I think KD is the only guy on that list definitely better than SGA, maybe Steph. Jokic’s a good scorer but his preferred element is as a facilitator. KD’s an absolute scoring monster though, idk how anyone could have SGA over him.

I would pick KD over Shai right now but if Shai sustains his current output for 5 more seasons and makes a few more title runs then I think you can start comparing them too.
If KD was on this OKC team, they would not be where they are now, that’s all I’m going to say as someone who watched OKC since 2012.
SGA is more polished mid-range scorer and finisher than KD was at this point in KD’s career. KD’s always been a great mid-range shooter, but he only really became a god from there in Brooklyn.
At that point in KD’s career he had 4 scoring titles. Yes that is influenced by the performance of other players, but it’s a pretty hard sell to call somebody a better scorer when you’re comparing to those kind of accolades.
They have similar ppg during that 8 year window despite league wide ppg being up 14ppg since the 2015-16 season (the end of the 8 year window for KD). There really is no statistical argument for SGA being a better scorer than KD in the first 8 years of their career. You can invoke the eye test and it’s not something I can refute, but by the numbers KD is a step above SGA.
Scoring titles don’t decide how good of a scorer a player is. They contribute to a legacy of being a great scorer, but you have to be that good of a scorer first, not the other way around. Luka is most likely to earn the scoring title this season, because it’s not an actual award, but no one in their right mind will tell you Luka is a better scorer than Shai this season.
And what I will always say when people bring up “inflated stats,” role players today are able to do so much more and carry more weight for their teams than they did in the past. By the logic of “stat inflation,” no player will ever be able to be a better scorer or even equal to players of the past unless they average like 40. Also to add, KD got his highest ppg average of his career when it was solely him who could be relied on for scoring. Shai shares points with much better scorers, even relative to the league, than KD did in 2013-14. I love KD, but using relative stats and labels like scoring champ will almost always favor players prior to this era of talent influx and efficiency. KD is, I think, inarguably a greater scorer—7th all time in points and 4 scoring titles as opposed to 1—than Shai, but prime KD is not clearly better as a scorer. If you think there’s a small gap between them, I understand that and might even agree, but Shai can hold his own with anybody in a conversation about scoring ability.

This is just not true though. His best seasons overlapped with Westbrook putting up 20+ ppg every single season except 2010. SGA has yet to have another teammate end a season with 20+ ppg since becoming the #1 option, although Jdub is on pace this year (edit: I was wrong, Jdub did 21.6 last year, I forgot we’re in 2026). Even if you go down to 3rd option you have at least 1 guy scoring 15+ ppg for the Thunder in each of those years, just as you have for the Thunder in the last 5.
You can argue that there was a fall off once you get past the 3rd option, but it’s nowhere near as dramatic as you characterize it as, and Westbrook resoundingly outscored anybody from the Thunder as a #2 option in the last 5 years.
I agree that volume can eclipse efficiency in terms of winning a scoring title, but KD and SGA have been comparably efficient. KD from 2010 to 2015 averaged 49.2%(38.5 from 3) to Shai’s 49.9(35.6) from 2020 to 2025. Luka’s down at 46.8 and 33.4 from 3 this year, a clear step down in efficiency. Luka’s covering for inefficiency with volume, while I think thar argument is substantially weaker for comparing KD to SGA since they’re significantly closer.
