a Mets fan, I hate this trade. Giving up a young guy making less than \(1m and with years of control for a guy that’s been aloof for multiple years, making \)20m, and a free agent after this season. I don’t get the, “David Stearns is a genius” talk. If it was for some pitching, I could understand it, but for this guy, I don’t get it. I’m not a guy that’s upset about them trading Nimmo, letting Alonso walk, or trading McNeil - I just want this team to win.

There was no room for Acuña and he’s out of options. He may not have made it out of Spring Training.
