he boxes out tho which is y the team rebounding isnt horrendous but theres so many moments where he could pretty easily get a rebound and he kind of just watches it (while boxing out). it might be a coaching thing to avoid him getting cheap fouls but idk feels like u gotta be able to learn how to rebound without fouling by year 7

the boxing out sometimes is weirdly low IQ too, like a play against the knicks he runs to box out brunson…who is out of bounds and under the basket completely out of the play and left the memphis guards to try to battle for a rebound with mitchell robinson

Isn’t it partially that he switches a lot to the perimeter and challenges a lot of shots? It’s hard to get rebounds in those scenarios, particularly when you are getting a lot of fouls each game, which can nerf one’s aggressiveness.

It’s a stupid thing to say and unprofessional. He is still trying to influence the decisions and serve his client by pushing for LeBron’s timeline moves. If he was so interested in LeBron’s success, he should have pushed his client to opt-out and sign a bit more reasonable deal (around $ 30M) rather than opting in to a max contract for this year as a 40-year-old player. If that was the case, their push towards the “instant success” narrative would seem genuine.

The problem is that any team considering trading for Reeves has to value him considering the risk of him leaving as a FA after the season, or the risk that you have to overpay him to convince him to stay.

Can they get AD for him?

His trade value is low right now. It’s pointless to even consider any trade with him and that small contract. You want him to sign a 35+m contract, and then you can still trade him for a more impactful player if necessary.

He’s gonna get seriously exposed in the playoffs this year just like he did last year, he had every opportunity to kill the Wolves but instead all of his foul calls dried up and he got bounced around by basically every player we had

Reaves is a great contract for a 1 year rental, but what contender has future assets to trade for that to win this year, and do the Lakers want those future assets instead of winning now? (As a side note, with the soft cap in the NBA rentals are less valuable than MLB where it’s common, because contenders want to be able to keep the team together as much as they can if they’re over the cap, and most contenders are).

The other scenario is teams looking for him long term. The value will be tempered by the risk of him walking, and the fact that he’s going to command a market rate extension if you keep him.

Lastly, Reaves’ great contract works against the Lakers slightly because they can only take back matching salary. $14M isn’t a lot of great player coming back. At the point where the Lakers are also shipping out Rui, Vando, or Gabe to match salaries, this is muting the value proposition for the other side. Also may adversely affect their chances this year since they’re thin on depth already, even if they get one good player back.

The NBA is a fairly toothless organization though so even if it is against the rules they just don’t care to go after people in powerful position in the league.
