The hawks have been objectively better when CJ is on the court. If you were a tanking team prioritizing young guys getting shots up then I could understand the frustration, but as a team actually trying to make the playoffs, this just sounds like finding someone to scapegoat.

i’ve always given cj shit for not taking enough 3s (dude’s a 40% shooter from 3 whose almost never got above league average true shooting) but if he’s gonna shoot 11% there i guess it’s good he’s not taking more

CJ needs to just be the offensive engine when JJ is out. 3pt shooting will regress to the mean, I’m not concerned but playing them at the same time wastes offensive potential and puts the team in a bad spot on defense. Tweaking the lineup should fix this issue.

doesn’t feel like a coincidence that every team has a small crisis in January. it’s the NBA regular season even the best teams have blips and get tired depending on the schedule etc. also would wait to let the guys have at least 10-20 games together before drawing sweeping conclusions about their fit and whether dudes are committed to the team lol

Seriously, maybe that’s the reason for the trade, for him to lead the tank for this strong draft class. Like they likely believe Trae’s none defense can tank too, but after the year’s end, Trae walks unless they extend him, which they don’t want to. With CJ, at least they get an expiring.

Thing with in-season trade is that everyone takes time adjusting to new additions. I’d give like 10 games before evaluating.

I feel the same about Trae with Wizards, they’ll probably shut him down to tank or play like 5 games. That’s not enough sample to say this will work. If they signed Trae long term without seeing it and it doesn’t work, Wizards will be screwed.

Too early to tell. I think the Hawks will adjust fine. They looked fine without Trae and now despite Mccollum being ball dominant, they should get settled sooner thatn later. They run a greeeeeeeeat offense.

is Snyder on the hot seat yet? probably not officially. but if this continues and the offense keeps looking this disjointed with players clearly not buying in then yeah, the questions get loud fast. this doesn’t look like a team that knows who it’s trying to be right now, and that’s usually where coaching scrutiny starts.

Idk if it’s a coaching decision or what but ages aside, there’s no reason for CJ to defer to JJ. And I say this as a fan of Jalen. They basically have the same resume but CJ has had multiple playoff runs & years averaging over 20. Idk if he plans to get traded again or bought out but if not, just hope they build chemistry relatively quickly or Snyder starts drawing up better schemes. CJ can run the point but he’s not a facilitator like Trae so him taking the back seat to get JJ, Zach, Dyson, etc. easier looks likely isn’t happening any time soon

This is probably how he’d play for Washington as their primary offense, will take him some time to fit what Atlanta want from him I feel
