[Highlight] Scottie Barnes with the long step through to get right to the rim for a layup
There are lots of travels in the NBA and basketball in general, but this isn’t one of them. He establishes his left as his pivot foot. As long as he doesn’t put it down again after he lifts it, he can do whatever he wants. I see it all the time where people say stuff like this is a travel. It looks a little weird, but it isn’t even close to the gather or 0-step situations that can sometimes go either way.
This a regular drop step. No way whatsoever this is a travel. I completely agree with u, just stating in case people don’t agree.
The problem with the gather “step” is it’s turned into gather steps.
The only weird thing about this particular highlight is the massive extension on the left-handed scoop. It’s regular post footwork quite far from the post.
Sigh this is exactly the gather step because you destroyed the point of a pivot foot. Pivot foot means the player has established that foot is the stationary foot for you to pivot; the second you lift said pivot foot - which is what NBA players have done since the clarifying gather step bullshit - it’s no longer the designated pivot foot and you’re gaining an extra step to push off from your “new” pivot foot. But because he’s shooting the basketball this could be interpreted as a gather step leading into his shot. Which is fucking infuriating to older players before they clarified the dumb ass gather step rule.
The old rule was that if he lifted his pivot foot and free foot SIMULTANEOUSLY it’s not a travel. But gather step bullshit
That was nicee
Learned the spin cycle from the best
You can just do that?
Why wouldn’t you
