The buyout market got hit pretty hard with the new CBA, so I think ten or so teams can’t sign him post-buyout since they are over the first apron and Khris is paid more than the MLE this season. The Bucks look to be able to though, as they’re at \(180M and the first apron is \)196M.

Fortunately for us, we can’t since signing him even for the minimum would put us into the first apron. He currently makes above the MLE, so we wouldn’t be allowed to sign him even if we wanted to.

Hard to watch a game like Boston and Detroit last night and not see an opportunity for him. A lot of teams are finding success leaning into defense first wings who struggle offensively.

Even if he can’t score on an especially high volume anymore, a guy like Middleton will have value because of how he negates that a bit. He’ll hit open 3s if they rotate away from him, make the right pass if they close on him, and he’s got enough craftiness and size that he can still occasionally create good looks against good defenders. On the other end, he’s easy to hide if the other team is playing multiple guys who are almost useless in a half court offense.

He’s like an end of the bench guy that you give minutes to as the season winds down and seeding gets wrapped up. I don’t know many playoff matchups where a contender would want to give him big minutes.

You’re correct. They don’t have another 14-20M to send out that isn’t a valuable rookie scale contract. Toronto isn’t interested in adding picks to swap IQ for Middleton either, they still think they can buy low on a star with him.

Each one served a purpose off the court. Poole to get off Beal, McCollum to get off Poole, Smart was a great mentor for Bub and Khris has been a great vet for Kyshawn (and has lead the tank valiantly)
