[Highlight] Marcus Smart tries to throw a 2009 Lebron lob and then says “my bad GOAT”
Even 2009 Bron wouldn’t be able to catch that
Well not with that attitude.
Altitude*
well played.
High brow comedy
But low Bron comedy
I hate you guys
And at his age, not with that aptitude.
Bro 2009 Lebron 1000% yamming that shit east bay
east bay
RIP
That catalog was on par with the SI swimsuit edition in popularity at our school
My first ball shoes ever were from East bay. I’m from Canada so i ordered those and paid duties too as a broke HS student
here it’s even higher https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-kolNcY53s
First Cavs stint LeBron is the most jaw dropping athlete I’ve ever watched at any sport (I was 9 when MJ retired the second time in 98.) He just didn’t seem real.
First Cavs stint and MJ are the two most athletic non roleplayers ive ever seen. Im too young to have seen Jordan live, but all the tapes are there. They didnt have any weaknesses athletically.
That being said I think Miami LeBron gets super underrated here, its his true athletic peak and its also when he started having a reliable jumpshot. Imo miami LeBrin the most jaw dropping athlete of all time. Theres plenty of guys that can run fast and jump high, none of them were as big and strong as LeBron in Miami.
Thats a big part of the reason why theyre the top 2 players of all time, dont care who you got first theres no bad choice. We’ve never seen someone as athletic, quick and nimble as LeBron and MJ while having LeBrons strengh or MJ’s hands that allowed him to do stuff that shouldnt be possible. Theyre the 1% of the 1% of the 1%.
2012-2013 is when Miami LeBron first started having a reliable jumpshot, and even then it was still not a certainty–the Spurs would sag off him that entire Finals, including at the very end of Game 7 2013 Finals when he made the extremely clutch mid-range jump shot to effectively seal the championship. 2013-2014 felt like the first season where he really was becoming a ‘shooter’ to me. 2011-2012 he famously worked out with Hakeem in the offseason and barely took any 3s all season, opting to focus on post moves and frenzied trapping defense (that was my favorite LeBron season of the four!)
The crazy part is peak athleticism MJ was late 80s and he didn’t win shit. His 3 peats were after he lost a bit of it, especially the 2nd one, and had to round out his game more.
MJ’s getting buff and changing his playstyle had a lot to do with that. After being bullied by the Pistons for three playoffs in a row (and many regular season games) MJ hit the gym hard in the off-season before 91.
For the small sacrifice to his athleticism, if you wanna consider it that way, he shaped himself into what we could consider MJ Prime.
Stronger than your guards, faster than your bigs, could jump higher than pretty much anyone, had insane strength, agility and endurance. Oh yeah, and he was an ironman to boot.
During the first threepeat, he only missed 6 games. Six total games across 3 seasons. While averaging 38 minutes a game. Second threepeat HE DIDN’T MISS a single game and he averaged the same number of minutes. Load management be damned.
Dude was just different. We won’t see another one like him.
His whole career is just fairytale and it couldnt be more perfect so I doubt ill ever be able to call someone else the greatest of all time.
The thing is he bulked up and was still the most athletically gifted guy in the league. Ant on steroids. Same with LBJ in miami tbh. Bulked up and was still fadter and more athletic than anyone else.
Honestly, the craziest thing is that he wasn’t the most athletically-gifted player on the Bulls. That was actually Pippen. Jordan’s work ethic, focus and competitiveness were the difference, but there were drills they did that Pippen could do and Jordan couldn’t. There was an off-the-backboard-from-out-of-bounds dunk they used to try; Jordan could only do it on one side of the hoop, IIRC; Pippen could do it on both sides with either hand.
Can you explain this cuz idk how that dunk is possible without hitting your head
I think the reference for it is in Playing for Keeps, maybe, or Bull Run: The Story of the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls. Maybe the only thing Jordan himself acknowledges Pippen was better at is dunking left-handed.
88-91 Jordan is his three year peak for me. He had the jump shot but still had the insane athleticism too. Plus he’d filled out and had strength to go with it. He had very obviously lost a step in the last three-peat but was even stronger and just adjusted without too much decline. That’s one of the most impressive things is that he was able to go from the hyper athletic wing to the bigger and more deliberate wing who relied even more on footwork.
