Two Wxy sadly peaked with the v3. The v4 and v5 were serious downgrades IMO. The Kawhi 4 are good though. I’ve since ditched Nike/Adidas/Jordan/NB and have been hooping in Chinese shoes for the last 18 months. So far I’ve only bought from Anta/Lining/WoW… but I just ordered the Rigorer AR3 and I can’t wait for them to come in

I still think the v4 are a good shoe in a vacuum, but going from the v3 it just felt like a serious downgrade, the v3 were minimal, flexible, felt low to the ground, etc. It felt like with The v4 they went the complete opposite direction, they felt way clunkier/chunkier.

But I’m biased because I loved the, v3, it is in my top 10 fav hoop shoes of all time

Having a signature shoe is nothing like it was before and the profits are in the toilet for % royalties. People only buy OG Jordans and to a lesser extent Kobes because they look great visually, can be worn casually, plus they are culturally relevant. All of the Luka Jordans and Tatum Jordans look like offbrand fakes.

The sales of every signature shoe outside of Jordan and Kobe is very low. People don’t need highly technical basketball shoes to just walk around and shop at the grocery store. It’s a waste of money and in this economy people aren’t saving up their money for Jokic’s or Jaylen Brown’s.

A lot of this is just simply because people don’t wear basketball shoes as much casually anymore. People would rather wear running shoes like ASICS, On Clouds, and New Balance because they’re more comfortable.

Also because basketball shoes are terrible for casual wear and people finally figured it out. The treads just aren’t made to handle anything but a flat surface like a basketball court and wear out fast anywhere else.

I think a big problem with basketball shoes regarding casual wear is that many of them tend to run narrow and there are few wide width basketball shoes, and the wide basketball shoes that do exist tend to come in just a basic black color.

I don’t think what you are saying is true - there are tons of name shoes selling well. I don’t think people necessarily buy shoes for the name anymore, but the name shoes are absolutely still selling.

Case in point, possibly the most popular name shoe out there right now isn’t even an NBA player - it’s the Sabrinas. It’s popular not because kids idolize Sabrina, but because they’re basically slightly lesser Kobes for half the price and widely available. Hell, even tons of NBA players wear the Sabrinas because they like them.

Go to any elementary school and tell me player sigs are down. They may be for adults but all you see in elementary are morants, Gianna’s, lamelo. Before Kyrie left Nike those were one of Nikes best selling shoes. Young kids don’t care as much about Jordan’s like the adults

Off the top of my head, they have Maxey, Jamal Murray, Kawhi, Cooper Flagg, and then Ohtani and Cameron Brink as well. That’s a pretty damn good lineup, as long as they don’t pull an Under Armour and fumble it.

He deserves it, but its not going to make him money like back in the day. It’s probably going to be a huge loss for New Balance marketing them since they don’t really sponsor major high school or college teams. It’s going to be the same problem as Steph except worse - Under Armor tried sponsoring lots of youth teams and camps, but the sales didn’t warrant the losses. The marketing machine just isn’t there to push new unknown shoes onto youth and culture like pre-existing shoes already have. People just want the same old Jordans. He might get lucky and snag some Anthony Edwards vibes, but Lukas don’t sell well, Tatums don’t sell well. It’s a rough sneaker game and Michael Jordan is still the king of it.

Lmao like in 2019 when half of Canada wanted to buy Kawhi’s shoe during the Finals run… and they weren’t available for sale. I remember thinking why the hell would NB pay for a massive billboard at Yonge-Dundas Square advertising his shoe when it wasn’t even for sale.

I thought NB had a good run of marketing for kawhi after the Raps won the finals that year, distribution is a different game, i suppose. To be honest though I’ve never been a fan of any of the silhouettes they’ve released for Kawhi, them joints ugly in my opinion.

I wouldn’t expect any ground breaking sales for Maxey but he’s very marketable if done correctly.

My comment was more speaking to what you said about the potential sales opportunities if Maxey went on a deep playoff run. I’m sure NB has learned a lot since 2019, but it wouldn’t be the first time they’ve fumbled a Finals appearance.
