He’s putting up crazy stats in 20-25 minutes of play
Insane
Apparently he’s “mid” offensively though
He is not mid offensively but he is still raw and that’s really scary
can anyone define what it means for a player to be offensively raw?
It means that their skills are still unpolished but that there is a lot of potential to be found for the future.
ok nevermind thanks
That’s because people only look at points per game
He’s scoring 24 in 29 minutes what
Lol I agree with you. But some people think he’s not great offensively because they see he “only” scores 24 per game not realizing it’s on a minutes restriction
Maybe my brain hasn’t adjusted to scoring going up but 24 a game at regular superstar minutes still seems like a lot to me
Who said that
You would be surprised
he’s not “mid” he’s “raw” for someone that talented. and that’s fine, he’s still young. he’s a fucking basketball demigod
I stayed out of that conversation earlier but I think raw is stretching the limits of that word.
Yeah he’s not fully developed but I think raw isnt the right word.
Just people being silly. His first two seasons were raw. This year there is quite a noticeable difference in how he’s playing
I think people are now just using it as in “he still has room to grow”. Which isn’t really what raw means, but that’s what they’re saying.
Exactly this.
Caruso misused it and now everyone’s following suit or got the cosign they needed to continue saying it.
A lot of Spurs fans have been saying it even before.
Medium Rare
I can’t believe how many people here are calling him raw 😂
Honestly it’s really hard to describe him you know? Because some games he looks like a polished 6 level scoring demon who can’t be stopped, and other games he looks like an untested rookie who’s afraid to push the ball. He’s in his third season though so there’s no real concern because the first 4 years are a settlement period anyway
He’s still inconsistent which is why he’s not yet elite offensively. He’s hovering around very good to great
I think saying he’s not polished yet is the most appropriate. He’s still one of the better offensive players in the league idk why people are calling him mid in that regards. He’s just still a little sloppy but all it takes is reps and he will clean them up I’m sure of it
Raw offense to me is someone like Tidjane Salaun or Carter Bryant. Wemby is averaging 24 points per game while playing most of his games in minutes restrictions. His jumpers and threes have improved immensely. It’s just he hasn’t found a way to counter physical defense and double teams yet. That is not raw.
Yeah. Far from polished but definitely not raw. Maybe Caruso is placing him to the likes of Jokic or Giannis. In that case, yeah Wemby is raw compared to those dudes, but he’s not straightup “raw”. Nobody raw average 24 points on a massive minutes restriction.
This is actually a properly nuanced take. Skill is a huge continuum. Raw isn’t a guy dominating on both ends. Wemby is unquestionably our best player on both ends of the ball at this point and that is not something you saw about a “raw” player.
But he’s not reflecting a mirror sheen yet, either.
he hasn’t found a way to counter physical defense and double teams yet
honestly, i’m not sure there is a way… other than him becoming a foul merchant to make the defense ease up on him.
Carter Bryant isn’t a 7’4 basketball demigod with goat expectations though.
Thunder fans
Dude we are all acutely aware of how good he is and how much potential he has
Yeah, I am starting to hate Spurs fans already. They got a greta player and a really good team and they still feel the need to play victim. What the hell.
Tbf, it was a Warriors fan that started this subject. Idk why some people are upvoting*/adding to the comment and acting like people called Wemby a bum.
https://reddit.com/r/nba/comments/1qdi49i/alex_caruso_on_defending_wemby_offensively_hes/
Tbh I’d agree that he’s raw on offense though, he’s still figuring out his “go to” moves, but not many 22 year olds (especially bigs) have those anyway. It’s a testament to how dominant he is that he’s a top-5 player in the league and a potent offensive player despite that
I just think there’s a difference between completely unrefined (raw) and needs refinement (what Wemby is).
