[Highlight] Victor Wembanyama issued flopping technical vs Utah
“Too damn big to be doing that” tech
But actually. Dude is gonna take years off his career with how much he throws himself to the floor on flops and drives.
He should have a chat with Embiid.
Laughs in KAT
When he was in the Wolves, you could count on him for 2-3 drives a game where he drove to the basket like a baby giraffe on roller skates on ice. I think he led the league in offensive fouls at least one year.
He had one of those tonight!
lol - I can’t believe this never got fixed.
A Twolves fan on another thread asked if he does the kick out on 3s and that happened tonight too! Kicked the guy in the nuts and got a flagrant for a hostile act 😭😭😭
He kicked him the nuts multiple times and he got kicked right back finally.
Poor Powell. Dude has the highest rate of elbows and nuts kicked per game it feels.
I’m inclined to believe he’s been taught to fall often to avoid stress on his ankles. But some flopping here and there for sure
This whole discourse is kind of blowing my mind. I understand I have a bias but I try and watch our games with out it, he really does not flop all that much. He does fall down quite a bit, but that is an effort to save his tall skinny legs.
Flopping though? He rarely does lmao
These mfs tripping
It’s about once a game he does a pretty obvious flop which is nothing in the grand scheme of the game.
BUT if you count those bullshit rip-through baiting attempts he does then its a lot more. He especially does them following a review and he never gets the call because the refs want the game to move on after all the stoppages.
Kornet however as much as we love him absolutely flops a bunch hahaha its at least 3 a game he’ll just look like he’s gotten uppercutted by mike tyson with no one in sight, he never gets those calls.
The internet is a place where people like to gaslight eachother into believing objectively false shit because it feels right. We are a vibes based people now.
You can’t defeat a vibes based system.
Why do you think falling on the floor will take years off his career? Most major injuries come from major changes in speed on one limb (eg landing on an ankle, accelerating quickly for a drive and tearing something, etc). Falling from a flop is usually pretty controlled as you’re distributing the weight around evenly.
Tell me what player has lost years (or even months) of their career from flopping specifically?
Its not about a major injury, its about wear and tear on the body. Every time you hit the floor at speed, you risk little injuries that build up.
Like look at an extreme case like running backs in football. They dont have short careers because they all tear their acls. They have short careers because they accumulate a ton of wear and tear injuries, until suddenly theyre 28, have arthritis in both knees, and constant back pain.
A guy that big and lanky cant risk any damage building up in his joints or back. Even with modern medicine, a lot of that damage is going to be permanent and it adds up. Im not saying he’s as reckless as a D Wade or whatever, but at the same time he’s probably got less room for error when it comes to injuries.
Comparing being a running back to an NBA player is a little extreme, no?
There’s a reason the the Spurs coaching staff(and really all of Victors coaches through out the years) have him fall down. There must be some backed studies that show it’s better in the long run than going against the moment trying to stop.
Likely the same concept stunt men use when they are to jump out of a moving vehicle or people who do parkour. When you land you don’t want to land upright. You want to roll/lean into the fall to disperse as much kinetic energy as possible as opposed to putting that strain onto your muscles and ligaments.(i might be using the wrong terminology. I aint no learnist)
Thats why I said running backs are an extreme case. But the principle is the same even if its to a lesser extent, and Wemby is going to be far more injury prone than a 5’10” 185 guy. Of course there are a lot of plays where falling is the best thing to do, but he falls an awful lot of a player that size.
Its also worth noting that even with all the professional skill, stunt men have their bodies absolutely destroyed just like a running back. Its even suspected theyre getting cte just like football players. Still a far more extreme case than taking a fall on a drive or flopping, but at the end of the day, hitting the floor is hitting the floor, and you can only do so much to ease the impact.
Just here to say you guys are agreeing in principal but arguing for some reason, lol. Yes, he likely falls because it disperses energy and cushions the impact his joints otherwise have to absorb, and he’s been advised to do so. Just like a running back, except they’re not advised all that well because they average like 1.5 years in the league anyways.
“I’m disappointed in you” tech
“This hurts me more than it hurts you” tech
The “That’s what they teach you at Shaolin?” kinda tech.
He actually got training from Embiid this offseason
This absolutely needs to happen more.
“Too damn ethical to be doing that” tech*
Imagine if flopping techs were normalized.
What a beautiful game we’d have.
There would be 20 a game, but they’d hopefully get the message quick. I’m all for it.
That’s the thing, if they did it consistently for a couple weeks, players would adjust. It wouldn’t take long.
