I think there’s value to building your team around the players you see as part of your long term. Yeah, bring in vets, I’m not saying tank, but start developing your identity.

Use the cap space you wouldn’t have used on AD to try out a few guys who could be part of your long-term vision. Maybe you rent out space for a pick.

A team with AD is always going to be structured, at least partially, around AD. He’s too good when he’s out there. But if that’s not your long-term plan, then you don’t want to be making choices about whether or not they fit with AD.

Furthermore, I don’t think you want guys who don’t want to be there. Culturally that can be a mess.
