After a 23-9 start the Knicks go 2-8 in their last 10 to be 25-17
Does this recent play sound the alarms or call for a major shakeup in the roster? The Knicks defense has not been up to par.
the cavs have been shitted on all year and theyre only 1.5 games back of the knicks
I’m thankful for this comment.
Tbf they’ve had different timelines of sucking
just took a 2-8 stretch instead of being consistently “meh” most of the season.
yeah but you gotta allow the knicks hate to flow through now, cavs got their due earlier because they sucked, earlier.
Well yeah that’s what happens when the other team goes 2-8 lol. I guess if the OKC goes 2-8 and Spurs go 8-2, they get the 1 seed
They’re learning from the Yankees with their mid season slump
It’s right in front of us
God willing this isnt it but these polarized chunks of fhe szn are giving me ‘25 Mets flashbacks and id rather not
Dude that fucking sucked last year I do not want to deal with that shit again
I’m gonna say they should make a move, because something just feels off right now and that thing is KAT
aren’t they already all in. I don’t think they can upgrade. maybe a side-grade that makes it a better fit?
Nothing we can really do honestly.
Bring in Skattebo to improve the vibes
A Skattebo screen will kill someone
Other than maybe flip Yabusele for something or do something to get a defender
Yabusele, Dadiet, and that Wizards first rounder that will likely be two second rounders are the main things they’re sniffing around for reportedly. Just a question of what they can get for that.
Unless Giannis pushes the big red button, which supposedly is holding up the entire market.
Yeah cause if he says “I want out” the market resets and it becomes an arms race and no one is safe
The Trae trade set the market pretty low. Giannis wanting out will set the price on every player stupid high again.
Quite frankly, Yabu shouldn’t even be in the league right now. And I’m not being hyperbolic. He’s been that bad.
Obviously they are going to try, but I don’t think you can expect the Knicks to get any game changers given the assets we have currently.
I know the rumor mill is they’re looking at Alvarado from the Pelicans, but I don’t know if he’s much of a game changer
I think his energy, on ball defense, and general vibes would do a lot for the team. A lot of it is internal and mental, so the idea that one bench guy would fix all that is a bit much. But the team’s biggest weaknesses are point of attack defense and a secondary ball handler, and I think Alvarado gets you both of those things.
Team is in a mental funk and I want more guys like Hart who just go out there and fuck stuff up, which is why I’ve been pushing for Alvarado for months.
Making a move for a guy like that is probably the best thing to do because so much of the struggles really feels like the vibes are just off with the Hart injury and all of a sudden the shots just can’t fall
It’s also just in line with the philosophy of how the team has operated.
2021 - picked up D Rose mid year and it put them on a solid run for the rest of the year into the 4 seed
2022 - tried to do it with Cam Reddish but that season just fell apart and Thibs never liked Reddish
2023 - traded for Hart mid season, we see how much that has meant for them
2024 - traded for OG mid season, obviously one of the best players on the team
2025 - chose not to after making so many moves in the offseason and instead trusted Mitchell Robinson to be their mid year acquisition
This front office loves their mid year, fix the vibes trades.
Thibs didn’t like Reddish because Reddish is trash. But we can’t dare criticize The Wizard of MSG so it’s Thibs fault he couldn’t get production from a guy averaging 3.2 ppg this season despite playing with Luka and Bron. Not your point but some Knicks fans will give themselves flesh wounds with the contortions they make to take a potshot at Thibs, it’s ridiculous. You won, he’s gone, and the monkey paw is undefeated…
I wouldn’t be shocked if most teams do that because of both the aprons but also since it’s an odd year and vibes might be the wat
Yeah like it or not this is what the Knicks are playing with
Who’s going to take that contract in this current cba landscape though.
Some chucklefuck will be convinced they can fix him
Ever since Hart put his thumb up Brunson’s ass.
The ol’ Thumb In The Ass Curse
it gets them every time
Seems like every team that went to Vegas for the Cup has had a (relatively) crap month of basketball since.
