I was not planning to succumb to the ransom ; but, turns out that au (one of the three main cellular providers, for anyone not familiar with Japan) is running a promo where you can get netflix free through April. As far as I can tell, cancelling is possible too.
It’s probably going to hurt viewership numbers compared to the last WBC since it used to air for free in Japan.