Fastest and most explosive leaper was Cavs first stint
But he put on sooo much weight in Miami and retained 90% of the explosiveness and 85% of the first step but was able to bully almost any player in the league. To me that’s peak. Yes he’s a little less quick and the leaping is a touch less, but when only like three players in the league don’t go flying when they try to guard him the other losses are worth it.
The limited videos of Bill Russell from back then make him also look insanely athletic. Although not competing in the Olympics for the high jump, he was ranked as the 7th highest jumper in the world.
Shaq was on that level until he got fat
Ever see Vince Carter jump over a giant French guy?
terrifying
Jesus jumped on one foot too
bionic left leg
Craziest thing about this clip is if the Portland defender doesn’t make contact with Lebron while he’s in the air, there’s a real chance he makes the reverse jam and it becomes the dunk highlight to end all dunk highlights.
I think about this one and the potential dagger dunk over Draymond in 2016 finals g7 a lot.
Wemby might have caught it
not in 2009
That lob was for Jamario Moon.
Great reference. Dam those cavs teams were so booty
Now THATs a name I havent heard in a while. Great pull
Would’ve been a tiny 6 2 then
big if true
Maybe in 2030
09 probably jumps for it and passes it while he jumps out of bounds but yeah he ain’t dunking it off that pass
Are you actually serious? Maybe that’s an camera angle issue but pre-heat Lebron absolutely couldve gone up for that. Complete the oop maybe but he’s definitely passing it out in the air
Yeah, i’m pretty sure that was a [whatever year Space Jam remake came out] LeBron lob.
You don’t know 09 Bron
He honestly mightve been able to
All of the aliens from space jam wouldn’t be able to catch that
As Chick Hearn used to say, not even King Kong on a ladder could’ve caught that
Could Wemby?
He sure as hell would have tried though.
DONT SAY THAT YES HE WOULD HAVE
Yes the hell he would have
That’s a lob even prime yao ming would struggle to catch
Lol 2009 bron aint catching that. Heck even prime wilt aint catching that man. Sometimes smart moves like he is drunk on the court.
Bruh did you watch the game where he had a wide open fast break layup against the suns and instead of taking it decided to do a backwards no-look pass to a Suns player. That shit was so atrocious it single handedly deflated the momentum of a 20-point lead to a close game and nearly lost the game. Dude is a menace
Yeah
He has one to two of those every other game. It’s crazy coming from a vet
Cant tell you how much I miss him on the Cs. You take the bad with the good with Marcus
Defensive player of the year btw
Should have been timelord
That’s my Celtics Marcus Smart, bro has been that player his whole career
I love his tenacity. He’s made diving for the ball an art but man is it a two way street.
His final season with udoka was only time he was totally restrained and was amazing he was doing all sorts of jokic like one touch waterpolo passes i don’t think he’s gonna be that way again
I mean is it impossible that he drinks before and during games? I’ll bet half of this sub is drunk at work right now. Scrolling reddit on the clock.
The only reason I don’t think that’s true is that the amount of people on here who don’t have jobs and, of those that do, the amount of people who have MLK Jr day off probably drops it to below 50% of the sub. But if you post this tomorrow you might be right lmao
I’m starting to question if he’s as smart as his name.
You’d need to stack LeBron on Wilt’s back to catch that.
2009 bron is growing wings and catching that bro
Idk, is it really that much higher than this one? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-kolNcY53s
It is different though cuz bron had time to speed up and takeoff to catch that. In this case lebron literally has to jump on the spot to catch it. U need to have an insane vert to catch that.
Yeah good point
Marcus Smart has a 2% chance of doing the dumbest shit you’ve ever seen on any given possession
That’s it? Seems like he’s trimmed down on The Marcus Smart Experience!
It’s not just 2%, I would say it’s more like 5%, but if they’re letting him cook it skyrockets to 20%
After hitting a 3 it spikes for the next 10 subsequent possessions before reverting to normal. There’s levels to it.
man good times
98% Marcus Smart, 2% Marcus Dumb
100% reason to remember the name.
Way higher than that
20% chance of a highlight play, 25% chance shaqtin a fool.
As a Heat fan playing the Celtics, I was always hoping Smart would make like his first two 3’s, knowing he’s going to keep chucking for the rest of the game and eventually shoot his team out of it.
2% chance of doing the dumbest shit you’ve ever seen
more like 20% tbh, it would also go up to at least 50% after he scored a three
“Fuck it, LeBron up there somewhere” 😂
Marcus not so Smart for you!