They got a case of the In-Season Tournament curse
Every team that won the IST lost a bunch of games in the months following their win
Now we know it isn’t a Darvin Ham curse
You’re right, it was actually terrorism
Doesn’t matter NBA CUP CHAMPS BABY. The real championship all along.
Down by 7 with 90 seconds to go, kat wide open at 3, has all day to shoot it and ends up airballing. Was laughing so hard.
I also laughed but unfortunately it was through tears.
Shit like this is why I laugh when people try and justify the Mikal trade because the quality of the picks are gonna be so low.
I’m a die hard Brooklyn fan and trust me when I say when you buy your championship core you don’t have the same window an organically built team does.
When your completely all in on a few guys salary wise all it takes is one thing to happen for it to all fall apart. Like people haven’t even started talking about how Kat is gonna be a negative asset. The wolves traded him away to get off his money. He was traded for a brink all star and a role player. That was before the new cba
A 2 time all NBA player is not a brink all star.
Ranldle only has one less all NBA than KAT and actually made the second team.
Wolves fans won the trade miss you like hell dubious handles
The thing about the Knicks situation is that for us, this is THE team and this is THE year. Rotation players are all in their absolute primes, other than maybe Deuce and Kolek(and they aren’t kids; both mid-20s). We don’t really have the assets for any more big moves without massively changing the team and going for a star or moving on a major part of the rotation. The East will also never be easier. Indy is out, Boston is down a star, Detroit is strong but still young and unproven, Cavs might have already peaked, Philly is relying on young dudes + Embiid’s knees, Bucks could fall apart any day, Orlando+Toronto don’t seem like serious contenders. It’s imperative that this team get their act together and finish in the top two spots. Going into the season, this was probably the best “chance” (in terms of how things were viewed before the start) we’ve had of making the Finals and winning a title since ‘94-‘95. Can’t waste it playing this way.
Well this team needs to get on it soon cause they could easily slip down the standings
AH you seemed to have failed to mention the dark horse contender.
Step aside, the time of the buzz has come .
(we totally didn’t give up 136 to the Warriors tonight, don’t check the score)
I never liked the idea of KAT with this team, not saying it’s his fault but just never felt it was a good fit when they seemed like a much more physical team in the past few seasons
Yeah the KAT trade never sat right with me either. It felt like the Knicks made a move just to say they made a move.
I agree. Just never was fully on board with his fit around Brunson. He’s a good player but didn’t feel like a fit for the Knicks with the pieces they have
It’s wasn’t a move to make a move, it was a move cause Randle was going to be out for like a month or 2, and we didn’t have a center we would trust, the bigs rotation would have been Jericho sims and I think a rookie Hukporti? I didn’t like it cause I felt we lost too much size and our rebounding would be worse. but it is what it is
I miss the Donte Randle Hartenstein trio.
Those 3 with Brunson and OG made us deadly. Hartenstein enabled Brunson; KAT doesn’t do anything for him
yeesh
The type of thoughts a second loss to the suns will give you
Towns is proving in these last few games that he just isn’t that guy.
Hey same as us, 7th seed in the west!
fuck this conference bruh
Injuries aren’t helping and the curse of the in-season tournament might be real, but this team needs depth in the worst way possible
Mikal for PJ Washington + fillers in offseason is so obvious man
From trading 5 firsts to that package would be incredibly depressing.
depends on the filler
tbf their salary fillers back then is expiring bojan iirc? so it’s pure 5 FRP with most of that will be really late FRP. overpay but imo not by much
PJ locked for 4 years at 20m will demand at least 2 FRP too in open market, maybe plus swap. rare skillsets, basically budget Aaron Gordon and i think knicks roster match made in heaven for him on both ends (PJ will cover KAT while feast inside offensively with KAT spacing)
i think Mikal for PJ + Caleb + Hardy + future FRP, not way far off with his value before
Do Mavs fans really think PJ fucking Washington is worth 2 first round picks? Are yall that delusional? Maybe 3 years ago and even then it’s doubtful. This is the new CBA where no team is throwing around first round picks all Willy nilly. A 27 year old all star PG who puts up 20⁄10 just went for expiring contract and a role player with zero picks. In what planet is PJ going for 2 first round picks?
for contender? yes. game of supply and demand. jack of all trades big wing is hard to get than one way small PG, especially doubled the salary
27yo, 22m AAV next 4yrs, 6’7 with 7’2 wingspan modern PF built, can guard 1-5, rebound, can shoot, put the ball on the floor, low usage, playing physical, intangibles? yes
i want him stay, but its redundant with flagg (and naji to extend)
PJ Washington is not going for 2 first round picks. Just stop being delusional.
