Honestly insane how consistent his efficiency is with this style of scoring. His TS% since 2019 - .603/.591/.590/.592/.584/.569/.604. I guess being so low volume on 3s & no injury-plagued seasons really reduces the variance there
It was a huge knock on him in Toronto (53.6%) but our offense under Casey was basically iso after iso. Playing for Pop levelled him up.
I remember Dwane Casey was asked after a loss why DeRozan kept shooting even though he wasn’t having a good night, and Casey responded by saying that if he stopped shooting then he would bench him, because it meant that DeRozan lost confidence in himself. I didn’t like that at all. There are other ways to get this message across without instilling poor long term toxic habits.
Pop taught Ginobili to find other ways to make an impact if he couldn’t get going. I’m pretty sure he taught DeMar the same thing. In another life I imagine DeRozan was drafted by the Spurs and became Ginobili lite.
He’s probably in the conversation for best midrange scorer of all-time at this point, and he’s a stellar FT shooter that still gets to the line really well. Basically guarantees a great TS%.
He is not in the conversation simply because the conversation starts with Bird, Jordan, Kobe and KD. That’s a tall order and great as he is, he is not at their level.

Agreed, as well as few other guys like CP3, Kawhi, and Rip Hamilton. Rip gets completely forgotten because he was the least charismatic player on those Pistons teams, but in their championship years he was basically Klay Thompson except 3 feet inside the line.

Demar is absolutely in the conversation. For someone with his volume, considering the era, he’s ridiculously efficient.

Luka does the bare minimum to qualify as a contest lately. Try to get within a few feet of the guy with a hand up so the coach doesn’t bring it up in film review.
Compare that to actual defenders who try to contest the shot, like Lebron in this vid. It takes a lot of effort and attention to guard a midrange maestro, and Luka just isn’t interested in all that extra work.

That’s basically what every offense does… hunt the offensive load player to attempt to gas them out - regardless if they are a decent defender or not. SGA is just as hunted as Luka.

He turns it off just as easily as he turns it on. I’ve seen him torch the Wolves one game, and have forgotten he was even on the court in other games we’ve played him. I’d prefer he just stays in Sacramento, and he occasionally beats/surprises other good West teams.
Derozan currently averages 19 a game on 60% TS. That’d make him the 2nd best scorer on the Timberwolves when accounting for volume and efficiency. Uncs like him can’t be 100% in every game, but his averages show that taken as a whole, he’s still an elite scorer who can elevate a competitive team to the next level.
I’ll let you have him for Donte and Conley but we’ll have to flip Donte to a 3rd team because he’s already played for us before so we gotta let another team give him a go!
People love to put Derozan’s scoring in a vaccuum as if you could just plug him into the Timberwolves team and it wouldn’t have an effect on anything. The kings play Derozan, one of the worst perimeter defenders in the entire history of the nba who is even slower now, 35+ minutes a game to achieve this production.
The offense also has to stop everything and watch him iso 15-20 times in order for him to achieve this production. He doesn’t shoot 3s which results in the kings being actually dead last in the league in opponents 3 pointers while also being top 5 in 2 pointers made. Quite possibly the worst possible plan to use in the modern nba: the only way you win is if the other team misses all of their 3s. With lavine and derozan as your primary defenders those 3s are usually WIDE OPEN. It is absolutely braindead.
I dealt with people throwing TS% at me for years as if basketball exists within a vaccum. Playing someone who is absolute trash at everything outside of 2 point scoring for 35-40 minutes is throwing. Just wait until you actually see how that scoring translates to the playoffs.

My guy the entire point of TS% is to normalize shooting stats, i.e. measure the player’s overall efficiency INCLUDING 3s and free throws. It doesn’t matter if Demar isn’t getting his points via 3s when he is so efficient from 2 and the FT line.
The reason his game suffers in the playoffs is that defenses are allowed to be more physical and so he can’t get as clean a look. That is a legit knock on his game, I will agree. But regular season, the guy’s scoring is an asset.

Their net rating together is pretty bad compared to their other line-ups, and the main reason is their 113.1 offensive rating when on the court together. It just doesn’t work, it’s awkward basketball. Pay attention specifically to those two players next game, comparing when their both together versus when one is on the bench and the other is playing.
Jimmy is at his best when Draymond is off the floor. But I don’t think that means it doesn’t work. Draymond is a great facilitator for Steph, and Jimmy is a great facilitator for everyone else. I still think they work fine together.

So why are we working so hard to make the Warriors better with this offer when we can just trade DeMar to the Clippers or somebody else and not need to make salaries match by taking on a player we don’t want. Also why wouldn’t the Warriors just want Keegan for themselves? They’d seriously rather have RJ over Keegan?

He’s genuinely not that athletic. At his athletic peak he could jump well, but he could not move laterally well at all, is not very fast, and obviously also has bad instincts.
When you look at his actual offensive game, there’s no athleticism needed which is why it has aged so incredibly well. He works slowly, methodically, it’s all Kobesque footwork to get to his preferred spots and either bait a defender with his pumpfake (one of the best pumpfakes of all time), or have the space to make that midrange shot.
He really worked at it too, every single year as a Raptor he added more moves and countermoves. You’ve really gotta credit him on that end, while criticizing his inability on the other. But he’s not particularly athletic. If he was, honestly, he’d get away more with his lousy instincts there.

Bucks can do the trade. Kuzma for Derozan straight up works. However, the Bucks are interested in Zach Lavine, so all the Etsy witches in Sacramento need to work overtime to make that happen. And if it does, then they can’t go for Derozan too.

I know he will never be loved in this era because he is inefficient and a bad defender… but there are some things about his game where you can definitely see that he studied Kobe’s game and did a pretty good job emulating it (at least inside the 3 point arc). He is a mid-range expert. May not take you to the championship, but a pretty high level player nonetheless.
