Stadium culture in France is very different, I’ve been ball boy few times when I was younger for football matches with attempt from few thousands to 45000 and i was hearing no stop insults, from the audience but also from the players. Never been close to the playground in basketball match but heard a lot of insults too, same for rugby. The atmosphere in the USA is really relaxed and family-oriented, it can’t mess with victor.
NBA has priced out the fanatic crowd even if they wanted to cultivate that environment. You barely even see home team player jerseys in the lower bowls unless it’s kids wearing them; it’s mostly polos and dress shirts.
Ngl as someone from the Netherlands and growing up with football/soccer I heavily prefer the American atmosphere at the games I’ve been to lol.
i see how one could. it’s much more “sterile” and reserved in ways. there’s way less danger involved, too. of all the places where random attacks happen…its pretty rare at sporting events. crowd crush never happens, or groups of fans fighting because one team won when the other loss.

You don’t understand European crowds then. They segregate fans. You don’t interact with opposing fans at all, with police or infrastructure separating them at all times.
If you end up getting into an argument with a fan of your own team then one of the 2 of you must be an absolute prat.
Edit: soccer specific, rugby they don’t bother segregate, there’s decent atmospheres but it’s a “gentleman’s” sport at the end of the day.

I went to a Real Madrid game 10 years ago (Portuguese Ronaldo era). It was just a regular, run of the mill league game against a mid table opponent (I think Athletic Bilbao). The home fans were whistling nonstop every time the away goalkeeper even touches the ball and of course “puta” from everyone around me lol. And there were 50k+ in the Bernabeu that day, and it was pouring rain. Never been to an atmosphere like it.
