Unpopular opinion I guess, but I think he is going to leave in the near future. It might be in the offseason, and the Bucks can have a bidding war then – so not necessarily right now. But I’d be somewhat surprised if he doesn’t leave after this season, barring a massive midseason turnaround in the Bucks’ performance.
It’s sad bc I’d love for Giannis to be a “whole career with 1 team” guy, for the sake of Bucks fans – but given how terrible the team is playing, I don’t think Giannis will be content with more wasted seasons while he’s still an elite player.
He probably *wants* to, but I don’t see it being feasible for any contender to EVER be able to trade for him, and he’s not going to accept going to a tanking team. Unless the Bucks just accept a mid return (they won’t) there’s not much that can be done.
There’s simply been way too much info coming out about his desire to play somewhere else for it to all be bullshit. It would require a team to get more than $50M below the salary cap, and have very few ways to add new players to a roster they was stripped down enough to have that much cap space. But very rarely is it a true free agent signing into cap space.