Ref? Consistency? I don’t think so.
They can definitely do it, like when they very clearly in a coordinated fashion started allowing much more contact a year or two ago after the all-star break.
Short term pain for a long term improvement of the NBA sounds worth it. Unfortunately any short term viewership loss or complaints would immediately justify to the league to reverse the decision and stop calling it lol.
There are a lot of flops in a game, but some of them are genuine reactions and are just hard to see the contact.
I remember the season when it was added as a rule, there was a guy who got hit pretty hard in the face. (Maybe by an elbow or somethiing, I forget the specifics) The ref didnt see the contact and assessed him a flopping tech. A while afterwards, they were showing the replays and you could clearly see him getting pretty hard in the face.
So as a result of a player getting hit in the face and instead of it being an offensive foul and his team gaining possession, the other team gets a free throw, possession of the ball, and he ends up with a technical foul on his records. (Which may have later been rescinded with the replays)
Because some things like this are just hard to see in the moment & as far as I know, technical fouls can’t be challenged - I think the mindset of the ref is to let them play on if they think it might be a flop, but its not 100% obvious.
I wish the booth refs could retroactively assess a flopping foul for blatant flops shown on replay. Wish they could do a lot more and the floor refs not to have absolute power on calls and challenges.
lakers fan saying this is legendary 😭
I also took a double take on it lmao. Like yes they should but also like we got Luka so yeah.
Ngl, I’m okay with Luka getting a technical here or there even as a Lakers fan. Shit truly gets on my nerve sometimes.
Luka seems to be losing the mamba mentality and being aggressive, he leans more into the James Harden mentality nowadays and just flop your way into points. And we all know what Kobe said, that kind of play doesn’t lead to championships.
Is it that hard to understand tho?
If it’s possible to take advantage of, I want to see my players take advantage of it.
I just don’t want it to be possible.
I don’t want Luka or Shai or reaves to go for a foul instead of trying to make a good shot.
I don’t want lebron to get hacked and then flop egregiously because he won’t get calls without it.
I just want shit to be fair and consistent.
Me too buddy me too
Man, every team has at least one flopping player. Spurs aka “The Ethical Team” has Victor falling in the floor with the slightest bit of contact and Julian Champagnie blatantly landing on defender’s foot. Bottomline is fans wants the best product and consistency from these bitch ass refs.
Luka is much more of a foul baiter then a flopper.
He doesnt have time to flop between playing for fouls and complaining about them
Lmfao
Lol
People might say it’s hypocritical based on the flair but I’m not sure why.
If players can abuse and game the system, I want my players to do it and do it best.
I just don’t want the system to be able to be abused at all.
I want shit to be fair and unbiased. But yeah, if it’s gotta be unfair and biased, I want it in my favor 🤷🏾♂️
[deleted]
Surprised they did it to a superstar
It’s safe to call during a Utah game because it won’t actually impact the result.
They gotta hit SGA. That man a walking foul merchant
It’d be so ethical
Ethical flop
“I’m just glad to be a part of something beautiful, pure and ethical basketball”
— Victor Wembanyama
I knew as soon as he said this he was gonna get shit for it as soon as he faltered 😂
Yeah, it’s deserved though. You can’t be calling out a teams character and then do the same thing.
He was literally talking about the Spurs playstyle. Here’s a translation if you don’t speak French
Q: Hello Victor, you spoke recently about ‘ethical basketball’, can you develop your thoughts on this ?
A: Yes, of course. It’s a bit abstract, but we see in modern basketball a lot of basketball plays where if there isn’t 5 players invested in the system, the danger doesn’t come from everywhere. And that’s not our case. For example, we don’t play a lot of iso, our 5 players on the court are a constant threat. I think we can describe this basketball as ‘oldschool’. I know it’s abstract, but that’s my opinion.

“I’m just glad to be a part of something that’s growing to be so beautiful,” he said. “So pure and ethical basketball.”
Didn’t even just falter. Went the entire opposite direction.
He always has flopped.
same, idk what sparked Wemby to say it and I’m all for him speaking his mind but as soon as you say something like that you can’t putt that genie back in the bottle
He wanted to be internet hero. But that’s okay he’s young and it happens
I mean he was for a few weeks
It was good for the budding rivalry which makes it good for the sport.
was wayyy too risky of a quote tbh
Everyone’s a hypocrite man😓
Well, it’s worse when you do it than when I do it!
Forgot this was a rule. What was this like the 4th time it was called all season?
