Funny how the narrative is shifting and people want him back on the peremiter more. His first year he kinda had full reign to go out and do whatever he wanted to try and figure it out. Last year it was obviously a gameplan for him to primarily play on the peremiter and work on his three-point shot and shot creation. The scary thing is that he’s still figuring it out. He’ll obviously be at his best when he’s truly a three-level scorer, and he’s damn near there already.

Shai had a year like that before the Thunder got really good. He was shooting a ton 3’s and step-backs. When the Thunder wanted to win, he reeled that in, but the tons on in game reps he got in real scenarios were definitely something that helped him develop even more

I thought that was what Wemby did last year, and the same thing happened with Point Sochan, even though that experiment didn’t go too well.

It’s just that, while you’re not competing and you know it, you get more out of the games doing training shit and weird rotations. E: just not the whole game, or only shoot threes. I think you get my point

Then in a couple of years Wemby won’t shoot too much, but people will have to try and contest (even if it’s almost impossible) and then he blows by. Or maybe Sochan will be a tertiary playmaker to be able to just grab a rebound and go into a set. Idk. The possibilities with this team are really infinite

Nah the game has changed man. 3s are everything and having a center who can do this breaks the opposing defense

He also gets to play balls to the wall during his shorter time on the floor. I tend to think his ambient presence on defense overall is too big of an advantage to give up, but his offense is noticeably more dialed in when he knows he has limited minutes for sure

I’m so redpilled on the idea that the real reason for the Spurs are so successful this season is Luke Kornet. Like having a real backup centre has been so amazing — last season wemby leaves the floor and we’re fucked, this season were able to let him get some rest whilst not letting anyone get ahead too much.

Plus there’s the French vanilla lineup too

That’s just his stamina I think, that and his lack of physicality which makes every contact exhausting, i’m sure it will get better over time and he will be able to play 38 min

yep, that was also around the time when he got his first triple double. the new year was really when he started ramping up in his rookie season (iirc that’s when tre jones took over the starting pg spot as well)
