The worst was that one season where they were exceeding expectations and were in a playoff spot. Lauri was absolutely balling out. Then they just pulled the plug and quit on the season. Also, they rested young guys like Walker Kessler for like 3 years even when he is healthy. How is that good for development? I actively root for them to fail.

The Cavs obviously did not get the memo about this egregious tanking earlier this week.

It’s how things are structured right now, I don’t hold it against them. They got hosed in the lottery and that basically just torpedoed their next season before it started. Small markets have a hard enough time getting FAs even when they’re not frickin Utah, they don’t have the option to try to build through anything but the draft and the way to build through the draft is tanking.

A ‘generational’-tier consensus first pick draft prospect went to a team one game away from a playoff appearance. The system is busted, I’m not going to begrudge Utah doing what they’ve got to do.

Kessler is out for the season, Keyonte missed one game, Lauri has only missed 7.

Jazz aren’t even at the “blatantly tanking” part of the season yet why is this up voted

Your trippin Markennen and Keyonte are averaging 35 mpg this season, not saying their not tanking but this is a little dramatic

The Jazz have two players who are positive in impact stats (excluding Kessler) George barely so due to his awful defense and they’ve played 33 and 39 of 40 games. Not seeing where this is some major issue the team just sucks

I don’t think they’re tanking anymore intentionally than other teams. In the last month alone they have beat the Pistons, Spurs, Cavs, and taken OKC to overtime.

Markkanen and keyonte are both in top 15 minutes this season. Nurkic rest more than others players cause he is 31 and the heaviest player in the league.

The craziest part of this to me is that it feels like Lauri is resting less than he was last year. Is everyone also triggered that Nurkic and Kevin Love aren’t gonna play 82 games? Because as far as tanking and us losing goes, anyone who’s watching our games knows that it’s that complete lack of paint protection without Kessler that’s actually causing us to lose. A good chunk of our losses have been competitive too. It’s also the Wild West like who exactly in the conference should we be ahead of in record who we aren’t already?

OKC won a title doing it harder than anyone. League didn’t do anything about, fans don’t seem to care, and even their players reference it positively every now and then now. Why would any team feel discouraged by it after seeing that? The only downside is that most teams do it poorly.

I think that if the Jazz haven’t been hosed on the last 3 lotteries, this season would be different. We’ve never improved our draft pick through the lottery, ever. Our picks either stay exactly where they are, or drop. Plus, with Kessler getting injured very early in the season, it just made sense to tank again, especially with the possibility of our draft pick headed to OKC.

Not to mention there are currently 6 teams with either the same, or a worse record than us, and we are .5 games behind the Mavericks.

I think that our tanking hasn’t been egregious. We’ve been playing vets, and young guys. Keyonte George alone has won us like 6 games this season lol

Jazz had one of the best fan bases in the league and were a consistent winner for much of the last 40 years. And then they patented the “half-tank” where you dump your best players and just kind of tread water for years at a time.

I can’t speak for them all, but there’s a chance Lauri isn’t built to play a full season. Not counting this year, he’s averaged 56 games played per season. Granted, some of those years weren’t full 82 game seasons, but he couldn’t play full years pre-Utah, either. And his shoulder thing was bad enough to keep him out of national team play in the summer. So it’s not just the Jazz who are holding him out

It works out in favor of everyone. They have very few national games so it allows every other team to get these scheduled rest days without messing up the national tv ratings and destroying the product. Then you get the other team’s guys who are rested for the real games. They also will show up with Markennen generally for the national games and that’s the only guy there that matters.

This has been happening for two decades and the League as a whole has done nothing to stop it.

it came out in the Gambling probe on Chauncey Billups that Chauncey was receiving directives from management to lose games through sitting the best players. In fact Chauncey was so sure they would lose he passed info to betting partners to place bets on these games.

Just accept the league for what it is multiple teams try to lose every year for long long stretches.

I’ve been an advocate of the Jordan rule for winning. Teams need to win at least 23 games to qualify for a top 3 pick. A lot of people will say that this will keep the bottom teams on the bottom but I disagree. But I have NEVER seen a team make an honest effort to win and still fail to reach 23 wins (other than the hornets)

I’d rather have the blatant tanking than having teams over 30 wins get a top 3 pick.