Eh lets see
If expiring he wont. 22m AAV next 4 years that make his value rise up
Why would Thibs do this?
As a Kings fan who was pretty happy to see brown get fired, I have spent a lot of time watching the Knicks this year to see if it was suffering from copium, and I honestly don’t think I was.
Browns just not a great coach. I think he is a great culture setter and stabilizer but I find his lineups and prep bad. It also feels like vet players always end up fighting with him.
Imagine being an East conference favorite that’s hit a rough patch. Losers!
Knicks trying to keep their 28 year playoff streak alive.
Nearly 3 decades now, every 50 win season has ended the same.
Playoff loss to the Pacers.
The Mike Brown experience
They are in the East they will be ok
If they were in the west they would be in play in territory
I would cry or something but Coach Brown is working tons of lineups that Thibs would NEVER EVER EVER even slightly consider playing. The amount of data being gathered and young players getting minutes is a benefit at this moment. At least in my eyes.
I agree, even if we’re losing I like seeing things being tried out. Getting minutes for our bench will be worth it in the playoffs, hopefully.
Beautiful
Just fck my sht up
Were the lakers of the east
Mike Brown is going to get fired after next season
holding on to my delusion that some trade happens before the Feb deadline that includes KAT and Giannis
Knicks are so cooked
It was only going down after some fan knicks account on X said theyre coming for Detroit spot. That they matter at all but shit do be funny.
This would not be happening under Thibs. Firing him was the wrong move. And so was the Kat trade
The kat trade wasn’t the wrong move, we got to the ecf with that trade and the Mikal trade. They beat the champs ffs. Randle and ddv don’t do that. They don’t even get past the pistons.
Hot take: they should move both KAT and Brunson
KAT is a mid big in today’s game. I don’t think that’s too controversial to say.
Brunson is good (especially on that contract), but he’s got that trae young thing going on where you got to build perfectly around him to make it work.
NY should stock up on picks while they can. Potential is waning by the minute.
they should’ve never traded for kat to begin with, completely tanked their chances of being a serious championship contender
Eh not that I disagree but hindsight is 20⁄20, imo the bridges trade is the one that they really shouldn’t have done
bridges was an overpay but he’s not holding them back nearly as much as having kat does. i didn’t really get it at the time and it makes less sense now
The Bridges trade was incredibly stupid. If you trade 5 firsts for a player it should be a 30 PPG superstar. Someone like, say…. Giannis?
the bridges trade was bad in terms of assets given up but mikal fits much better than brunson does
Lol come on brother.
Getting rid of Brunson is crazy, the Knicks have a top 3 offense solely because of him, look how useless KAT and Bridges are without a star guard out there.
Trae Young would have offset his defensive deficiencies if he was hitting 3’s and drawing fouls like in his earlier years. Jalen Brunson has been elite offensively so I don’t really think you can compare their current situations. Also Knicks have OG Hart and Bridges to cover JB’s deficiencies (though I’ve heard their defense has not been to the elite level that people expected, still good)
The slump is really two pronged: Hart went down with an injury and the shots are just not falling at all. The other issue is KAT has been truly awful for most of the year and his fouls are worse when he sucks
And trae young didn’t make it work in his earlier years either. Exactly what Im saying.
Ah yes making ECF is not making it work, got it. Also Brunson being more efficient than any Trae Young year is more of a testament that their situations are incomparable.
Knicks made the ECF last year gang, then lost. Literally proving my point lmao. It’s the same situation.
