Rookie Amari Williams Sighting in the 4th Quarter
My favorite thing about Joe: his garbage time challenges & the respect he has to coach all of his players equally for 48 minutes.
Would be cool if he develops into a decent top of the key big for us. He’s shown the skillset we need from him in Maine and small stints with Boston.
He still has some work to do, even in Maine. His post play needs more work, specifically in taking the ball up. He tends to present a weak shot that releases from his shoulder area (rather than getting the ball up and strong) when he has contact. He sometimes feels like he’s being careful instead of strong.
His hands are a conundrum to me. He dribbles well for a big, and passes really well, but his hands when receiving the ball can be iffy.
He definitely needs to develop in the post to ever have a chance at serious minutes. The stuff he does do well is way harder to teach, though.
He doesn’t really play with a PG at Maine who can set him up. Shugla is a combo guard. Amari is their best passer, and their offense is best when he is facilitating it.
The Celtics need to know what they have in him before the off season.
Do they? He’s a second round draft pick. I wouldn’t hope our offseason is not impacted by him at all.
He’s a stud, he’s rob 2.0 with developed playmaking already
I assume this is sarcasm.
Rob would have been a top 15 center in the league if he wasn’t getting injured constantly. He was just developing his playmaking before we traded him, he averaged 2 assists per game from 2020-2023 with us playing only 24 minutes a game. Amari Williams is bigger Rob, he’s 7 feet tall and he already has playmaking chops
This is an absurd analysis. We all know how good Rob was.
Rob fell to us in the first round due to injury concerns. The talent levels aren’t comparable. Why are you even comparing him to Timelord? Why not compare him to Kornet or Queta? Or Tacko?
Amari is a bigger Rob? Why not just say he’s a bigger Lebron?
Because he is a massive lob threat who can run the floor and play make. He’s had multiple triple doubles in the G-League.
Sounds like LeBron.
That’s fine. I just don’t think we need to figure out what we have in him this season.
You’re right. But Brad and the staff do need to know the role he will play on the big team next season, when he could potentially be the back up center. If that’s the case, that’s one more option and adds to flexibility, but right now no one knows if his potential can translate. I still see this season as a really long preseason so I hope to see him get a little more run in the second half in non garbage time minutes against rotational nba players.
Rob Williams lite?
Oh man I hope so.
Rob Williams is still so Elite. When he gets to play on Portland he’s still an absolute monster.
If only he had knees. He’d be in a conversation. Idk which conversation… probably Bam’s. but for sure a conversation would be had.
He should be getting more minutes on this team!
I want to see more of him he could be something special. He can play make and block. Given reps I think he could become a timelord value piece.
Plus he’s a 🇬🇧 so I automatically root for him.
Did Joe need to challenge the goal tend? A lot of coaches probably would not have at that point in the game. But that one move says to Williams that Joe believes he made a great block. That is what sets this team apart, and will make them a permanent fixture as a top contender in the league.
Other than the block in the clip how did Amari do? Couldn’t watch the game
Pretty average. Needs more time to figure things out but good reads in short roll.
Anyone else feel really bad for Chris Boucher
Not at all. I’ll feel bad for young guys that don’t get minutes behind vets, like PP previously. But Boucher isn’t stuck behind top talent and waiting for his chance.
Yeah but he signed here because it looked there would be minutes for him in the offseason nd now he can’t even get on the court in a 40 point blowout. Might be it for him and Tillman after this season and I think they’re both good people
I think Tillman is gonna turn into Haslem-lite for us. On an interpersonal level X lowkey seems like everyone’s favorite.
wasn’t he listed as out with a back injury?
Did not know he went to Drexel last night until I heard it on the broadcast.
Amari looks really promising… still needs to work on his technical skills but the vision, size and rebounding is there, man…. sign this man!!
Dude is huge holy shit
Not only that, Amari is mobile too
Some questionable reads but I wish they would play him more. They could use him. If he could step up and they could keep Simons that’s the best outcome.
It isn’t clear that they could use him. They could use another good big. But he might be well below replacement value at this point.
What he brings is rim protection and mobility as a big. His current production is short of what they need but if developed more aggressively and given minutes to learn his potential to fill a need is there.
You sound like a lot of people who thought Queta wouldn’t be up to a starting role. You have to look at the strengths and decide if the player has the motor and IQ to fix the weakness. Judging exclusively by current production is a bad way to coach/GM.
Edit: you are right. It isn’t clear yet, but it isn’t a reason not to find out.
