Pacers’ record in clutch time games this year is now 5-13, or 27th in the NBA. Sadly Siakam & crew are not reliable closers.

The Pacers were a top-4 team in clutch time games last season, but Tyrese is our one reliable closer. He hits big shots in the clutch, but he’ll also defer in the clutch if its the right play. Ultimately, it yields a lot of wins.

Ty should’ve won CPOY last year - or at least been in the discussion - but nobody noticed how great Tyrese was in the clutch last season until the playoffs. Not a lot of national TV exposure & Ty had a slow start to the season.

Not trying to put Pascal down, but rather point out that the Pacers have generally been unable to close games without Tyrese.

Since 2022-2023, the Pacers’ record in clutch time games with Tyrese is 53-42. Without Tyrese, it’s 18-27. Even more stark this year vs last year: from 4th best in clutch time last year to 3rd worst in clutch time this year. If Siakam could reliably close games, the Pacers would be vying for a play-in spot rather than at the bottom of the East.

It’s not even like injuries have made the Pacers into some terrible team that can’t keep up with others. They’ve played 18 games that have come down to clutch time. But they’ve won incredibly few of them because the only reliable closer on the team is Ty.

Siakam is a major stabilizing force as far as scoring, rebounding, and defense are concerned. Best player who will play this season, and 2nd best on the team’s books. The Pacers are not a Finals team without him. He’s just not a closer, just like Tyrese isn’t a rebounder or lockdown defender.

Its incredible how different he plays when he’s the number 1 option like hes always second guessing himself in every decision I really think is mental because he plays so different (and worse) when the Jays are not playing or maybe because when hes #1 option teams prepare more for him? If there is a single coach in the NBA who is known for throwing rotations at the wall until something sticks, it’s Rick Carlisle. You’re talking about a guy who was playing his entire roster during a Finals run. If we were actually tanking, Siakam wouldn’t be leading the team in minutes nor finishing games.

Also Rick’s system has never adjusted well to injuries. The team struggles for a few games after key rotation players miss games due to injury, then the team struggles for a few games after key rotation players come back from injury. Every team sees a bit of this, but Rick’s Pacers have been particularly bad in this regard for years.

What a great game. 2027 ECF preview.

Impressed that Boston has been able to integrate so many actions into their offense other than ISO-ball & 3s. Lots of screens, picks, and other secondary actions that were just absent from Boston’s offense against the Knicks last year. If the Celtics can play like this with Tatum & JB, they’ll be tough for anybody to stop.

Pacers gonna be next year insane w/ Tyrese back, a lottery pick, and whatever consolidation trade they end up making. And if the team can figure out how to consistently close clutch time games this season without Tyrese, they’ll be so much harder to stop next season with him back.
