The believers got catfished. I think it was pretty reasonable for us skeptics to immediately call bullshit on “special contributor”. Some people are blaming MJ, which I can’t find any logic in. This was obviously just NBC being scummy.

overpromised and underdelivered on the MJ bit. I do think that the NBA on NBC/Peacock has been excellent this season, aside from this one blemish. I enjoy the coast-to-coast broadcasts with the sideline separate 3 man booth commentating.

I agree I thought he was going to be talking about more current events , and more takes on the current game . Instead we’re getting a walk down memory lane most of the time. It’s like an extended piece of the last dance . I thought he would even participate in calling games a little similar to Brady for the nfl , but that was definitely wishful thinking I guess . They knew what they were doing when they announced it though people definitely expected more .

Michael Jordan is better appreciated on the court anyway. Off the court either as a GM, gambler, normal human terms - he’s not exactly fine wine.

IMHO He doesn’t really want to criticize or come off as critical to a lot of players. People still look up to him and idolize him.

This is exactly what I expected. When it was announced they kept the details about his role so ambiguous that I knew it was going to be some bs.

They said early on his participation would be derived from an interview he did, so it makes sense all we see are clips from said interview.

In the NFL, they’re trying to parade Tom Brady around now and it’s awful.

In the NHL, Gretzky does some segments for TNT and they’re absolutely terrible. Same when Messier does anything for ESPN.

Let people who were great players just be great players. They don’t all need to be talking heads post retirement.

Yes, I do think NBC oversold the role. But then again, that’s what any company would do to create hyped and interest, so though compared to the end result it seems bad and it is, I understand the approach, though I don’t agree with it.

Yes, expectations were unrealistic, but considering it’s one of if not the best player ever to a lot of people, who could be blame people to have such expectations. Considering who he is, what he’s done and his overall knowledge, you’d imagine he’d take advantage of such an opportunity for him to voice his opinions and advice.

No, legends don’t need to be doing any of that, but it is hugely appreciate it if done right. Taking a peek into their insight is always interesting to paint the picture of what they see and experience and the reasons as to why and how they have such insight. Living up to the hype is on a case by case scenario. Some people are great players, but not great at communicating their opinion on in an interesting and understandle way, or their opinion is just bad and you rather never have known, just kept with the enjoyment of their play and nothing more.

I don’t know why anyone would get their hopes up that a billionaire who wasn’t able to be an effective owner, and famously leaned into neutrality with his Republicans buy shoes too philosophy, and hasn’t played in nearly 30 years was going to offer up anything exciting

I think it was portrayed like it would be more him breaking things down and relative to that it was disappointing but once I saw the first one my expectations were low enough that I just stopped caring.

Jordan absolutely doesn’t “need” to do this. If he does it, it’s because he wants to give it a try out of interest in it.

Jordan is doing the right thing by staying away from analysis, appearances, live TV, etc.

It still baffles me that anyone’s surprised by Jordan being useless when it comes to analyzing basketball. It’s that way with almost all “legends”. They never want to tarnish that legacy, so they never say anything interesting or controversial. Or they just weren’t that interesting to begin with.

NBC knew that people would be so excited about Jordan joining their team - they told a few white lies and its cost them - big.

The entire NBA on NBC production has been a letdown to me. They bastardized the iconic theme. They have mid announcers. The matchups are usually bad. Nothing about it brings back the nostalgia of the the original NBA on NBC. And worst part is it took away NBA on TNT and idgaf that inside the NBA is still on air at ESPN, it feels like they are on way less often and are way harder to catch versus when they were at TNT

I was hoping he’d “interact” with the game, younger players and fans. I knew it’d be something non-controversial and I don’t want to see him out there like Barkley but I was hoping he’d talk about the game and the players at least.

I think that NBC will really kickoff its coverage once the NFL season ends. Once that happens we will see more of MJ. Whether that’s a good thing or not is to be determined.

I think its the expectations that people created in their head. If anyone followed Jordan’s career and post basketball career you would know that publicly you would never get anything like what you were expecting with Jordan. NBC came to him, gave him a payday, he said sure if you want to just give me money for a few sentences why not.

Jordan’s the best basketball player I’ve ever seen play the game but really don’t get why people care about his analysis of the game? You’ll never get what you want to hear.

Right from the first day when they played that 3 minutes clip of his, I realised that they were going to be milking his interview over an extended period of time. But I had at least hoped that there would be multiple interviews at various points in the season. The fact that it is going to be just a single interview, filmed in pre-season, and we get zero actual insight on what he thinks about the players/teams in this year’s NBA is super disappointing.

It’s about what I expected, I didn’t really think it’d be very interesting or entertaining. It’s also barely even a thing, a considerable amount of people probably haven’t even seen him because the segments are so short and spread out.

It’s like a continuation of his former career as a team owner, rather than a player. Would be nice to see him be good at something post-playing. It sure isn’t this.

MJ is an introvert and a billionaire. He likes to keep a low profile and he doesn’t need the money. Of course NBC is gonna use their access to him for marketing purposes. I agree. I don’t know what they’re thinking. Why does it have to be an interview situation? I was thinking he would be at games or do a halftime report or something the way that Chuck, Shaq and those guys do. I saw mention of him doing news type role 5 days a week like Stephen A., and I did NOT see that. I was really looking forward to hearing Jordan’s live analysis and thoughts on the game today in that sense, not just an interviewer circling around the question of “who’s the greatest?”

I’m gonna be honest what did you expect? As much as you and I wanted it to be Jordan’s gambling corner each and every nbc game, Jordan has largely stayed away from the media unless it’s on his terms. It was always gonna be limited thing.

My guess is he’s only actually going to be on the broadcast live during the playoffs.

I haven’t even seen it, but Jordan’s public appearances have always been really careful curated and bland by design. He’s actually an interesting guy but most of what would make him entertaining and interesting wouldn’t be a good look for his brand. He’s an asshole.
