because he sandbagged and pouted when he came off the bench his last two seasons with us. he played significantly harder and was much more engaged in the games that he got to start. this is a BAD thing. he should have been destroying opposing benches in the games where he came off the bench, based on how he was performing as a starter, but he was clearly playing more for himself than for the team.
