They were trying the Flagg as PG experiment and he was getting clamped so bad they moved his ass off ball to get away from Carter.
In the preseason Bryant quite literally shut him down so hard that the Mavericks had to completely change how they used him. Like flag could not bring the ball up the court with Bryant on him. He had like two turnovers in a short period of time and several almost turnovers where he barely got the ball across
In the second half they moved him off ball and set as many screens as they could to get Bryant the hell away from him. And flag did much better. But when he was defended 1v1 Carter genuinely gave him problems
He’s gonna be really good for you guys, been a fan of the pick from day one, hopefully the front office can be patient with him because the offense 100% has a ton of catching up to do to be good enough for the league.
A serviceable 3-ball will go a long way but I agree, needs to improve more on his mid game and drives.
Don’t worry about his three ball. I fully trust your coaching staff to get him there, and the base they’ll be working off of is solid imho. His spot up shooting should be decent at least. But if the shot creation develops even a bit, oh man, watch out.
3-ball will be fine and will get better with reps. He’s got great shooting form, high release, and never hesitates to shoot when he’s got the shot.

I think it’s such a shame that we haven’t been able to find a way for Sochan to fit offensively, because I would love to see the kind of defensive havoc that a lineup of Castle, Bryant, Sochan and Wemby (with really anyone “average” as the 5th guy) would cause teams when we’re at our peak.

They already tried everything with him IMO. People were calling for pops head for trying him at point a few years back. If he can never be an even average 3 pt shooter he won’t be a consistent rotation player.
Sir, that was also for tanking purposes. We had Tre Jones on the roster at the time, who is a perfectly serviceable pg. But having Sochan at the point cratered our record and helped us get Castle.
Yeah they’ve tried him at point to work on his playmaking. Made him shoot one handed FTs to work on his shooting form. Started him for 2.5 seasons straight since his first game in the NBA. He’s had his chances, he just hasn’t proven he’ll develop like they wanted him to.
Sochan has that energy but the Spurs acquired so many fiesty young players so quickly that it’s not a huge need for them.

The part’s just don’t fit for him right now, and while he’s talented at the things he does its not enough to merit building around. Need to find a team that’s trying to play rocketball already (i.e. bad offense, good defense, all the offensive rebounds). He’d fit in something like that.

I say this as a guy who had high hopes for Sochan
He worked on it with a shooting coach outside of the organization. It looked ok but if you don’t get regular in game reps, it’s tough to keep it up

There’s a reason a lot of draft experts thought he could go as high as top 10 despite having such modest numbers in college
He is the ideal blend of size, strength, speed, and athleticism for a modern NBA Wing. And he doesn’t have a broken jumper unlike a lot of the other athletes first basketball players second, prospects from the past.
He has a massive ceiling as a role player, even if it’ll probably take him a while to get there

From an unbiased perspective, he hasn’t been great he’s been largely negative whenever he plays but has potential especially defensively problem is he somehow can’t hit a three a mid ranger a layup an open dunk or pretty much anything.

But he has all the physical and mental traits a team wants in a player, just need to give him more time.

I’ve wanted him to be in the G league a lot more, getting reps. His minutes are still spotty as fuck, sometimes not playing 2 games in a row. Multiple times this season. So instead we get flashes of him being good but mostly just games of him getting burned or being awful on offense.
had a huge missed dunk streak for a bit. he’s clearly athletic and shows flashes especially defensively but he needs to get comfortable with the ball in his hand, he really can’t do much on offense atm
