Quietly? Westbrook doesn’t know the meaning of quietly. 

Always a bit hard to rate anybody who’s on a really shitty team like the Kings. I think calling him just outside the crop of all-star PGs is a bit too much, he’s well below players like Maxey, Murray, Fox, even Lamelo and Keyonte. He’s playing at a respectable high-level roleplayer tier IMO, from watching him play he feels like the same Russ from years past but… just worse. Still could start on many teams but that’s it.

he’s just getting more usage compared to previous seasons. this is the most shot attempts he’s gotten per game since when he was with the lakers. he’s still horribly inefficient but is still playing with the same hustle as always. i don’t think he’s having a good season but rather just a season you would expect from westbrook at this point in his career. he’s not even close to being bad enough to the point that no one would give him a contract before the start of the season.

I remember when this sub says he only played decent with Denver because of Jokic. Now he’s putting even better statline last season.

I feel like a lot of it is just usage on a bad team. Not saying he’s playing bad at all but he’s just able to play a big role with whatever mess sacramento has going on and whenever he’s got a big role he’s gonna put up great numbers because he’s a dawg

He’s always been a huge environment player. When he’s in a positive space it impacts his consistency and effort more than anything. 

Performing at the expected level. His slow decline over these few years is pretty linear, from above average starter to average starter to below average starter currently. Relative to his contract, he’s really good.

I haven’t watched almost any Kings this year. But I’m never going to be convinced by a Russ post that just has counting stats. Of course he’s going to look good on those metrics. We really need TS% at a minimum (his is the 7th worst). And I trust the advanced stats a bit more for Russ. He can invigorate a team with some dog. But also inexplicably blow entire games.

What is any of it worth, if hes doing it 10% less efficiently than a good point guard?

No one has ever questioned his ability to put up good numbers while losing games.

Like usual it is his efficiency that does him in. Sure 6.9 assists is great, but it is not so great when you need to “pay” 3.4 turnovers for those assists. 14.7 points in 30 mins is not bad by any means but again not nearly as good when he takes damn near 14 possessions to score those 14 points.

Getting any production from min guys is hard - so I wouldnt nearly call Russ a bad contract at veteran min but there is a reason why damn near every team he was on looked to move on from him asap even tho his statline didnt look bad at most of those places (barring lakers which was unmitigated disaster). That reason is efficiency and the fact that when you live by Russ you also die by Russ - any good team does not want to flip a coin will their veteran min guy just wake up and decide he is superstar that day and potentially lose them the game.

For a team with no ambition whatsoever I guess he is a nice contract.

52% TS, terrible defense, 3.4 TOs per game for not quite 7 APG. Not horrible but not sure i’d call it good.

definitely would not say hes having a good season. Hes definitely bad, but I will admit hes less bad than I thought. I think his play is not nearly good enough to earn him a contract after this season, this one is surely his last