Maybe 4th time in history lol
Never ever called ever against an offensive player. Just used as another way to punish defense cause that’s the problem with flopping in the NBA
Actually is made to make Derek Fisher and Vlade Divac stop flopping when they were in the league
I’ve seen a few but it’s almost always on some barely-in-the-league player in garbage time so it literally doesn’t matter at all except to take money from a player who might actually care about losing $2k. It’s very rare to see it on a player like Wemby.
Sure, but only because this was the 4th flop of the season. /s
Flop? Haven’t watched many games this year, this must be a new strat from the youngins
call it more, noone wants to see flopping. that shit is sad
But call it on the SHOOTERS too. They do more flopping that anybody.
I remember Lu Dort catching the first one ever and then….that shit went DARK. Refs don’t wanna call that shit in real life as they’d get tired of doing it all the damn time. NBA players are the kings of the flop. They rival soccer players
Season? Like 5 times max since it’s inception
the face of ethical basketball
The fact that he actually said that corny shit is still hilarious. Chronically online gen z superstar lmao
If Jason Tatum became a fake monk, held that press conference, shaved his head after a loss, Reddit would be collecting money to buy him a corniest man alive trophy.
thunder flairs dying to comment on this
Nah not just them, he looks like a clown after throwing shots about ethical basketball
Bro Jokic was jumping on people in the playoffs.
I don’t know what you’re talking about and it has nothing to do with the topic on hand.
But I don’t recall Jokic getting smug on interviews sniffing his own farts about how ethical he is
It was against the Thunder that he was jumping on players so he’s not allowed to use that against you. I’d much rather deal with Jokic and his nonchalantness flopping than Wemby and his holier than thou comments and then does this.
Yeah it’s really annoying when players are smug tbh
He’s talking about this.
https://youtu.be/TaIWwxAz6bY?si=9gdSauuMreusOLJc
He’s talking about this
😭😭😭
I’m glad Jokic isn’t fr*nch
Did Jokic say anything about ethical basketball? 🤡
it’s almost like players try and use any advantage they can to help win, that’s why the whole “ethical” shit is so funny, if a player sees a chance to flop trust me they will
It’s so funny that this has become so accepted. I actually remember when only a couple of people flopped and they were relentlessly mocked for it.
Bro this is what I was saying on another thread these guys (well most of them) want to win and will do anything for that some guys just get the rep and others don’t😂 to me it’s up to the league to stop it bc if they can’t control it players just going to keep doing it bc why not it’s an advantage more often than not
Jokic never has really sad much about other people flopping etc. That was mostly the crybaby Mike Malone and, to a lesser extent, Adelman. Saying this as an OKC fan who genuinely despises the Nuggets.
And Joker looks like a clown everytime he does it too. Refs need to stop rewarding it period. Call Wemby the same way you call TJ McConnell.
Yes and Jokic would look like a clown too if he made a comment about being an ethical player and then flopped
I don’t care about the ethical comments he made, but wow, I haven’t seen a flop that bad since the Harden/Manu explosion. He definitely needs to practice that flop game if he wants to be able to pull it off.
And even then, you don’t pull it out against the Jazz. You save it for a critical moment in the playoffs.
People are talking about how this technical doesn’t get called often, but we also don’t see flops this egregious very often. This one’s bad. At least make sure there’s some other players around you and it’s off ball, so the refs don’t have a clean view and only see it out of the corner of their eye. Nurk was holding still with the ball in his hand.
Makes that comment and immediately goes on a flopping spree. Can’t make it up lol
OP hates Wemby so bad bro look at his comment history 😂
You weren’t kidding holy crap lol
It’s so funny 😂
Bro lost one too many parleys betting on Wemby props or something. Wow man
I mean he can be hating too much but he is right here
Right message wrong messenger. But holy shit man that’s a crazy level of hate
For what it’s worth more people should hate abominations against nature. He’s simply too tall.
I mean, they should. Wemby specifically said he was going to be playing “ethical” basketball.
I don’t like when fanbases ignore instances of their own team flopping (as almost every fanbase does when their team is under the microscope for this sort of thing) but Wemby brought this on himself more than most do with a comment like that.
Shit yes
Reporting for duty.
Whatchu mean? Lololol
Dude does it way more than his stans would have you believe
ETHICAL ETHICAL ETHICAL (whatever that means)
DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS
I don’t get it
It’s a quote from the most ethical team owner of all time. We all should aspire to be more ethical like him.
Learned from CP3
Those frenchy McFrenchypants be watching that soccer.
