I would be really surprised if they did this, mostly because Hardaway and Brown are on league minimums, and they most likely wouldn’t be coming back at that rate.

So if we want any kind of TPE or MLTPE contract to keep Brown and THJ they’ll have to dump Johnson before the end of the season. It’ll be interesting to see what happens. My preference of outcomes is as follows:

Trade Johnson for an expiring, match whatever offer Watson gets in RFA
Keep Johnson, match whatever offer Watson gets in RFA, eat the second apron tax.

It’s just a question of consistency tbh. If he can keep up this level of play it’s hard to imagine the front office not moving heaven and earth to keep him. They have to think Watson may not have even reached his potential yet, which increases his value even further.

They can either go into the second apron(unlikely given the Kroneke’s tendencies), trade him for value at the deadline(also unlikely given how badly the team needs him right now), or start preparing to offload certain contracts.

We’ll have to dip in the second apron for a year and essentially run it back. A year after Cam and Val are expiring so that’s 33 million of the books to dip back under the line. If owners are cheap, we’ll have do it in the following offseason and get some assets for Cam at least. It would be a shame, having this strength and depth for 2 years would be amazing. The team would still be strong and fairly deep though. If Watson keeps developing, it changes our trajectory and suddenly we have a triple threat from the guard, wing and center position who can all create their own shot. And we still have AG too. I don’t really disagree. I would hate it, he’s one of my favorite all time Nuggets. He’s the heart and soul of the team. But I can at least see the argument from a pragmatic standpoint. You have PWat turning 24 next season and he can play as a combo ³⁄₄. He’s only been getting better. The Warriors situation is a pretty interesting case study - like if you could see the future, you’d probably sell high on Dray and Klay after the ‘22 chip for younger up and coming players who would be peaking right now whilst Curry is still shockingly great four years later at age 37.

And you’d also likely trade away all the young players and their potential - which I’m not saying they haven’t broadly lived up relative to draft position (obviously barring the Wiseman disaster), but none of them have broken out as any level of star - for solid contributing role players too.

And if you could see the future and had done that, the Warriors would be pretty strong contenders right now, right?

But no-one really seemed to expect Curry to still be this good. Like the general consensus seemed to be that his game would age pretty well (for obvious reasons), but this entire season everyone’s been talking about how incredible it is that he’s still playing at this level at his age.

I suppose it comes back to the two timelines thing and how insanely difficult it is to thread a needle like that. You’ve either got to pick the exact right moment to move on from your aging players as they stop being great, or you’ve got to really hit your draft picks, or ideally both.

Like in a sense the Warriors already took a chance on aging players keeping the trio together for the ‘22 run and it paid off. Maybe 9 times out of 10 it’s better to trade mid-level star guys like Dray and Klay the second they get into their declining years, sell high to a team who thinks they can get a few more years out of them, and retool around a superstar whose so good to start with that they’re still very effective even as they age, but the 1 time in 10 (or whatever) that you get something like the last championship out of them must look so seductive to Front Offices.

Or you don’t get the assets to retool in return) when they age out of their production being worth their salary.

Like with regards to the Nuggets and this thread overall, there’s a scenario where the Nuggets trade AG this offseason for a decent haul, his hamstrings disintegrate and they look like geniuses. Or there’s one where he has several really good seasons left and helps the team contend through a good portion of Jokic’s remaining superstardom. I wouldn’t want to be the one having to make a judgement call on when to pull the trigger and when to ride it out.

Kroenkes haven’t done a great job delivering the product to fans, but it could be a LOT worse.

We have two city championships in the last 5 years with the Nuggets and the Avs, both owned by Kroenke. They have spent the money where needed, and mostly just stay out of the way of Sakic/CMac/Bednar and John Wallace and now Adelman. Clearly stepping in last season was the right choice too.

It was also the “best” month for Jokic to get injured schedule wise. But everyone knew they got better this season. But they got way better. From barely a 5 man rotation to at least top 5 depth in the league.

I had OKC as the favorites coming into the season due to the obvious depth dominance but Nuggets are my favorites to win the title now. I’d even say they are heavy favorites.

calm down. it’s very important to note (and a lot of people have been really quiet on this) the last 9 straight games we haven’t had Hartenstein - the glue guy of all glue guys. He anchors the paint w chet, is our best rebounder, and helps the offense flow way better. He’s a huge reason we’ve been losing. Also, the nuggets are really good. and i’m very scared of them. still, i have us as the favourites until i can see this production from the nuggets WITH jokic in game. then i’ll be worried for real

Where u been? All the guys you are seeing play good now have been playing good all season. Nuggets just always had multiple guys injured. But stayed dominant cause Jokic is a god + when he got injured. Everyone else came back from injuries.

Nuggets at some point were basically at full health and it looked marvelous. If i remember correctly.. Nuggets were on a similar track as OKC to start the season. Right on their heels. Couldnt lose. Then AG and CB got injured and we started seeing a rare loss here and there.

His chances were killed no matter how Denver played during this span. No matter how good Jokic’s numbers are, him missing 15 games sets him back quite a bit compared to SGA.

We’re talking about two players who were viewed as neck and neck on most MVP lists before the injury so a full month without playing is basically an insurmountable deficit.