I fucking love Marcus lmao when Rob Williams was doing media availability his rookie or sophomore year with us he mentioned an un-named backcourt guy who would just tell him to “jump higher next time” when he missed a lob
First thing I thought of was “that’s a Rob lob”
Rob is still so fucking springy even after all the injuries too.
I know the stats don’t really show it, but Rob in 2022 was one of the most exciting Celtics players I’ve witnessed.
I think this LeBron might have a chance
lol whenever i see that jersey i think of the knicks
JFC
One of the most physically insane things I’ve seen a human being do. Almost looks like a comic book.
It looks extra freaky because that jumping Blazers player pushes his arm upwards and gives him a bit of a boost.
thought of this immediately when i was checking the comments, glad youve got us covered lol
What the hell is even that????
Bronny chill
Moment where you know exactly what the clip will be before you see it.
Gravity let go of Bron for a moment in that one.
This just keeps redirecting me to an ad
Pisses me off he never entered the dunk contest
lol lebron was sealing for the drop off pass, did he expect LeBron to go straight vertical and yam it instead?
That’s a 2009 Dwight Howard lob if anything
And he’d still have to catch, regather himself, then dunk it.
And what a dunk it would be
God Orlando Dwight was my favorite player. Just dunking and blocking the shit out of everything.
You can’t blame Smart. He watched Space Jam 2 the previous night.
You can blame him for watching Space Jam 2.
I read “Im not Vangoat”
Marcus out there just trying shit.
It’s probably in LeBron’s contract that his teammates must call him “goat” at all times.
Why is LeBron even in, up 18 with 2 min left
Because this team sucks ass and would’ve blown the lead with him & Luka on the bench
You want your 41 year old player to rest when he can
Yeah and the comment you replied to just explained why he couldn’t.
They were up 18 and Toronto scored 13 the entire quarter. What do you think it was the LeBron defense. And I’m a Laker fan
18 points in 2 minutes isn’t happening unless the refs want it to. Let unc get some rest lmao
They had just scored to get to 18 and got a stop after. Starters were benched like immediately after this
he was confused
He needs to keep breaking the scoring record
only wilt catchin that shi 😭🙏🏿
Look, I love me some MS, but last night he threw about 4 WILDLY INACCURATE lob passes.
Marcus, if youre reading this, please just chill 🙏🏽
Only Wemby could have thrown that down
That’s a lob for Robert Wadlow
Goodness that was high
Reminds of the LeBron lob to Melo
Smart was throwing random lobs all game long. He also had some for Vando which ended horribly.
This is pretty funny, lol.
Coen Carr sends his regards
2009 bron would need a running start to even have a chance at throwing that down😭
I like smart but you definitely have to expect 1 or 2 not so smart plays a game from him lol
Marcus Smart is the Manny Ramirez of basketball
Needed womb lebron
Calling him Goat is next level glazing
bad lobs make for great dunks
i am willing to take that risk
Maaaaan I ain’t going up for that.
I be saying the same thing after turning it over in pick up because the ball slipped on a pass
how cringe that Klutch get these guys to call LeBron ‘GOAT’….shameful, but not as shameful as calling yourself that.
that’s sarcastic 😂
So glad this guy was shipped off of Celtics. Seems like a solid guy but is just dumb.
“My bad, Unc. Forgot how old you are now.”
Smart is one of the dumbest players in the world.
Thats just a terrible lob. Maybe 2009 Lebron retrieves that, but I can’t think of too many people finishing that.
Marcus I. Smart. The I stands for “Isn’t”
Don’t tell me he spends as much money on his body as he does and he won’t yam it like he knows he still can. Why even play.
I always said the Celtics wouldnt win a championship if Smart is on the team. The Celtics traded him and the next season they win the championship. Im so glad he’s gone. So overrated.
Marcus Dumb
Still can’t believe they gave a DPOY to this guy.
He was fucking nasty defensively. That’s why lol. Could guard 7 footers and 6 footers.
Not sure what this passing highlight has to do with that
Throws a bad lob to LeBron then calls out to the ethos to, Michael Jordan?, of all people. Weird.
You probably mean ether/aether
If there’s a doctor, DrwormPhD or otherwise, anywhere in the universe that writes a stroke-inducing jumble of words like that ⬆️ I’ll eat my own dick, uncooked. I’ll raw dog it.