Kylian Wembanyama
Wembappe
Merde, that’s better
Basketball is basically on Football/Soccer’s level of egregious flopping/diving
Gobert would never
he deserves a little shit for that one, ngl
I’d agree if it wasnt for his ethical gimmick. Should be clowned. But obv he’s still in the honeymoon phase of how he’s received
Listen I don’t particularly get upset about flopping or foul baiting but it is objectively hilarious that Wemby tried to make himself the face of “ethical” basketball and he flops so often.
The duality of man
The Jungian thing
Come on man 😂😂
“pure and ethical basketball”
This better get so many fucking upvotes. Ethical basketball lmao
Embarrassing
I was expected to say something like “we see worse flops daily” but yea that was bad .
he plays ethical basketball though
I really hate the NBA game sometimes.
Dude was head snapping like a mad man vs the wolves a few games ago… it was a bit much…
Once he wins more games, people are going to realize he is just a slightly taller embiid. He lives on the ground.
Like a taller less muscular embiid
I knew the hate train was coming, but I didn’t know how soon.
How long before this one gets deleted by the mods
I’m commenting to track
Euros love to flop
And whine to the refs.
Biggest whiners in the league are sengun, luka, and arguably jokic. So that checks out. The flopping in the league gets old, but i hate the whining even more.
Le basketball éthique et morale
Another angle would be better. Just wondering why someone trying to flop would get back up right away.
Do you not see nurkic cutting to the rim? He didn’t get the call so he got up to play defense
Yeah this is kinda the worst possible angle. It’s probably a flop but still you can’t tell what’s happening lol
Had to scroll WAY too far to see this. We can’t see shit from this angle.
I was scrolling looking for the same thing. Every comment acting like this is the worst flop they’ve ever seen when you literally can’t see shit.
Thunder fans out in full force. Their hypocrisy knows no bounds.
I dont care hwo much everybody loves this guy I’m not supporting a player who does this shit
It’s the NBA every star does it LMAO
ANT.
I swear, Ant fans reaching Curry fans levels of delusion when yall pretend they don’t foul bait or sometimes exaggerate contact.
Like hes never flopped that bad, but he certainly has flopped and CERTAINLY baits fouls
Every time we play the Twolves he pump fakes Chet at least 2x a game
Ayyyyyy
How confident are you that if someone goes and digs through every damn clip of Cade they can’t find one where he massively embellished contact?
Because pretty much every star has those moments.
The only reason this one is even getting attention is because it’s Victor, and the comments he made about OKC, and that happened to be the one in 1000 obvious flops that happen in the NBA before they call a technical so they can pretend they actually care about policing this stuff.
This is the most miserable sub on this entire site
That’s a high bar, but it’s probably close
Very sophisticated
That’s great ethical basketball right there
“Fuck you you’re getting a fucking embellishment”
Is this what he’s talking about when he says ethical basketball?
Unc fell from the sheer aura
Ethical my ass 😂
Been a long time coming. Wemby is a blatant flopper.
It’s ethical if you’re from europe
Ethical flopping much better than SGA
Unwatchable
His flopping game is still quite raw.
ethical
I think its time people on this sub realize maybe wemby wasnt throwing a shot at the thunder man lmao
Here’s the context if people want it
Exactly its that easy to understand lol
Nah, people just want to over read into things from a non-native speaker to fuel their hate lol
Sniper in the building lmao
So this gets called now? Hope it’ll set a precedent. Not to mention, he got up right away, to me it just looks like he tripped tbh.
I think it is likely a flop. There’s probably something happening with Nurk’s right arm that made him think he could draw an offensive foul. This angle doesn’t allow you to see anything though.
Its about time. Hes already one of the worst
I mean I get it. People flopping around him all the time looking for fouls, but my god that was aggregious lol.
he needed more time with CP3 and it shows
Ethical
Ethical basketball. I’m literally crying
I thought he was ethical?
I think it doesn’t look like a flopping because you can’t see more from this angle.
L M F A O
Not very ethical
He definitely did but holy shit would they please call this on Shai or Brunson for starters?
Is it a flop if you get up immediately? I think a man of his height and build can topple pretty easily.
“I’m glad to be apart of ethical basketball” fuck outta here
Does that make him the tallest flopper ever?
Spurs runs flop on their bloodline with Manu innovating it
Dang Mr. Ethical, what was that? 😭
Oh no, not Mr. “Ethical Hoops” 🙄thats what he gets for being a hypocrite.
Hahahaha “EtHiCaL bAsKeTbAlL”
Is this that ethical basketball I’ve heard so much about?
Are we sure he didn’t just trip over his giraffe legs?