He’s not really mid, but it is definitely the more unrefined one when it comes to his offense vs. his defense.
he’s raw not mid offensively. and people are taking his numbers outta context (even if they’re still good).
he just doesn’t play 30+ minutes a night
People who call him bad or mid offensively don’t really watch his game. He has several counters for almost everything. People only say that cuz he’s young and isn’t Giannisnlevel offensively
He said he’s raw… which he is. Wemby is not at his peak he’s 22. He has a lot to add to his bag. That’s the scary thing about him
Literally no person with eyes is actually saying that and you know it too but you’re just writing this in bad faith let it go
People also said to me that nobody said sga was bad defensively and I got proven right about that also. Go look at thread from last game thread
Mid compared to what he’s gonna be…
Thats better
Raw != Mid. He’s definitely still raw tho leagues got like 3 years before it’s completely joever for everyone else
This is a very modest statline for him even in limited minutes. It’s the 5⁄6 3P that’s crazy.
Im pretty sure hes never missed a 3 after a block im dead serious too
The block boost his stats by 300%.
He specced into it. Block procs 100% 3 for 8 seconds after.
sounds like a buff in a basketball themed MMORPG lol “you want to run the lakers dungeon today?”
That’s why Spurs fans were mad at Fox for taking the shot after Wemby’s huge block on Jimmy
Being bald is a buff
He had to up his aerodynamics
Brock Lee loses the weights, wemby loses the hair. Coincidence? League fucked.
Even on minutes restriction Wemby is still balling out
He’s not even on a min restriction anymore, the whole 4th quarter was just garbage time lol
people on this sub just don’t watch the games they comment on
I think this specific guy is a clear bot, in every thread commenting the popular takes, never replies or anything
I mean, kinda… He still hasn’t played over 28 since the injury. I think he’s basically 100% from that and still getting his cardio back up, but keeping him under 30 for whatever reason still feels like a restriction
The championship 2014 Spurs won 62 regular season games with exactly zero players averaging more than 30mpg. If any team is going to be patient with keeping their star under 30 minutes, it’s the Spurs.
I think this is the way it should be to prolong his career and keep him fresh for possible numerous post season run.
second best bald player after jay huff
Shaolin healing powers
He’s just not impactful on the offensive end!
Why are you acting like people said this as an absolute statement? Nobody real believes that.
Even when Caruso called him raw the benchmark for him was players like Jokic, KD and Gainnis, ya know, only the best offensive big men in the league.
Somehow people have managed to twist that narrative into saying Wemby’s offense is rated poorly.
yeah this is not a popular take at all
I’m just so happy we didn’t brick every single wide open threes this game. The last 5-6 games have been painful with the missed shots.
How many more games can he miss and still be eligible for awards?
I believe 4
EDIT: 3, never mind, he’s missed 14 games so far It was 4, I forgot about the cup final
4 because somehow the Nba cup finals counts as games played but not the stats 🤣
Ah shoot, I forgot about that. Let me fix that rq
For the NBA it really is about getting stars to play
5-6 from 3 is some spooky shit if that becomes a regular thing
Make your way to San Antonio Giannis. For a package like Fox.
I mean maybe for fox?
His night has been done for a while now, it was a blowout. Was OP waiting for the game to be over? lol
Bro came back like Aang
Do we get a post about Wemby not playing the fourth quarter? Or is it only impressive when one player does it on his really good team?
Watching Giannis on the Bucks is like watching Absolute Batman stay in Gotham
How is he doing? I saw him go down pretty early with another knee incident.
22 in 22 Minutes and 2 Blocks, 5⁄6 3pm.
He came back and was fine.
He doesn’t have a history of knee problems and he is very flexible. I’ve seen him turn his ankles but still played the rest of the game. Hyperextended his knee but played the very next game.
don’t compare giannis to him ever again
He got locked up by Giannis today lol
Lol
giannis was grabbing him off the ball on every play lol if he wanted his jersey that badly he should’ve just asked
Giannis want a spurs jersey really bad!
Knee locked
Giannis just thought Wemby wanted hugs
